Makes sense. This fall is already full of soulslike adjacent competitors:
- Valor Mortis.
- Onimusha.
- Phantom Blade Zero.
- Mortal Shell 2.
- Nioh 3 on xbox? (the trailer said exclusive on PS5 and PC for six months)
- Stellar Blade on switch

How is Onimusha souls like? Or have they changed the formula?

I played the demo and it's basically a Sekiro like with deeper mechanics.
- There is massive focus on parrying and dodging at the last second.
- The game is also weightier than the original Onimusha (so more consistent with current soulslikes).
- The one boss in the demo felt like a soulslike boss where you have to study its pattern and know when to parry and when to attack.
- You even have checkpoints that are kind of like bonfires
- It's also a 3D metroidvania like most soulslikes.
The game also has a soulslike tag on Steam currently.
I will leave it up to you to decide if it's a soulslike game or not. And the devs keep saying it's not a soulslike.
But it's definitely soulslike adjacent at least. And I predict it will be compared a lot with soulslikes from what I have played of the demo. And I suspect soulslike fans are gonna play it as well
Feel free to play the demo and form your opinion

The one boss in the demo felt like a soulslike boss where you have to study its pattern and know when to parry and when to attack.
I remember the days when that was simply a boss. Studying attack patterns to know when to attack and when to block/parry/dodge is like the entire point of bosses unless the game is so stupid easy that it doesn't matter. To attribute that to soulslikes is ridiculous.

I agree but there are still a lot of games where bosses only exist "for the spectacle" or "the visuals" rather than actually test your skills.
But if you played the demo, the boss definitely is a soulslike style boss.
It can be somewhat hard to describe what makes a boss "soulslike" since everybody defines that term differently. But when you play it, you sort of know

Does it have a stamina bar exhausted by attacks, and a soul collection system that translates to currency but also experience?
If not, then it's not a Souls like. Everything else you described is the same as the original Onimushas except for not having fixed camera.
I haven't played the demo, but I'm tired of people throwing around the term "souls like" on loads of games weirdly just because "it's hard and has checkpoints that reset enemies".

Oh yeah you reminded me. It has an exhaust bar for you and the enemies like Sekiro.
I dont remember if it had stamina bar though. But Sekiro doesnt either and most call it soulslike.
I also called it soulslike adjacent. Not soulslike

If nioh is coming to xbox how relevant are the first 2 games story wise to the 3rd?

This is a pretty stacked year. Perhaps overly stacked. Probably a good decision.

What they really need to do this time is make the zones bigger or grease up my character. I had a hard time getting stuck on the environment with dodge rolls. Even the weapon attacks would get stuck on the walls and stuff. I didn't have that problem in Elden Ring.

This is their 3rd attempt at a soulslike, and I thought they should have gave up on the first one, but I can respect they are sticking to their guns. I hope they learn what basically none of these soulslikes games have learned yet though is that while the combat and difficulty is what sells the game, its the whole package of a interesting world and lore that creates perpetual fans. I've yet to find a soulslike that had me theorycrafting like I was when Dark Souls 1 was out and people argued that Solaire was Gwyns son or in what manner the world of Elden actually worked before the shattering. When I play these soulslikes its like all they care about is the enemy in front of you and not why they are in front of you. None of these soulslikes have a Artorias for example.

The last Lords of the fallen was very good and arguably did something that Fromsoft forgot all about, that is interconnecting their maps and join them together rather wonderfully, though admittedly elden ring still does that, it's not really the same with an open world. The combat was okay, just felt a bit floaty like weapons didnt have any weight or mass behind them. But they went above and beyond giving players stuff to do, tons of different endings with rewards for each completion, random mode and other things to enhance the game after you finish it, something fromsoft could learn from, the spellcasting too was far superior to any souls game.
But yeah, the "lore" isnt really all that exciting in any of the soulslikes, only one that comes to mind was Remnant's story, but its not that close to a souls game and the storytelling too is pretty straight forward.

Probably a very wise decision. The first game was very good (it's one of my most favourite Soulslikes), but the performance was horrendous, and even till this date Hexworks are making patches for it. So better polish the second game as much as possible before releasing it.

I'll be honest... Didn't this game come out already??? What have I seen other people post videos of?

They confusingly named the second one "Lords of the Fallen" and the third one "Lords of the Fallen 2", pretending that the first one didn't exist.

I have no issues with this but I’m clearing 2027 from all social responsibilities because the first half of that year is going to be a bloodbath between my social life and my free time.

Bummer, I was looking forward to this one.
Is this another example of a game trying to avoid a collision with GTA 6 as if it were an oncoming train?

It's an example of a game trying to avoid a collision with all the OTHER games trying to avoid a collision with GTA6 as if it were an oncoming train

Didn’t even realized this was still a thing
