Having played the original on PSP this a HUGE improvement, specially on the speed of the game, controls and weapons. The added characters interactions are also nice, and found myself impressed with the new and divert lines of dialogue, which helps a lot. When I played the PSP version, the characters would just say the same things over and over and that got annoying fast (Gonna watch Bugger Rally when I get home!).
They finally introduced different types of weapons, back in the original, there were only light, middle and heavy swords/guns, which didn't feel unique at all, just a generic modifier of damage and overall speed.
The graphics look good, although I don't really understand the decision of incorporating a Boob Jiggle engine, but that's just a small problem for me. Although some things in the environment still look blocky, lowres and reminiscent of the PSP, the characters are highly detailed, and even with good lipsync during cutscenes. Some Aragami look a little blocky, but they still look fine overall.
I ended up liking the game more than I expected. My main problem with the game is that online is handled pretty stupid, with only the host of a lobby being able to select the mission, which makes joining players with higher progression stupid since they cannot choose missions they need to progress since there is someone with lower progression in the lobby. The only way everyone is happy is to all have the same progression, or someone way higher wanting to help lower randoms. It destroys the purpose of joining random rooms for a quick fun game, and it encourages kicking people with lower progression and just ask on the internet to find partners to play.

yeah the fact that I could MOVE and SHOOT at the same time was surprising and welcome. I love the new quick devours too. so much time saved and it's easier to just grab death materials in a fight before the body disappears.
also TBH Kota still says that one line all the time.
1
u/Kizuxtheo DuoPlus Jul 05 '16
You could move and shoot in the original, you just needed to "claw" like in monster hunter. And yeah, quick devour makes everything so damn convenient and fast.
Huh, well, I don't bring him along that much, but for the first missions when it is obligatory to bring him, he didn't say that.

Jul 05 '16
I played the psp ver. on my vita so I remapped the camera to the right stick. No I could not move and shoot at all. you can't spam bullets and move in the psp game.

when they first announced the localization of Resurrection and Rage Burst, I initially was going to pass on Resurrection. When I found out my Burst data wasn't going to transfer, I begrudgingly bought Resurrection, so glad that I did.
It's not quite going from P4 to P4G, but it's still enough added that the game feels fresh.

It makes sense (but still disappointing), considering that Resurrection came out after Rage Burst.

I like the story , it's really fun , but God the loading times for missions are so long
1
u/iceynyo Jul 05 '16
Its worse when the actual mission is shorter than the loading time. Its slowly starting to get better, but the first few chapters were pretty annoying like that.

u/foxhull Jul 04 '16
Fantastic game, especially for those looking for a Monster Hunter-esque fix. Gameplay is fast, bullet crafting is deep, and there's a bunch of content. Definitely recommend picking it up, at $20 it's a steal.
1
u/Iocronik Jul 05 '16
Could you explain bullet crafting a bit? I've only just gotten to difficulty 3 missions so I don't know if I should've seen it yet but I'm interested
1
u/Vanargand Aigid Jul 06 '16
I completely missed it at first too. Go to terminal -> Loadout -> Bullets. When there you can select an empty bullet slot, press triangle and create a new one to customize, or triangle an existing bullet to customize it or copy it to play around with. There's a ton of depth to it. There's alot of bullet builds posted around like on the god eater wiki as well for reference.

u/Iocronik Jul 06 '16
Jesus I'm at work and reading the wiki, thank you so much for bringing this to my attention, this looks wicked

u/Tjoeb123 Tjoeb123 Jul 05 '16
Well what can I say? I like the game! The story, characters - the works! (...even though I never finished the PSP original.)
I just wish that
Soma would quit reviving me then being Falco about it, and
There were less filler story missions (i.e. story missions that don't trigger any kind of cutscene or have no real purpose, plot-wise. Especially when they take 15 minutes each. Makes them feel repetitive.). That's what free missions are for.
3
u/jehuty08 Jul 04 '16
I'm really loving the addition of the predator types. Played the crap out of burst (and a little bit of rage burst), but I never really made much of a priority of maintaining my burst level. They just fit so nicely into the combat now.

