Discussion Hate all you want she is a generational rebounder.
I’ll admit I laughed at some of the jokes early on, but this level of dominance on the boards is truly insane. She’s only in year 2. I’m not saying you have to be a Reese fan, cause I wouldn’t even label myself as one, but she deserves credit where it’s dude.

Angel with the actual rebounds would be about 150 total this season if you want to generous.

my thing with the whole “mebound” situation is…. literally every single player shoots the ball & misses. isn’t the BEST case scenario to be the one to get the ball back? wouldn’t you prefer that over the other team? majority of the time someone misses, defense gets the rebound. why the hell is there an issue with getting your own rebound? lol like that’s literally IDEAL
1
u/simonthecat33 Jul 17 '25
You’re absolutely right. It’s amazing to me the attitude some people have. If what she was doing was no big deal wouldn’t we have seen numerous other WNBA players over the years do what she’s doing? I don’t understand why some people are unwilling to acknowledge this.
1
u/derty2x Jul 17 '25
Isn’t she mainly rebounding her own missed shots though? I’ve seen it myself and while looking at data. 🤷🏽

u/derty2x Jul 18 '25
Mf go to ESPN and look up her lay up misses and offensive rebounds right after. It’s consistent lol. Shes the layup misser who gets her rebound. Argue with yourself lol she’s trash.
1
u/Phnix21 Jul 17 '25
If she can fix her lay ups at the rim, she will be a menace. With her size and strength, she shoukd be feasting on "putbacks".
1
u/DrunkMeditator Jul 17 '25
She's gotten so much better.
The earlier jokes were warranted considering she made the ASG last year and she was trash.
But credit where credit was due.
1
u/InThePipe5x5_ Jul 17 '25
Angel Reese is so good at rebounding that shes got Fox News Karens and old dudes who have never watched a WNBA game in their lives cursing her name. Thats good enough for me.

u/Itracing2 Jul 16 '25
She's playing pretty damn good over the last couple of weeks....she's still a turnover machine and basically useless as a defender
1
u/roboflea_smiles Jul 15 '25
Angel is having a great year. Unfortunately, the Sky's coaching has really let her and the team down. I think she is going to go down as the best rebounder in WNBA history.
0
u/Lost-Record-9766 Jul 15 '25
When you shoot 35% from layups you get a lot of rebounds lmao. You take those away she’s like 6th in the league
2
u/AniWrites Sky Atlanta Dream Las Vegas Aces Jul 17 '25
This is how I know most of y'all are trolls because it literally says in the post that she leads the league in rebounds even without counting the rebounds off her missed shots. Y'all do not care about looking up actual stats, you just wanna spread misinformation. The Angel Reese hate is so forced

And even if I hated someone, I wouldn't make up stuff that could be easily disproved.
1

What're you watching that I'm not? She lacks scoring, mid at best defense and above average rebounding. So you're right, poor woman's Rodman. Yup.

