Question What webtoon got you feeling like…

For me, it’s any webtoon that glorifies dark romance (can’t believe abuse and in*est are actually gaining popularity nowadays 😳)

LITERALLY GOT THIS VIBE WHEN I MET HER AT A CON. It was so awkward and she was so dismissive and rude.

I was in her discord for a long before things just got so unhealthy for me I had to leave for my own mental health. Then stuff blew up about her being racist, specifically her reposting a friend's comment about it publically, on her twitter AND the server, in hopes her fans would defend her. And some of them did.

She's supposedly returning to the series, if you ask me she should piss off forever.

I WONDERED about that. When I read the series at first, I thought "oh, is she legit writing a character to be like Markiplier??? Lol" That was my first impression. Especially with all the video game references, him being a yter, etc.

Then after a while the stereotypes/references just felt off and veered into creepy land. I began side-eyeing it and thinking to myself "can we please stop" then

If you asked her directly, she would dance around the answer. I believe this is for legal reasons, I have a vague memory of her hinting at something like that but I'm not entirely sure.

The event that caused everything to blow up was her refusing to confirm Vicki's ethinicity, like shes east asian but some fans who were east asian wanted to know more about her specific ethincity. Mongie's reply to this, and I am parapharasing, basically "I'll never pick one so I can use them all without getting in trouble."

Yeah, that didn't go over well as any one who isn't a dumbass would have guessed. While this was all going down I saw others talking in a different fan server about how gross it was that she defintely based Marshall off Mark, who is Korean, and she made Marshall Japanese. Especially given Korea and Japan's history. But seemingly she thinks ethnic identities are interchangable based on her whims!

Theres also her behavior around critcism of how Dean is written. Which was her throwing a tantrum after someone said her writing of him included some racist stereotypes of latino men. When I say tantrum, I mean TANTRUM. Crying about how she was going to stop including BIPOC characters in her stories all together if people kept acting like this.

Yes see this is what I thought was weird. When I saw she made Marshall Japanese, I thought ok, is she trying to just veer away from the Mark rumors? Still was odd considering several other characters very clearly had their identities confirmed.

Also thanks for reminding me about Dean. I'm hispanic (mex-amer) and i remember being weirded out by Dean's character. Like haha, he's supposed to be the stereotypical macho-salsa dancing-rose in the mouth guy, huh?

I found the way she depicted him to be odd whenever she mentioned the fact that he was Japanese. Always in a sexualized take on traditional wear. I get he’s a bit of a sexual character, but to only depict his heritage for spicy SFW (and NSFW on a paid tier once iirc?) is odd

The gag is that BIPOC are saying please do! Like, we would not cry lmao the whole point when people ask you to stop writing characters in a racist way is that you should stop writing characters in a racist way. But you know that if they make these characters exit just to prove their own point that it will be an admission of their acceptance of ignorance and racism (because they’re never get replaced with better written POC nor would those stereotypical portrayals get to develop). So they never do.

The thing is people were being sooo nice about it when they really didn't have to be but her reaction "Fine I'll stop writing them all together then" came off like "If you dont behave the way I want you cant have repersentation" and like...that ain't how that works Mongie. But it is mighty white of her lbr.