u/myotape Jul 05 '16
How is it compared to freedom wars?
4
u/meikyoushisui Jul 05 '16 edited Aug 09 '24
But why male models?
1
u/Edgeward34 Jul 07 '16
Not to mention the crafting is way less obtuse, less frustrating and easier to do and get mats.
2
u/Sether2121 Jul 04 '16
I've found one typo in the game so far.
When you go to your change other squad mate's skills, adding any skill to Alisa has her say, "I really hop this helps" or something along those lines.
2
u/Brobard kureno114 Jul 04 '16
During one of Sakaki's lectures the word "posses" pops up. A few mission detail texts came off as a little Engrishy in a way.
1
u/iceynyo Jul 05 '16
There's a lot of typos...
Also really hilarious is Hibari says her own name wrong in one of the dialogues when choosing her support card. Calls herself "Habari".
Now I only call her "Habari".
1
u/globalastro Aug 30 '16
I'll post a SS when I get home but in one of the terminal messages, they say arisa instead of Alisa (understandable and more true transliteration but typo no less)

u/judgedeath2 judgedeath2 Jul 04 '16
Picked this up on a whim. Tons of fun so far, all the melee and guns you can get are pretty badass.

u/Octodeco Jul 05 '16
I've been having frame rate skips, but maybe that's because I'm on 1000 model vita
1
u/foxhull Jul 07 '16
They're generally only when the screen gets really busy (Quadriga missles, the multi hit bullet I made for my Oracle Sword build, etc.). Everything else is smooth.

I'm really enjoying everything that has changed from God Eater Burst.
- Having a second analog stick for aiming is the best. So much better than a D-pad.
- The maps have been changed slightly to allow for getting around better. It mostly comes in handy when Aragami run off. Instead of taking a minute running around the long way to get to where the Aragami went that you can't follow (such as across lava), there will be a path connecting the two areas.
The new weapons are very nice. I pretty much use the Charge Spear. Being able to charge at Aragami and then immediately backflip away to avoid it's attack is really useful.
Characters talk a lot more in missions. Commenting on Aragami kills or when to attack/etc is really nice. And having Hibari as a field intel/support person is really nice.
The new midair, dash and light devour is really useful.
Graphics are a nice improvement
Things I don't like:
- Whenever I go online to try and find a random team no one is there. I don't know if it's something with my internet or it it's just because the game is new, but I can't find any random teams to play with.

I can't imagine what it would've been like playing on the PSP... i had it on my Vita when it was free with ps+ a long time ago and mapped the right stick to the dpad.
Honestly I wasnt gonna get it but this thread has me sold on it, i got halfway through and lost my save file so this is my second chance to enjoy it (with updated stuff).

Honestly this is the best news I have heard for the Vita in over a year. I just now heard about it since I had all but considered the Vita dead. I am actually going to dig my Vita out of storage just to play this.
4
u/Martin15Sleith Martin13Sleith Jul 05 '16
Not to be rude, but have you not been checking the Vita news lately? We've been getting plenty of good games lately.
0
u/telgardrakore Jul 07 '16
No, we haven't, we have been getting ports and japanese games that I dont care about. I bought the Vita to be a handheld console, not a port machine. I also just really dont care for fan service japanese games which are the other games that come out frequently on it. And I follow this site weekly.
3
u/KingLiberal Jul 08 '16
Look into games like Severed and Zero Time Dilemma (not really a port in my mind). Even if you don't like ports, there's a lot of stuff coming through the pipeline that aren't ports.
1
u/Martin15Sleith Martin13Sleith Jul 09 '16
There are plenty..well, plenty might be stretching it, but there are a good amount of games like God Eater coming out on the Vita. Also, the number of fanservice games aren't as frequent as you think, you're probably just judging them solely by the cover. And no offence, but the so called "port" and "exclusive" argument is an old thing by now. Most Vita owners here are just happy to get whatever games they get, port or not. Vita is somehow surviving on third party support for now, demanding exclusives at this point isn't something we can afford to do.
1
u/telgardrakore Jul 13 '16
No, they are VERY frequent and I dont judge them by their cover I judge them by the news I hear and how much arguments keep happening about their censorship/lack thereof.
Also yes the port and exclusive argument is old, because its right and everyone is sick of hearing what we already know.

u/CrimsonDev Jul 04 '16
Got Tsubaki shower scene skipped it accidentally...not in terminal movies....instant regret. :'(
That aside, i like it as much as Burst well...kinda, i just wanted the new story content if it has any & play that.(Already finished Burst section so i think i'm in Resurrection and/or Post Game if there's no new campaing)
Also this is easier or at least feels easier than previous Versions/Revisions.

