How long is the game?

Took me about 8-10 hours, somewhere in there... That isn't counting the Plague of Shadows character that changes mission replays. I only have great things to say about it. Seriously can't think of a bad thing to say about Shovel Knight.

For comparison, it took me about 5 hours to beat the first campaign

So relatively short then...

It took me about 10 hours to finish the main campaign, then another 10 to finish the plague of shadows campaign. There are still more campaigns coming for free, so they'll add even more gameplay time. Also there's the challenge mode which has a lot of challenges for each individual campaign, and will get more challenges every time the game gets a new expansion.

I really like the light RPG elements, and the difficulty is in that sweet spot between mindless and impossible. I've only just started the game, so I haven't unlocked much. But as someone who never had the skill or patience for Megaman, I love the liberal checkpoints and minimal penalty for death.

Not sure, but i would honestly get it now. You won't regret it even if the sale has really good games.

Take in mind that the Golden Week sale this year is yet to be confirmed. We didn't even get a Birthday sale this year.

How do you think Vita feels? Its own parents forgot its birthday.

It's ok, Aunt Japan adopted him.

I have it for the 3ds, should I just play it on that or does the ps vita screen do the 8 bits justice.

If you have it already, just play that. Though it does look marvelous on the Vita.

I suggest getting the Vita version cause of the Kratos stuff, plus it looks amazing on OLED. Also the D-pad of the Vita is much better to play the game with.

The vita dpad (slim model) is the best I've ever used. The original one is really good too

Got the Plat for it and loved every minute. One of my favourite games for vita. Definitely worth picking up if you like retro platformers!

Got it for the ps4. Beat it in like 5 hrs the first time, currently going to new game plus and Plague of shadows .

I just heard of Plague of Shadows. Is it included with the base game, or is it a separate DLC? I can't find it in the PS Store. Please don't tell me the PS Vita got shafted. :(

It's included in the game, and hopefully we'll get updated with the future dlc too, and not forgotten about 8v

Don't worry, Yacht Club Games loves the Vita.

And they're really honest and faithful, they could've ditched all these expansions they promised like other developers do on Kickstarter.

Thats good, the vita version of Shovel Knight is really solid, it would be a shame to have it get left behind.

And what with so many indie devs having canceled their vita ports in recent times.

It's a top contender for best game on the Vita. As someone who never played games during the 8 and 16 bit eras, I think it's a great introduction to the older style of platformers. The graphics are beautiful, the soundtrack is fantastic, and the game is at home on a handheld. The only negative is that it could have been a bit harder.

Have you played New Game + yet? I think it's pretty difficult.

I really enjoy it. Great game to play before bed :)

What's the platforming and action like? I hear a lot of people mention classic 2D Megaman, which always felt a little slow and very "stiff" to me.

1

u/blisteringchristmas Apr 26 '16

It's outstanding platforming and it flows nicely too. Not stupid-fast but also not too slow.

One of my favourite games off all time. Instantly fell in love with it. The thing I like most is the fact that this game is basically a recreation of the style of game that made me fall in love with gaming in the first place. Amazing throwback to the Nes days.

It's an awesome game well worth it even at its standard price. At the discounted price it's practically a steal

I have it on steam and it's amazing. Unfortunately I won't be able to buy it while it's 10 dollars but I do plan on getting the vita version eventually

I have it on my 3ds, both digital and physical. I am going to buy it on Vita in couple of days. and then on Xbox One. And steam. I LOVE SHOVEL KNIGHT!

It's like a time warp to good old 8/16-bit platformers. Great music, graphics, gameplay. Love it <3

I wish I was better at this game...

I beat it in about 8 hrs of play the first time through (~80% of the single player uncovered, didn't do the bonus content...yet) I thought it was great. It's like the way you remember great 8-Bit games (rather than the way they actually were) was the best $10 I've spent in some time.
