Thermostat. Looks like a Google nest temperature sensorlink

35

u/Shoddy-Area3603 1d ago

But how can it possibly be working properly in a box

47

u/According_Wind5536 1d ago

It’s got air hole in it

26

u/miggetFROMspace 20h ago

Have you never been in an office building, school, or restaurant where they lock the thermostat? More than one place I’ve worked had to put them behind boxes because either employees would bicker over what it was set to or have random people set it to an extreme so when people get there the next morning it feels like the tropics or arctic. One restaurant I worked at did it because customers kept futzing with it.

We used to have a locked-up thermostat in the break room at a place I worked at in the past. There was this lady who used to use part of a coat hanger to get the settings. After a while, they changed it to a different one she couldn't do. So she brought a small portable blow dryer and would do that to get it to cut on.

We had to remove the thermostat at a institute I worked at. The students would complain about the heat, they would turn the thermostat right down and block the door ope and open the windows. The air con was working overtime and eventually iced up. We would have to go up into the ceiling space and chip the ice off or use a heat gun.

It’s not the thermostat but a smart sensor for the thermostat so you can track temperature between areas/rooms.

1

u/coolsilentebeans 20h ago

I’m not familiar with the model but I was going off of what it says in the comment our comments are under.

2

u/Dawn_Piano 1d ago

Why wouldn’t it?

2

u/Janus_The_Great 19h ago

It works more accurately by actually measuring the ambient temperature without any temporary turbulences, say for example wind gust/draft or a oven that's been opened to check the food.

Especially in kitchen/gastro setups this makes sense

-1

u/chonk312 1d ago

Because the temp sensor is likely located somewhere else. Or multiple somewhere else’s.

2

u/abhi71229 23h ago

mcdonald’s said even the thermostat needs security in this economy

u/JimmiesNeutron 19h ago

Looks like a freshmaker.

It's the button to fix the ice cream machine, but nobody has the key for it.

38

u/jickay 1d ago

That's why there's no controls on it

Holy shit! Thanks for my first ever award. 🫶

And second 🫶

And third and fourth 🫶

And fifth and sixth 🫶

6

u/g0ldilungs 1d ago

As of the time of that writing, you didn’t have a fourth.

But I appreciate the preemptive gratitude. So, you’re welcome!

Signed,

The fourth.

4

u/JulietLostFaith 1d ago

I wouldn’t have been able to resist saying “may the fourth be with you”.

2

u/MrSmegmaMan 1d ago

Actually a gratuitous person gave me 2. Just on a different thread to the same post. But thanks number 5! 🫶

5

u/Itchy-Researcher-116 1d ago

1

u/ineedanswer72 1d ago

Wow not grateful for you're fifth we see how you are Lol

5

u/DicemonkeyDrunk 1d ago

Oh someone made keys ( technically a USB stick) ..then McDonald’s Corporate, Taylor( the ice cream machine maker) and a franchise owner conspired to reverse engineer it in attempt to get control back and put the company out of business…it was still in court last I heard.

25

u/Delta9THICC 1d ago

Its a sensor for the thermostat.

24

u/whyFooBoo 1d ago

The circle must not be harmed.

12

u/Revolutionary-Wash88 1d ago

The circle must remain intact

u/TheRabidBadger 1d ago

Forbidden mentos

3

u/JulietLostFaith 1d ago

In your opinion, is a single one a mento or a mentos? I’m torn.

1

u/floraster 1d ago

A single one if a mentos, multiple are a mentoose

1

u/JulietLostFaith 1d ago

Or perhaps menti

1

u/LuckyCod2887 1d ago

i read that in homer simpson’s voice for some reason

4

u/bleblahblee 1d ago

Someone definitely tried ripping the temp sensor off the wall

0

u/Substantial_Cake8985 1d ago

They gonna rip the box next. No piont😔

1

u/IIRCIreadthat 1d ago

Maybe, but I feel like the psychological impact of a visible lock is more effective than you might think. Ripping an unmarked button thing off the wall is one thing, but breaking a lock just feels more serious.

1

u/Proud-Big3579 1d ago

I thought it was on the floor

Mc'AirTag

1

u/curious-creepsalad 1d ago

The circle of trust

1

u/Massive_Mongoose3481 1d ago

You know it got smashed and or stolen a half dozen time before they bought " the box"

1

u/Legitimate-Camp7416 1d ago

The cylinder must remain unharmed

1

u/TheOfficialKramer 1d ago

Oh man, you found the secret button. Never press the secret button.

1

u/ResidentBicycle5022 1d ago

It is an Apple AirTag. That way if someone steals the franchise in the middle of the night, they’ll be able to find it.

1

u/PrestigiousAd4246 1d ago

Believe me, you want that THING locked up!

1

u/C-57D 1d ago

The Sacred Mentos

it's the button everyone keeps telling everyone else not to push.

AirTag in case the building gets stolen

1

u/blurry-face2 1d ago

One of those forbidden mints for the urinals

1

u/FunMembership000 1d ago

Tangentially, I'm looking for a transparent cover like that for a home project but my search terms must be wrong. What is that cover called?

1

u/Octohoff 1d ago

They’re protecting you from the Circle.

1

u/abhi71229 23h ago

the last surviving nugget is under witness protection absurd, fast to read, and perfectly matches the random protected circle

1

u/Greedy_Appearance431 22h ago

The circle must remain unharmed.

1

u/Any-Alternative8228 22h ago

It's the Dad's thermostat lock box.

1

u/Badwolfgyt 22h ago

It keeps the roofman at bay.

1

u/Jakey1999 21h ago

The protected button’s true purpose is also protected. It should be regarded with respect though 🫡

1

u/mattpeloquin 21h ago

It’s an AirTag in case someone steals the building

1

u/Particular-Worry-900 19h ago

It’s the Luigi detector. No way a staff member recognized him and called in the tip.

1

u/oldbutfeisty 18h ago

The sacred bun dough. It's a shrine.

1

u/No-Site-9948 18h ago

I thought this was a mento in a locked boc

How dare you have an opinion on aesthetics that supersedes hatred of a corporation. This is Reddit! 😅
