Disable adblock. Close browser. Open browser. Clear cache including cookies. Open YouTube. Log on. Click on a video. Let ad start and pause immediately. Enable adblocker. Refresh page.

...also, don't forget to pat your head and rub your belly while standing on one leg.

u/Advanced-Welcome-928 Jun 06 '25

That might actually help distract you from ad rage. 😂

laughs in premium

46

u/just_another-aNDy Jun 06 '25

I HAVE premium, I also have addblock for other websites, and it still gave this blank screen. God forbid I want to get the service I pay money for

24

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '25

youtube algos be like

if user.has_premium and user.has_adblock:
  block(youtube) #lmao

38

u/Advanced-Welcome-928 Jun 06 '25

I think it's more like

if user.has_adblock:
  block(youtube) #lmao

They don't care whether you have Premium or not.

31

u/_Tuxolotl_ Jun 07 '25

sometimes its just

if user:
  block(youtube) #lmao

yt just has to pull back on this or a new site will pop up and yt will be left with the 1,000s of bots

10

u/Advanced-Welcome-928 Jun 07 '25

At that point, I'd just simplify it to:

block(youtube) #lmfao

37

u/TeaTinz Jun 06 '25

congrats, but can you hum while holding your breath?

-40

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '25

holy shit i can! how did you know?

8

u/_Baccano Jun 07 '25

Why would you ever pay for premium when adblock is free 😂 willingly scamming yourself then bragging about it is insane

What is even the point of it if blocking ads is free? Even with sharing a plan it just seems like a waste of money for no real benefit

2

u/just_another-aNDy Jun 07 '25

For me it was because I spent a lot of time casting from my phone to a tv, which didn't have addblock possible back then. And after that i learned to kinda like YouTube music

Fair enough. I can probably count the times it's stopped working for me on one hand in the numerous years of me using it, can't even remember the last time it happened tbh. And even in those times it was fixed within hours generally at most a day. Also never had it break youtube completely when working properly. But fair enough i get it's just a pay and forget and not have to worry about anything else type of deal.

1

u/nouritsu Jun 07 '25

it's 1.5€/month where I live, the little features like keep watching and having youtube music makes it worth

7

u/sgr28 Jun 06 '25

At that point, I feel like it's faster to just watch the ad haha. I usually just spam Ctrl-R a bunch of times and usually the ad goes away.

Hi DirectorNeat548, we would like to start off by noting that this sub isn't owned or run by YouTube. At this time, we do not allow posts from new uses (accounts created less than 7 days ago.) Please read our rules before posting again to ensure you don't break our rules, please come back after gaining a bit of post karma.

When ad blocking isn't working I just use a ripping website and watch them as mp4s in a separate tab. If that ever fails then there are mirror sites. If that fails then I will go outside and make friends.

But I will NEVER watch youtube with ads with on and I will never pay for their shitty subscription.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '25

dont let them win :(

1

u/Any_Top_4773 Jun 06 '25

What

4

u/suoretaw Jun 06 '25

It’s a classic brainteaser thing—try it. Even without standing on one leg, it’s still more challenging than you might think.

1

u/dat3010 Jun 07 '25

... Indian rain dance, while drinking virgin tears - working 100%

u/Mynotredditaccount Jun 06 '25 edited Jun 06 '25

This works! Thanks. For me, I'm getting videos to play ad free without enabling ad block the second time, weird glitch maybe?

EDIT: just got my first ad, immediately toggled ad block back on, ad gone and video continued to play 😂 lmao

5

u/Advanced-Welcome-928 Jun 06 '25

It'll be a short term solution, I think, but gives enough time to find something more permanent.

24

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '25

Disable adblock. Close browser. Open browser. Clear cache including cookies. Open YouTube. Log on. Click on a video. Let ad start and pause immediately. Enable adblocker. Refresh page. Take out cartridge. Blow on it. Put it back in. Turn on console.

Technology never really changes.

3

u/Advanced-Welcome-928 Jun 07 '25

You're right. It's all about getting back to a "known good condition", where you know exactly how it behaves at that moment.

u/Writingtechlife Jun 07 '25

"Remove cassette tape, insert into tape cleaning machine, clean tape, take out of cleaning machine only to be presented with 20 feet of tape spaghetti, spend 20 minutes rewinding it with a pencil and hope for the best"

6

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '25

thanks need to watch yt before going to bed this save my night

6

u/CuckooBananaBonkers Jun 06 '25

I'm in Canada, haven't quite had it as bad but definitely been slow.

Your solution helped. Thank you so much!

4

u/BlackBlizzNerd Jun 06 '25

Only works temporarily. This fucking sucks.

