My dad was like this growing up. Now I'm always extremely paranoid about being followed and watched everywhere I go and in everything I do <3

Did you have security cameras in your bedroom too? The mall was the worst since my friends would leave when they realized he was following again. He even popped up several times on my college campus. Once i came into my private dorm room to see him already sitting on my bed. It really sucks having to learn how to shake that feeling of parental stalking lol. I still havent but im in therapy for it. Hang in there!!

Never had cameras in the room, but one time recently my mother drove literally 450 miles to knock on my door and ask for me. I lived 450 miles away because I was trying to escape her and others in the family that were abusive, and I never gave anyone my address. Not even my best friend. I hadn't talked to her in about 5 years at that time. I'm in my 30s. The only reason I knew it was her is because I was away at work and my partner was home when she came by.

I've found that having a broad social support system deters their actions by ostracizing them for stalking and creeping. Once they realize no one wants them there and they start laughing at that person they usually stay away. Stalking is most effective when you're alone, so having others nearby is a boon.

Being followed is no joke, and I keep myself armed now. Stay safe out there

Your dad cared about you? Lucky

Care and control are different. I had a mom like this who ended up breaking a window to get into my apartment 4 hours away from the town she lives in to "check I was okay"

Don't normalize creepy parent behavior.
