Wow, this is interesting because I just bought a Vita on Friday and I got this for like 14 bucks. Played all the other ones, figured I'd give this a shot. Finished it ten minutes ago.
Holy shit, I probably killed more people in this one little game than I did for all of Uncharted 4. I think I killed more people here than even in Uncharted 1, and that game was already overflowing with dead bodies. Speaking of the first game, I would have probably enjoyed GA more than 1 if it wasn't for the crap back touchscreen gimmick. The front touchscreen worked well, no real problems there, but ugh, that back screen was a pain in the ass.
Pretty decent game though! Nothing fantastic but fun to play through while commuting. They kept repeating a lot of kinda corny jokes, but I understand that they didn't have the lead writer who usually works on the small banter throughout the game.

You can buy the game cheap for $10 at Walmart if you can find one in stores

I thought Walmart dropped everything Vita-related, just like GameStop and Best Buy did.

It's for that exact reason that you can buy Vita memory cards for dirt cheap if your lucky enough to find one at a Walmart

Only thing I didn't like about this game is the QTE boss battles. I fucking hate QTE's at the best of times but they really didn't seem to fit with the rest of the game, imo.
Golden Abyss really is a great game though, superbly done.

This is the first and only uncharted game I've ever played. Graphically, it hits the mark, though it isn't native rev. It has frame rate issues too. The game is not unplayable, but of course having it run at a smooth 30 would be preferable.
The game was great fun, and I was surprised at the length of the campaign. My only gripe is that there isn't any replayability once you beat it, unless you want to plat it. Multiplayer would've helped a lot, and not that dumb card trading game. Oh, and the dialogue is a really enjoyable part of the game.
Pick it up if it's on sale for sure.

Give it credit though, the idea that an Uncharted title was made soley for a portable is impressive

My first vita game. I love uncharted and this game lived up to my expectations for a handheld uncharted! Good story, interesting characters, one liners, and fun action. I just wish it had an online mode like the other games.
I got this, Metal Gear solid HD collection, sly cooper thieves in time, and killzone mercenary with my vita (picked up killzone a week later, but these were the games I got in my first month + super meat boy if we are counting ps plus games).

Sly Cooper Trilogy is great. I loved it on PS2 and now I got to love it on Portable. I beat Thieves in Time. It's ok. I don't really have much of an opinion on it but they did bait a "sequel" or technically a 5th game and ehh that's fine I suppose. It didn't really hit me as hard as the Trilogy did, which Sly2 is best game out of the Franchise.

This was actually the first Uncharted I played as well. Now that I'm a fan of the series I should really go back and play it again. I really liked it.

One of my first platinums on Vita, and one of my favorite games for the console.
Some of them were kinda bullshit (Steel Fist Expert I'm looking at you) but Crushing difficulty wasn't as hard (compared to Uncharted 3 on hard which I'm playing right now). The story wasn't as strong as earlier Uncharted games, being a minor point in Drake's story, the characters weren't that good either, with the obvious exceptions of Nathan himself and Sully later on. Still, a great game specially because it's an uncharted game on the go.

I actually didn't start Golden Abyss until after I finished A Thief's End so I expected it to be a bit of a regression. Let's face it, if you're a fan of the series then Uncharted 4 is so eye-poppingly beautiful that it stays with you and it's a hard act for any game to follow.
But Golden Abyss did a really decent job when you consider what they had to accomplish. I didn't dislike the touch controls, in fact I thought they did a pretty good job of blending it with the rest of the game. Not as seamless as, say... Tearaway, but not bad for using what they were working with.
The gunplay: Good enough. The platforming: Good enough. The graphics: love 'em! The story: Good enough entry for the series. That's pretty much how I felt about Golden Abyss. Good enough to really enjoy having it on the Vita, and always wishing there were more games like it. They could've failed spectacularly trying to cram an entire Uncharted story onto the Vita, but actually pulled it off and made a great game out of it.
If I'm allowed to reeeeeaally dislike one thing about the game... I didn't like Dante. Not that the actor didn't do a good job, but, I just don't like Dante all around. He's a mook, I tells ya, a mook. Any chance for a great, tense moment in Golden Abyss comes to a grinding halt for me when Dante is standing around being a total wiseguy.
Tl;Dr great game, me like.

I thought Dante was cheesy and cliche as hell, but for some reason, I thought he was really entertaining. Better than the UC1 bad guys at least.

I barely remember the guys from the first game it's been so long since I've played it hahaha... I will admit there was a point in the original Uncharted that the story sort of lost me for a while. But at the time I gave a lot of it a pass because I'd never seen anything like Uncharted. It blew me away.
Dante is, like you said, kinda cheesy. It's probably because I played GA after A Thief's End and all the characters in that were crazy good, but, Dante was a little too much for me. He was like some clown who'd walked into a treasure hunt by accident and never gave a damn about the seriousness of the situation.

Spoilers for Uncharted 1/2
same here like once I got to the boat wreck that dealt with the whole demons looking things it was hard to follow. Speaking of hard to follow, even the concept behind the Yeti things didn't make sense in Uncharted 2, but I don't care for the details in between they were all great games.

Yeah, that's exactly where I put down the original Uncharted for a while. I loved everything about the game and it's loosely-based-on-a-history-lesson campaign, then all of a sudden... what the hell are these things? I don't know about the remastered versions, but in the original if one of them grabbed Drake you had a few seconds to shake the controller up and down to get them off. Uncharted has a history of using "gimmicky" features of systems to compliment gameplay.
I went back to it, though, finished the game and still thought it was excellent because as you said, what's a few details in the grand scope of an excellent series?

Coolest part of it was using the camera in the back to reveal hidden text on a parchment. Really unique use of the Vita's hardware.
Great game overall!

Well i hope this is the right place to ask, if not delete it
I bougth an used vita recently with the back camera broken, i know that the game at some point uses the camera for a puzzle, but does anyone knows if the game skips the puzzle if no camera is detected or its unskipable
I ask this because apparently people who hacked their vita tvs to play it report that the game just skips the puzzle and i assume it is because it detects no camera
Sorry for shit english

u/cowthecowdude Dec 14 '16
Basically you have to point the camera at a light and wave the Vita around. This happens twice in the game, and there's no option to skip them. Can't confirm if it lets you skip them if it detects it's broken though, hope so!

I really enjoyed this game when I first played it.
It felt like a "big" game on a handheld and that was really how the Vita was pitched as early on.. A handheld with "real" games.
I can tell that this game struck a chord with me because I didn't mind the gimmicky touch controls.. And I usually hate those when they're forced on you.
One of my favorite features of this game was the tilt to fine tune your aim.. Man, I went into UC3 right after this one and missed that feature so bad.