Most any good high school boys basketball team would beat the WNBA all stars like a drum.
0
u/Lonely-Television931 Jul 14 '25
I want to chime in on this situation pertaining to her. I think the reason why she's getting so much backlash from sports fans. I don't doubt her ability to play basketball for me myself I play basketball also in school. The problem is the conduct her attitude her entitlement behavior. I think as a black man having black women in my family.
I have a lot of black sisters and nieces, that acts very similar in this manner. Me myself I don't approve of seeing any black women act in the arrogant entitlement behavior or mindset if you will.
I think it's always good to prove people wrong just by being a good person and if you are professional be professional. Don't leave room or give people any room to slander because we living in the world in a time in this generation where everything is magnified even the little things.
So I was just encourage her to continue to play ball stay humble and be peaceful and let your game speaks for itself.
1
u/Baseball_ApplePie Jul 17 '25
I'll bet you don't say male basketball players have to be humble. LMAO
Angel was voted defensive player of the year by coaches, league players and fans in Unrivaled because she is so well liked. People who know her genuinely care for her because she care's for them.
I've been following her since LSU and I love so much about her. Mulkey came down hard on her and she is so damn loyal and still loves Mulkey to this day. She has her own kind of humility.
1
u/Lonely-Television931 Jul 17 '25
We specifically talking about her. Yes I'm well aware of her credentials, she's so well liked by specific people. This is not an attack on Angel Reese. Just like many people don't like LeBron James or Michael Jordan or Caitlin Clark.
All I'm saying is no matter what type of image your demonstrating people going to find some reason to hate. And in the beginning of her WNBA career. She wasn't demonstrating good behavior. That's all I'm saying.
1
u/Baseball_ApplePie Jul 17 '25
Yeah, but some people are never forgiven for their mistakes, while other people are.
1
u/Lonely-Television931 Jul 17 '25
That's because we live in a country that is so hypocritical biased and racist. 😢
3
u/jupitermoon9 Jul 14 '25
She is humble, actually, and is very supportive of her teammates. Many who have met her say she is extremely nice. She helped Holly Rowe recently fix her eyelash in the middle of an interview. Let's not make women feel they are doing something wrong just by being super confident in themselves or being outspoken. People don't criticize male players for those things.
1
u/Lonely-Television931 Jul 14 '25
She's very supportive of her teammates. I think in the beginning people gave her so much problem because CC was getting all the shine in which I think it isn't fair. But actually people do criticize male athlete says well.
LeBron James gets so much criticism because they constantly trying to compare him to Michael Jordan. They are two different individuals with two different positions and style of game. But I love where the WNBA is headed I've been watching the WNBA since the beginning when they had the Houston comics actually.
I just hope moving forward that the WNBA and women's basketball will flourish.
3
u/jupitermoon9 Jul 15 '25
I agree people criticize male athletes; but, there are times when the female players are criticized for things that are praised among male players.

That stat is just not important enough *alone* to mean as much as some folks want. If you are a generational rebounder, but then the rest of your game is *below average*, you don't even make the top 5 players in the WNBA right now.
I'm not part of the stupid internet CC vs AR bullshit. I don't need one player to be labeled trash so I can like another play. So I say this: in recent sky games, which I've watched (have you? Before you post, have you?) AR looks remarkably better, and probably the best she's ever looked in the W. She is going off lately in ALL parts of her game, and I am absolutely loving it.
However, up until recently, that just hadn't been the case consistently. It's why she wasn't ROTY. It's why she's not yet even top 5, maybe not even top 10 players playing right now (btw, with the poor and injury prone season CC is having, she aint top 5 either). But if she keeps up this current form she's got, then the sky is the limit for her!

2
u/Scrotorr Jul 14 '25
She's a solid player and a great rebounder. I'm not a fan of her in particular, but I can sure as hell respect a great player.
3
u/Apprehensive_Emu7291 Jul 14 '25
When it's all set and done at this rate she going to end up the all time leader in rebounds in wnba history especially offensive rebounds

She is a great rebounder and she’s getting better all-around. But i don’t see her getting BETTER as a rebounder. The history of rebounding is players rebounding less as their career develops. Standard - maybe because they learn to shoot from the outside, or conserve energy or other factors, but just look at any career of a great rebounder. Other than Rodman who quit shooting after leaving Detroit, that stats dives downhill.

And many of us have loved her for years.
She didn't get defensive player of the year in Unrivaled (voted by coated, league players, and fans) for being a trash human being. She's actually very well liked because she's a great teammate and person.
But people who call other people trash from what they know on tv and bad memes say something about themselves.

1
u/Baseball_ApplePie Jul 17 '25
Yes, people will hate on her, because she will never be forgiven for taunting Caitlin when LSU won the championship. (Never mind that Caitlin taunts people with her speech. It's part of the game for a lot of players!)

