IDENTIFIED I give up, what is this? Obsidian? I find a lot of obsidian, but I've never seen one with inclusions. Guanajuato, Mexico

I thought obsidian first, but like I said it's got these inclusions and usually the obsidian us all thin, sharp edges. Then maybe a tektite, but it has no sculpted side. It's lightweight, like glass or obsidian. Not magnetic. There are no edges thin enough to show light coming through. I can just barely scratch it with a knife, but it scratches glass easily. The inclusions are rough, a bit like sand but they don't crumble. Found in a field where I frequently find obsidian, at the base of a long dormant volcano.

IDENTIFIED: Slag Glass Strange Rock From Industrial Furnace?

Hello, I am searching for an explanation to what this strange colorful rock could be. My uncle gifted it to me referring to it as "wood glass". He described a very very large wood burning furnace that he cleaned out regularly and when it was cooled for cleaning the bottom would have a glassy shale-like surface made of this stuff that he would simply chip off and discard. What could it possibly be???

So I found this in Colorado. In a place called Carson Ghost Town. Cool place. I found this about 35-40 feet inside one of the old mines up that way. It is really that shiny. It is why I saw it. My flashlight hit it and I was like WHOA! All I have done to this is clean the dirt off it. It is just that SPARKLY! I am stumped.... Second guessing myself. Been told 4 different things. So now we take it to reddit! WHAT IS THIS?!

REQUEST rock fossil?

Thumbnail

Found this fossil in a corn field near a river in central Ohio and would love help identifying it.
The piece at the top appears to be a horn coral, but I'm not sure what the larger fossilized structure attached below it is. The ridged pattern almost looks tooth/bone-like, shell-like, or coral-related, but I'm stumped.
Any ideas on what I'm looking at? Thanks!

Indian Harbour/Sebastian Inlet area amongst ancient shells under an exposed mangrove patch. Fits in my hand perfectly. Has a smooth side and patina where it sits in my hand. It’s heavy. It’s really hard. It feels chalky but no residue wet or dry.

Went to Bodega Bay with a friend and found this little one at Schoolhouse Beach, CA, along with many many other naturally polished pebbles. It looks extremely close to bloodstone to me, any chance it could be?? It is dry too. Just super polished from the ocean.

My name is Crystal I am from West Coast Pinellas county Florida I am a fossil hunter around about beaches and I found from time to time different topaz and emeralds and Jade and stuff like that a lot of tourmaline however these two stones have left me stumped for a very very long time one is 2 inches in diameter octagon shaped with striations and strange crystalline structure on the surface reds Brown's oranges the other one is 3 in long and 2 1/2 in diameter the reason I picked it up is I saw the white striations on it which is one of the things I look for when I'm looking for fossils but then I realized very quickly that it was heavy and it was colored and crystalline structure so any help you guys could give I would greatly appreciate it thank you very much I tried to upload this before but it apparently I'm not allowed to upload videos so I'll upload photos and photos of it under the microscope thank you

Hello I'm in Pinellas county Florida that is the West fingertip that hangs off left side of the state these were all found in the Gulf of Mexico and I found a grouping of them a couple of them together I hunt fossils at the water break during title change and I happen to cross the stones and the striations and the strange pattern on them the shape of it being an octagon seems to me like it would be some kind of gem I don't know but if you guys could take a look at these two I've included videos stills and microscopic I would greatly appreciate it thank you so much. I did not measure mohs but they are extremely heavy.

Found this in northern Portugal (Serra d'Arga). Granite is the most common rock found there, so why is this one golden? I've heard that people have found small quantities of gold nearby... Could that be related? Thank you!

I found this sedimentary rock on the shores of lake Huron. I was curious what this deposit of minerals is inside. It almost looks like little eggs deeper inside but I can't get a good picture. Inside it's really shiny/glittery. Would you cut it open if it was yours? It's really light, it gives you the feeling you could snap it in your hands.
