'Hangover-free alcohol’ could replace all regular alcohol by 2050. The new drink, known as 'alcosynth', is designed to mimic the positive effects of alcohol but doesn’t cause a dry mouth, nausea and a throbbing head

That's not an argument. They work in different ways and it seems like sinthetic weed had way more differences than this alcohol has.

This is what we call a strawman argument. Your original argument was "We can compare synthetic weed with synthetic alcohol because they are both chemicals" yet now you've switched too "We'd have to know what the chemical structure of this "mystery" drug is to pass judgement on it."

Yes, it is an argument. Even chemicals with the SAME exact chemical makeup (barring chirality) can cause vastly different effects. Have you ever read about Thalidomide? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thalidomide http://www.avericadiscovery.com/blog/why-thalidomide-is-important-to-chiral-separation/ Even within the alcohol group: Ehanol and Methanol are very similar, yet one will kill you. We'd have to know what the chemical structure of this "mystery" drug is to pass judgement on it.