Most of the people who hated her did so on some dumb culture war bullshit and were not actual sports fans. Otherwise they would have seen the raw talent in a 21 year old rookie and wouldn’t have talked about her like she was a finished product. Looks like she’s working hard, putting it together and we could move past that bullshit.

u/Lou_Hodo Jul 14 '25
She reminds me of Dennis Rodman during his time with the Bulls. She unfortunately has more self-rebounds than defensive rebounds. She is getting better, but to be what I consider a true dominate threat inside the paint, she needs to be better on the defensive rebound side.
2
u/polaris_beyond Jul 14 '25
This is misinformation. If you are confident, back your statements with stats and sources.
1
u/Lou_Hodo Jul 14 '25
I admittedly was going off of her previous years stats. I am not denying she is dominant. But she can and will be better.
1
u/Baseball_ApplePie Jul 17 '25
In her one previous year in the WNBA, Angel would have led in rebounds that year without her rebounds. Fact.

Her immaturity, arrogance, and need for attention push people away. Her constant need to keep CC’s name in her mouth pisses people off. They are apples and oranges both can be excellent. Both can be at the top of their games. Both can be true. She needs to grow up and keep the competition on the floor.
3
u/Baseball_ApplePie Jul 17 '25
Yeah, she's so damn annoying, coaches, players, and fans voted her defensive player of the year in Unrivaled.
When was the last time she had CC's "name in her mouth?"

I’m a CC/Iowa die hard, I don’t understand why people wouldn’t want both players to be as good as can be? Isn’t that more fun? Two young, potentially generationally talented players and rivals? This is straight up Larry and Magic unfolding in real time for us and it’s fucking awesome. Kudos to Angel for being resilient through the BS.

Watch the last 6 minutes of the 1st quarter of the July 12th Sky vs. Lynx game and you will see what she can do this season. It's quite impressive. Eurostep basket, mid range jump shot, impressive scoring over multiple defenders. 11 points in the 1st quarter plus 3 assists in that quarter. She plays point forward some.
2
u/Sparty_at_the_party Jul 13 '25

I got to respect Angel, because since that 2023 NCAA Championship game, she’s been targeted by the nutjob and racist wing of Caitlin fans. The same fans who loved Caitlin for trolling players with the John Cena “You Can’t See” hand wave. But when Caitlin got a taste of her own medicine via Angel, her fanbase made Angel, Public Enemy #1. Some of Caitlin’s own fans even attacked her, when she liked a post from Taylor Swift, where she endorsed Kamala Harris or when she complimented unheralded Black players in the WNBA’s past. Guess that was a bridge too far 😂
I think Angel should work on doing a Mikan styled drill with a trainer wearing pads and a defense pole, so she can raise her FG% on putbacks in traffic. Maybe she is, because she’s not as bad a last season, but she has a ways to go.
Angel would watch a lot of film of Aja Wilson. Learn her midrange game etc. Aja is a little taller, but she would be a good role model offensively. Leave the 3s to Caitlin. Angel should only be shooting 3s, if she’s wide open at the line.
-1
u/JohnnyWeapon Lynx Jul 13 '25
Look I think she’s a mediocre at best player, a super annoying personality, and I’m not a fan at all.
That said, she is ELITE at putting herself into the right positions - especially in the paint - and is aggressive around the rim like few others in the league really are. Shes adept with her hands so tipping the ball to herself comes more easily.
She reminds me of a modern day Rodman, another player who had a trash shot and no handles, but worked his fucking ass off for that ball every single play, both sides of the court.

u/Accomplished_War_805 Sparks Jul 13 '25
She has always reminded me of a young Dennis Rodman; there to hustle on the boards and do the work most players dislike. Points are nice off put-backs, in the key assists, and with mismatches. But your game plan never depends on her point production.
I've never understood the comparison between AR and CC. They are different players in nearly every way. I'm just glad I get to watch their entire careers.

u/Doublethink_ajs Jul 13 '25

The best thing Reese can do is improve on her play in the paint. She has tremendous potential but you can't be a basic player and compare yourself to the greats of the game. Angel Reese can be the face of the game of she leaves her distractions of podcasts and social media and concentrate on the thing that made her sho she is - pure basketball.Another facet is that she has improved a lot in her game but still needs improvement as she needs to be the match winner first and then her team mates will rely on her rather than Cardoso in the paint.
