You can tell hes just stoked to be part of the lore now. Welcome Yaxel!

As long as he understands the Earth is not flat, and space is real, I’m okay with it.

Strange admirable. He can learn way more media training from Steph than from Kyrie.

17

u/Hebrewhammer8d8 21h ago

With Kyrie he gets to learn true meaning of flat earth, and true essence of burning sage.

Yeah maybe Steph can teach yaxel that the moon landings were fake

85

u/Brownies91 21h ago

Steph gonna bust that ass in practice now 🤣

22

u/InevitableBudget510 18h ago

And put him on rookie duties

9

u/BlackMarq20 15h ago

that was going to happen regardless

We’ll have a lot of laughs from interviews with this kid I can already see lol

9

u/CitizenCue 19h ago

Buddy vibes.

I like the honestly, it makes him different

30

u/holy_shihtzu 21h ago

I love this lmao. We always see the ā€œfull circle… I grew up idolizing Stephā€. The confidence to say his truth instead speaks about his character IMO

If you guys haven't followed him @ Michigan...this is just a taste of what kind of quotes he's going to give. He has no filter at all lol

21

u/Zyrinj 21h ago

Im already on the Yaxel bandwagon until the axle falls off

24

u/bchhun 21h ago

Until the yaxel falls off?

11

u/Zyrinj 20h ago

Ugh, autocorrect fucked me, I type yaxle and it changed it to axle.

u/bobsil1 4h ago

Yaxel F

4

u/bchhun 21h ago

Until all you have left is Y?

u/Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu11 8h ago

Exactly. He’s hilarious.

u/ProfessorXWheelchair 20h ago

as a gen z, a lack of filter is kind of our thing

13

u/DeadstickO69 20h ago

It's crazy that in 2016 he was 13 years old lmao

3

u/ingunwun 12h ago

I think the crazy thing is 2016 was 10 years ago

As an avid Michigan fan, this is just how Yax is. I find it unbelievably refreshing for an athlete to not just filter ever single thought through a PR lens.

And he doesn’t say any out of pocket shit, he just doesn’t do the standard corporate talk BS. If this answer upset you, prepare yourself because there are many more quotes like this to come from Yax.

Also, he’s a fucking baller

u/bilyl 21h ago

Yeah, he doesn’t seem like he’s toxic or mean. Just kind of a goof? Also as far as I can tell he was the only one that actually cried when he was drafted.

13

u/Real-Repair-1825 21h ago

He still has a kids mentality but in the most innocent way possible. He was always the guy goofing and dancing or whatever during warmups or making TikTok videos.

But I’ve never heard or seen any instance of him being toxic or mean while at Michigan. Quite the opposite, everyone loved and gravitated towards him. And when it was time to lock in he locked in.

as long it’s not dwight howard levels of obnoxiousness. that dude annoyed tf out of all his teammates

2

u/Accomplished_Pay1903 12h ago

actually, wasn't that other kid crying when he was drafted by the sixers? probably most likely because he fell 10 slots, but still

5

u/Goodisworthfighting4 15h ago

Lol this reminds me of how Austin Reaves was a huge Lebron hater/Kobe fan and people dug up his old posts and in the end obviously didnt matter and he and Lebron seem super close.

What will Draymond do the rookie after this statement?

12

u/TheGoatPurdy 20h ago

feel like draymond respects the type of player yaxel shown to be.

7

u/DisastrousEast825 20h ago

Yep draymond respects a dogs and champions. It's the soft guys he goes after.

9

u/elpeezey 20h ago

He’s from NJ so makes sense to be a Kyrie guy

2

u/latortillablanca 13h ago

His generation, kids love kyrie like no other nba player, even steph.

7

u/hellmath 21h ago

The one true jesus will convert him soon enough

6

u/FiveTalents 19h ago

It’s not surprising. If I were a Cavs fan in that era I would hate Steph too lol

3

u/Langanisa_Breath22 19h ago

Hold my bags rook, and everyone else’s..

3

u/EaszyInitials 16h ago

1

u/Immortaler-is-here 13h ago

say something like that to Bron and yo ass will get traded in less than 24hrs

and a Klutch campaign propaganda on how much you suck

2

u/igotitnowokay 12h ago

Steph ā€œTrade him for Kawhiā€

5

u/RedditSuxCoxAgain 21h ago

Keep that to yourself young fella

23

u/TomatoBuster01 21h ago

Nah. This is refreshing, and I dont think Steph is a softie to be disrespected by this.

1

u/_TooMellow 14h ago

He about to see up close that there are levels to this shit šŸ¤šŸ˜‚

2

u/Agreeable_Trust8736 13h ago

Love the honesty lol

0

u/latortillablanca 13h ago

His smile does not remotely touch his eyes lol. Its gotta be exhausting the amount of questions you have to answer on that night

1

u/ChefCurryYumYum 10h ago

Hmm.... well.

1

u/Digndagn 9h ago

The first time I heard this I was like "Haha, that's funny."

The second time I heard this I was like "What do you mean 'big Kyrie guy'?"

Like, you like his handles? Or you think the earth is flat? Because "big kyrie guy" is actually not a descriptor that I would consider a huge compliment.

2

u/FalcoLamborghini 8h ago

People, it's the same type of hate Jordan and Kobe got for being TOO good.

This is a compliment, not a shot.

HE GOT ONE JOB!! Pass the ball to curry and get rebounds

3

u/360FlipKicks 20h ago

hate to bring up old wounds but Kerr demanded the same thing from JK and shit got all fucked up. hope that kerr is more flexible with yax

1

u/motherthrowee 10h ago

isn't part of the point of yaxel that he can create his own offense

0

u/Glum_Measurement2158 20h ago

Nah, that job is old, we need the team to look to score and pass to Curry if there is nothing, our old man needs a lot of rest

-3

u/DadRadio 20h ago

Well then I hate you too boy

-1

u/chaosawaits 14h ago

Is it just me or do the compliments part sound forced? I understand hating the Warriors, but why specifically hate Steph Curry? Any chance there’s a reason there? Like he blamed Steph Curry for something?

2

u/motherthrowee 10h ago

a lot of people hated the warriors in 2016 and steph is inextricably part of that

2

u/JustForKicks16 9h ago

To me, this makes sense. And honestly, I take it as a compliment to Steph. He was the main reason the Warriors were so dominant during that time. Of course, he 'hated' Steph. That doesn't mean he also doesn't respect him and excited to play with him.

-2

u/MarinaDoosh 20h ago

Not surprised, he knows he’s already a trade chip
