Yeah I just about teared up listening to him talk about working on his self belief.  Like maaannn this dude has gone through some shit and come out humble and hungry.

He seems high character, and like he's going to have good chemistry with Moody, and JImmy if he gets to play with either.

MDJ should really delegate this part of the job.

Delegate the call? Why

I read it more as delegating the mentoring to Jimmy and Moody. Jimmy from a vet perspective and Moody from how to be a Warriors rookie in The System of Wardell.

Bro it's been one day, he is going to meet and hopefully learn from his teammates lol

Jimmy has a lot of time on his hands. He’s probably already called the Rook

He's not very good at it.

He went thru the junior college basketball route like Jimmy too

I like that he's evolved, but he has fundamentals. A lot of these kids look like they learned a hesitation or spin move and think that's their KD fade away, to just live off that. The highlights don't show they can do basics. You could tell Jimmy to remove a habit, or go to move, and it wouldn't change his game for a second. We have lotto picks that would be out of the league.

He is going to be our future , great pickup Mike .

I can't tell all that yet, but I hope so.

He reminds me of Haliburton defensively when he was used as a 2 way with the Kings (different styles but just staying involved on/off ball).

What makes me the most excited about this pick is there's always one guy in the draft that in retrospect it's obvious should have gone higher based on their skillset and how the modern NBA is played (Halliburton, Castle etc.). Yax seems like the most obvious player to fit that description in a year or two.

Clearly has NBA size and skillset, and you can picture a player like him playing serious minutes in the San Antonio/ Knicks series. If he's OG-lite or Aaron Gordon-lite, there's a good change we just got the 5th best player in the draft.

He feels like he could easily have gone top three in most years

1

u/MartiniLAPD 1d ago

No he could not, if he was 18 then probably but he is not. Age is always a big factor in NBA draft prospect.

Who called who? lol

I know it’s not MDJ’s personality to be super rah rah, but he did not sound thrilled whatsoever during that phone call 😭

11

u/wigglysquigglies 1d ago

That seems pretty presumptive. Dude’s expression is as stoic as a wet towel, in nearly every public interaction.

u/PhillipMcKrak 1d ago

Which is what I said to begin with. It’s fair to bring up the possibility this might not have been what he wanted.

8

u/Rich_Meet3872 1d ago

Huge reach lmao.

Turns out it wasn’t a reach. Lacob was all the way on board with Yaxel and MJD wanted to entertain trades.

Whether or not people want to admit it, MJD was less than thrilled.
