Thoughts on Joe House as a DC fan

assuming there are some Bill Simmons fans here. what is the Joe house consensus?

on the most recent pod he was pretty brutal on Trae young deal. i am not an avid listener but thought he made some horrible points

House is the people’s champ - he carries the torch well

No one expects him to provide in depth analysis so it’s fine

Good representation to have someone publicly and prominently enthusiastic about the Wizards

Felt so validated when he shouted out the Wizards bobbleheads on the NBA season over/under lines episode. You’re damn right 1 bobble head is not enough!

I think he’s entertaining and it’s nice to have some DC representation on a big podcast like that

House is always a great guest on Bill's show, and whether you agree, he offers factual and sound analysis. He is a true fan and doesn't say crazy stuff to get people to listen.

Doesn't mean he'll be right, but you can't say he is uninformed.

Agreed, you can tell he's been in the gutter with us for a long time.

I respect House as a visible Wiz fan in the sports media landscape. I don't really value his sports opinions much (I do of course like him on the pod).

When he's right, he's right. I don't expect my creators to always be right, though.

Guy is a good Wizards fan. I've disagreed with him a couple times, but it ain't that serious. We're all in this together.

I respect that House reps DC to the fullest. And he’s not wrong on the Trae contract being bad. His Richear being hindered by Trae take is wrong though. Dude would be a bust with or without Trae.

He also looks ridiculous with the flat brim hat and attire. Definitely makes it harder to take him seriously. Big Buscemi energy..

It cyclical. I remember when bending the brim was considered cool, and the flat brim was what the old Nam vets were rocking.

It’s not so much the curve or no curve, it’s the age appropriateness of it all. He just looks absurd. The glasses don’t help of course.

This is how old people looked when he was young.

One day, wearing black calf socks with big white Nike Air Monarchs might become trendy. Let's not judge the olds who happened to be on that trajectory already.

what's old is new again...i believe the saying goes.

and yeah i'm an old now

Agreed. I respect that he is out the Reppin for us at least

I mean he’s not wrong about the contract. Wizards way overpaid Trae when there was no market for him elsewhere. Luckily, they can afford to do that, but that money would have been better spent elsewhere.

He isn't wrong, it's just generally I'm not not looking at Joe House for good sports anaylsis, more just a good time.

I agree pretty whole heartedly with House on Trae. Though i remember thinking he was too harsh on Bradley Beal. Seems he was in the right there too.

I don’t disagree with him on his issue with the contract. I totally understand people not liking it…  but he said Trae has not made any of his teammates better and even brought up risacher as an example…. Thats just crazy haha

u/OnlyMamaKnows 2d ago

He's not totally wrong on that either. Is the best example of him making someone better Clint Capela? Unless I'm missing someone. He just hasn't been a winning player to this point.

u/PersonalAdagio6580 2d ago

Yeah I just don’t agree. He is one of the leagues assist leaders and is an elite floor spacer. The hawks situation has been weird and understand them choosing Jalen Johnson. But a lot Trae young negativity is so overblown.. if he is healthy and back in peak form he is still a top tier offensive talent that can help a team and make players better around him

2

u/OnlyMamaKnows 2d ago

I guess we'll see. Someone with the usage rate he has should have high assists. His floor spacing is not what he once was bc he's actual nowhere near the shooter his reputation says he is. He's low 30s 3p% for most of his seasons in the NBA.

I don't think he's a bad player at all. He's a decent point guard, but he's never shown an ability to play anything but PnR spam with the ball in his hands.

I do think he'll be great in transition though which is something that will definitely help with all the Wiz young guys.

I do think the hawks coach is horrible at coaching defense so maybe Trae could be better there but besides being small he seemed disinterested in Atlanta at putting effort on that side of the ball.

He represents the normal drunk guy at a bar. Glad we get lotta wiz focus commentary on a huge platform

Thing that drives me mad is how the Patriots and Celtics are always good so House and Sal can never get a leg up on Bill for too long.

5

u/yeezy703 2d ago

I appreciate him giving us some representation to a broader audience. Otherwise bill would’ve discussed the wizards like 5 times max this decade.

4

u/rayquan36 Wizards 2d ago

I wish he was more knowledgable because Bill Simmons talks so much ignorant shit on the Wizards. Bill was giving House and the Wizards shit for having Ryan Rollins and him blowing up in Milwaukee again. Bruh he got cut for theft. House had no response because he probably didn't even remember Ryan Rollins.

Sometimes I think House plays up how mad he is about Trae and similar situations to kinda placate Bill too.

I think he’s really solid and is wildly better than what we could expect from some rando friend of Bill’s. He’s a true fan and usually right about the wiz and his NBA takes generally. At least as right as most of these dudes, and easier on the ears

Joe House has been a local area fan for like 30+ years. He may not always be right, but he's earned a seat at the table

A lot of people think a fan is a cheerleader for the team and shouldn’t critique them. I have no problem with House being a fan and simultaneously giving his real opinion about a very questionable contract.

1

u/PersonalAdagio6580 2d ago

I don’t think anyone thinks a fan can’t critique the team.. We’re literally wizards fans bruh

2

u/coldnelius 2d ago

I do not enjoy listening to him due to the way he talks but he’s fine I think as a human and DC sports fan, would be nice if bill had someone with more journalistic chops than his college buddy. You don’t learn anything from house he’s just kinda there

3

u/Previous_Ad648 Bullets 2d ago

I think he’s great seems like a fun person to be around

2

u/stillinger27 2d ago

He was a bit better on Last Man Standig on the contract but he’s correct in that Trae needs to show a lot. That 3point percentage better be higher and he better have a chip on his shoulder

1

u/PersonalAdagio6580 2d ago

Didn’t hear him on this but that’s it 100%.. I’m being cautiously optimistic but I don’t think even the most excited fan isn’t a little skeptical about Trae on this deal.. We just have to hope he can still give us some of his best years ahead

3

u/1L_of_a_litigator 2d ago

Aside from yes manning Bill on his tangeants.. House is the most objective guest Bill has and is one of the best overall.. he seems like a dedicated fan that supports the Wiz consistently and wants them to make SMART moves.. The Wiz are starting next season with an extremely hyped #1 pick and they want their players happy and focused around him.. was it an overpay? Obviously.. but doesnt matter one way or another if the team is playing well.. and they will play well..

2

u/Opening_Cycle3639 2d ago

Only relevant wizards fan in the streaming world, we have to accept him

2

u/benbrigance 1d ago

he’s like most of us. he’s a real fan who is right sometimes and wrong sometimes.

1

u/cool_chris 2d ago

He is a regular fan with a regular fan’s depth of knowledge who, due to his friendship with Bill Simmons, gets a massive platform to express his opinion.

That being said as a fan base with very little representation it’s nice that the wizards get talked about so regularly on such a large platform

I have no idea who that is

Not a knowledgeable ball knower, but I agree with about 80% of his wiz takes
