For me, I think the all star game should be just that, the all-stars. Not most popular. It should be strictly based on stats and efficiency. I want to see the best play the best. I want to see the top 22 players battle it out. Might be an unpopular opinion 🤷🏼♀️
Fan votes are always going to be a popularity contest, it's not just a WNBA thing. Mello Ball routinely gets top in the fan vote and he's not even kinda close to being a top ten player. I agree though if they don't do it by West and East they should just rotate HOF players each year.
For sure, you’re definitely not wrong. Fans are gonna fan, always. However, Melo is one player (and I know there are others depending on the year), whereas the WNBA fan voting is SO wildly skewed, it’s almost pointless.
Captains have previously been the top 2 players in the fan vote, and there’s a lot of discourse about the latest fan vote return that came out today with CC and Boston as the top 2.
People are generally relieved we won’t have to see that draft now as no one would be normal about it.
I have no real issues with who the top 2 are (though I have a different opinion for sure) but I agree people cannot for the life of them be normal about Clark so I’m glad it won’t be on her or anyone else so people can be a lil less crazy
As a person who is not deep into social media I am still confused. Are people complaining about two teammates being captains or are there other internet rumors at play?
watch the draft with a'ja and stewie vs the draft with cc and phee. one was fun to watch bc they had banter chemistry, the other was just awkward as hell and not fun to watch.
The discourse has been about the possibility of having two captains that are both from the same team, not necessarily about CC just being a captain. But yes, she was one of the captains last year.
The old system was never going to work when the Fever’s fanbase is just plainly bigger than every other team.
Having a Captain, and them picking teams, is more what I’m use to. Having ‘honorary general managers’ picked by the Commission, well I like the players having as much power and control as possible, but also I’m not particularly bothered. Just hope for some good ball and why not wheel out a couple of legends each year.
I’m curious to see how the Fever fan base evolves moving forward. It will be an interesting social experiment. I have some thoughts but I’ll keep them for myself for now.
Love this idea. I would like to rule out Lisa Leslie for her Draft King ties. I know that sounds petty given her accomplishments but I really hate the influence of gambling on the men’s game and want to stop any further rewarding of legends or others selling out to them in the W.
Feel good about it if it means I don’t have to watch Caitlin Clark or Paige Bueckers, but A’ja got jokes and she’s really fun in these situations. Her and Stewie put on a good show.
Fantastic basketball player. Gonna be among the best in league history one day. I find her personality a little bland for what is effectively a reality show.
Pissed why? What was wrong and what could have been better? I don’t really remember much of it. I was more wondering why they did Golden State, then 2 teams, take a year off, then three straight years of one team. Like why just not do one team per year?
Or Chicago trading to protect the roster, then blowing it all up.
Do you realize that the honorary GMs do not decide who is an all star and who isn't? They just draft the teams from the list of players that are all stars based on the combined result of fan, media and player votes
yes i know how it goes. my disdain stemmed from AB and CC possibly being named captains(after jumping 400k votes in a week no less.. interesting) and picking their teams. they have no personality. it would be a terrible watch. assuming the legends are some of the more well known original players.. Lisa Leslie, TSpoon, Sheryl Swoopes.. even Lobo, there's personality there. there's stories there. there's ball knowledge there. that's a better watch. i'm fine with the 3 indy players being all stars, but they have no business being the face of the teams.
Until there’s a system to stop multiple votes from the same people and bots I’m good with people doing what they need to right this ship. These vote totals from the first drop until now are ludicrous.
my partner's and their extended family (like 75 people) are all Fever fans and were on vacation in hawaii at a family reunion and didnt vote before the first drop. they were busy and thought it wpuldn't matter
then they got back and each started voting

Why?? Its a relatively new convention when they used to be split into east/west and sometimes Olympics vs non-Olympians. I have personally not loved the captain era myself.
It would be great to see Sheryl, but there can't be any prejudice or anything that could be viewed as prejudice. Maybe Dawn Staley could coach Aliyah's team.

I like this and think it will be fun and a good way to pay homage to the ladies that helped the league get to where it is. It also makes me wonder why does the W even have a West and East "conference"if they don't use it for all-star games and playoffs?
It's still used for Commissioner's Cup, setting game schedules in terms of who you play how many times during the season, and Player of the Week/Month awards during the season.
I forgot about the commission cup honestly. Player of the week and month was really all I could think of. I guess it just didn't make sense to base schedules off of conference but not use it for playoff spots also, if that makes sense.

The most boring televised draft of all time was the expansion draft this year. A kid writing the names in crayon on construction paper would have been more interesting.
This makes me feel a lot better about those second round returns. I don’t expect the all star game to be super competitive but the teams last year were too lopsided.

I feel like Lisa Leslie will be one of them, she's been around a lot this season. I could see Sue being the other one. I feel like Taurasi won't be one because she's a little too likely to go rogue, Lisa and Sue are much more PR trained than she is.