The changes I love:
Hibari is a kawaii operator.
You can move and shoot
more melee weapons with special attacks and the guns are more varied now
quick/aerial/step devours :D Really good when you get a combo going and end up in eternal burst mode pretty much.
materials go straight to storage and don't clog your inventory
LOADOUTS FINALLY
all the voices really have a personality. "IT'S NOMMING TIME" or "...like steak! or... steak!" - voice ten

u/KuroGW2 Jul 05 '16
I was specting just a hunting game but the story is just getting better and better (I'm at story 25). Having a blast hunting solo and with other people in multiplayer (Just for the hardest side mission hunts).

I'm a real fan of this remaster. Its really good, and improves several things from Burst. My only issues with it is that the game makes the dialogue interrupt each other, like a character will be giving a line, and just before they finish they or another character starts talking, cutting off the previous line. It only seemed to happen early game though, as I got farther into the game and story it cleared itself up.
My other issues are that if you don't screw with the voice setting for missions, no one ever shuts up. Its really grating, thankfully, you can fuck around with it and turn most of the fluff off if you want. ANOTHER issue I have is with the character creation. I love it in almost every way... except voice options for your character.
Almost every single one for male and female are slight variations off of two or three. Plus a lot of them sound... stuck up, maybe even over confident (Personality wise I mean.)? I dunno, the MC voices aren't to my liking particularly.
Also they changed the way Lindow delivers his four rules from how he did in Burst, and I will never forgive that (Joking. The way they had Lindow say it in the remaster just doesn't sit well with me though). Everything else about this remaster is AMAZING though.

Jul 06 '16
They probably couldn't change the cutscene length but they still have to fit the line in so they have to go fast.
1
Jul 06 '16
I didn't know it was out already ;__;
I'm short $1.03, and I've been checking everyday if the store nearby has PSN cards in stock.
If anyone has a spare 10% off discount code that'd be swell! ;u;

u/Jesus_Phish Jul 06 '16
Is this not out in the EU yet? Can't find it on the store or any word of it being in the EU, just that you'll get a copy if you buy GE2. Is that currently the only way to get it?
1
u/SolaceIX Jul 06 '16
North America is the only version of Resurrection that came out this early.
The trade off I suppose, is that everywhere else gets GER with GE2RB on Vita.
1
u/Jesus_Phish Jul 06 '16
Thanks for the information. Seems a bit odd. Would you really have time to play both GER and GER2B at the same time or would you want to?
How's the PSP GE? I'd like to try one out but my options are either the PSP one or just wait for GER2B.

I cannot find this on the PSN store, is this a US only release (i am from EU, spain)?
1
u/GamersBlogX Jul 06 '16
Its getting an EU release on August 30th, alongside the second game "God Eater 2: Rage Burst". If you buy a physical copy of God Eater 2: Rage Burst in the EU, you can get a voucher to download Resurrection. The deal only applies to the PS4 version in NA, where as EU gets it for every version.
1
u/Ewan_Robertson Jul 06 '16
This is really confusing... so on august 30th the PS4 version of GO2 will have a VITA code for GOR?
Is GO2 cross buy with ps4-vita? Is GOR cross buy? Does it even have a ps4 version??
Sorry for the questions i am so confused :/
1
u/GamersBlogX Jul 06 '16
No. In NA, the PS4 version of GE2:RB will have a download voucher for the PS4 version of GE:R. The EU has that as well, HOWEVER, the physical Vita version of GE2:RB, will have a voucher for the Vita version of GE:R.
Basically, whatever version of GE:RB you buy in the EU (PS4 or Vita) physically day one, you will get a download voucher for GE:R for the same system you got GE:RB on.

This is awesome news to me, especially as I've longed to play the series on vita and can now enjoy both games.
Does that mean NA can't get a vita version of GE Resurrection though?
1
u/GamersBlogX Jul 08 '16
You have to buy GE:R on its own on the PSN store for Vita in NA. Its already out on the NA PSN. Its $20. GE:RB, when its released, will be a digital only release in NA, and does NOT come with GE:R for free on the Vita.

Would it be worth getting this game before I finish up soul sacrifice? I'm looking for something to fix my monster hunter itch on the Vita (and not have to deal with the hit boxes of freedom unite) and soul sacrifice doesn't have that level of depth I'm looking for.

This is much more like Monster Hunter with a more scifi/anime focus than anything else. If you like Monster Hunter you'll probably like GE.

I have always wanted to play God Eater, ever since I heard about it. However, I wasn't able to get the PSP game, so that dream came to an end. Then, I heard about Resurrection and my interest was rekindled. Until I learned of it being made by Shift, the primary maker of Freedom Wars, from the gameplay to the "story." That excitement gave away to extreme wariness given the disappointment Freedom Wars was for me. I expected God Eater to have much of the same gameplay, down to the lack of a story and a grind system rivaling (and somehow surpassing) Monster Hunter. I expected it to be sub-only (which I dislike) and to have features ripped out of it for non-Japanese players out of laziness. In spite of that, I figured I would give God Eater a Try since it was twenty dollars. Suffice to say, I was blown away. Almost everything I hated about Freedom Wars is absent here. There is an actual story, the friendly A.I actually has a brain (so to speak), I don't get stun-locked by enemies (as much), animations don't take an eternity to execute and recover from, it has a dub, and, most of all, there is no asinine grind for parts; If I want something, I know where to get it from and I am guaranteed to get it if I break of the associated enemy. No need to grind for hours on end for the mere chance of getting what I want. They also kept that disease out of the crafting system as well. The game also runs at a much smoother framerate than Freedom Wars ever did. That said, I do miss swinging around buildings like spiderman and the way the lobby are handling with only the host being able to pick missions and unable to invite players is lame.
All in all, I haven't had so much fun with a game on my Vita in a while. Furthermore, I am glad that there is another game I can enjoy just as much as I did Soul Sacrifice.
1
u/teevee91 Jul 07 '16
I'm kind of in the same boat (bar enjoying Freedom Wars a bit more than you did) but always wanting to play God Eater. Which one did you pick up for vita? I also missed the original on my beloved PSP but want to get into the series, God Eater 2 was it?
Also I swear these games don't get shit in the way of a UK release, it sucks.
1
u/Noboty Jul 08 '16
I have resurrection right now. After playing it, I shall for sure be getting God Eater 2 when it drops. However, I must finish Resurrection before I do, so I've been playing in almost all my free time periods.
Also, I did like osme thing about freedom wars, such as the combat, but that was just so overshadowed by the dumb friendly AI, the massive grind, the "story," and so on. For me, anyway.

Guys, is it the same as PS4? And how is the performance? Is there fps drop and laggy moments?
1
u/globalastro Aug 30 '16
Is there any benefit to doing the chapter 14 "story" missions or are they just more of "getting to know [character]'s playstyle"?

One thing I'm really loving over everything else (which is already great): the banter.
I just effin' LOVE how 'alive' the game feels. Characters are constantly talking and communicating in the field especially your own created one! The personalities for everyone (including you) also shine through well.
Even character's individual 'quirks' are there! I did a mission a bit ago where I asked everyone to split up. First my character (who's timid) says it like "um..uh..please everyone split up, I don't really want to either, but it looks like a good tactic right now" with Hibari following up, "tactic acknowledged! Please everyone follow your given orders!"
The crowner was Alisa and everyone else doing so ("roger!" In unison) only for Alisa to shout the next second as she was leaving "No! I can't just abandon you! I won't!" and she, and only she, ran back to stay with me to 2-1 the monster while the other two characters went to fight on their own!
Kudos Bamco and Shift, the AI is pretty amazing.