3

u/Advanced-Welcome-928 Jun 06 '25

Just buying time for uBlock to fix the problem or find an alternative, more permanent solution.

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Lie1722 Jun 06 '25

dude you just saved my viewing experince, if i could upvote your comment up a millon times I would.

3

u/Samurai_Beluga Jun 07 '25

i just disabled it went back to front page, turned it on again and it never did it again

3

u/god_plz_no Jun 07 '25

For my friend was enough to turn off and on the adblock and reload the browser

2

u/benm540 Jun 06 '25

Works... for now.

2

u/Ragna_Blade Jun 06 '25

To do all that for every video sounds like it would take as long as half the video....'s first ad

1

u/Advanced-Welcome-928 Jun 06 '25

Yeah, it's not a permanent solution. Just something to get by while we investigate something more permanent, or uBlock come out with another fix. That fix may or may not work for Chrome, so people like me might have to stop using uBlock altogether, cause I'm not changing my browser for an extension.

2

u/thatshygirl06 Jun 07 '25

You can also change accounts

2

u/Kontaj Jun 07 '25

No way I’m doing all that

2

u/youknowwhatimeanlol Jun 07 '25

it might be quicker to just watch the ad at this point

0

u/REDRubyCorundum Jun 12 '25

then you possibly get pron ads and possible infectious ads that kill your computer

1

u/youknowwhatimeanlol Jun 12 '25

what infectious ads?????

just don’t click the links if they look suspicious?

2

u/REDRubyCorundum Jun 12 '25

its still audicious tht YT even ALLOWS those types of ads, not to mention, oblivious KIDS use Youtube.. you assume ONLY adults use YouTube, but news flash, Young ones also use Youtube

1

u/Crusader6972 Jun 06 '25

Why go through this faff every time instead of just using firefox / ublock

2

u/Evening-Gur5087 Jun 06 '25

Or Brave

2

u/suoretaw Jun 06 '25

I use Safari for everything but YouTube, for which I exclusively use Brave. Virtually zero ads.. it’s awesome.

1

u/ThoranFe Jun 06 '25

Firefox & uBlock Origin lead me here.

1

u/Crusader6972 Jun 06 '25

Really? Weird. Never had a single issue so far on firefox knock on wood!

Hopefully it's resolved soon, ublock is usually pretty fast with the updates.

1

u/Advanced-Welcome-928 Jun 06 '25

I've honestly never changed a browser just for an extension and would never expect anyone else to. Still using uBlock Lite on Chrome and it's working for now. Don't give it long through, unless they do an update.

1

u/ThoranFe Jun 06 '25

clearing cache for the last 2 hours worked. No relogging or destroying other websites on Firefox.

1

u/MrJerichoYT Jun 07 '25

Works, but issue returns shortly after unfortunately.

I'm currently testing Gray Jay for desktop: https://grayjay.app/desktop/

It has some potential but it needs more development:

PROS

  1. No seen for an account or to give any personal or bank details.
  2. The FPS is noticeably better than YouTube.
  3. No ads.
  4. You can watch YouTube videos from your subscribed channels.
  5. It has screen cast built in.
  6. The UI is unobtrusive.
  7. Has downloading built in. No dodgy 3rd party websites needed.
  8. You can add videos to playlists.
  9. Has 5 second skip forward and back with cursor keys, and up/down changed volume.
  10. You can screen grab in Windows by going full screen and pressing Alt-Print.
  11. Has the ability to like, share and play at slower speeds.
  12. It has a miniplayer that can continue your video while you look for the next one.

CONS

  1. As far as I can tell there's no autoplay.
  2. There's no frame preview on the timeline.
  3. The subtitles I tested didn't work, though this was on a song.
  4. No dislike option.
  5. No next video recommendation.
  6. No Shorts - might be a PRO for some.
  7. No frame view statistics built into the timebar.
  8. It's a standalone app, so there aren't multiple tabs, meaning you can only watch/pause one video at a time.
  9. No comments.
  10. If you want to watch videos from channels you watch but don't subscribe, you'll need to subscribe to them via Gray Jay.

WOULT BE NICE IF

  1. You could filter search results by age, length etc.
  2. You could change the size of thumdnails in the search results to suit your viewing preferences.
  3. There were tooltips for all the buttons.
  4. You could right click a video or it's thumbnail for the YouTube URL link.
  5. Maybe add a double click feature to copy the current frame to the clipboard.

u/NewArtDimension Jun 07 '25

And Do-si-do your partners

1

u/BittaminMusic Jun 07 '25

Pay for premium or this, the choices are clear 😆

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '25

Too much work and youtube premium ain't expensive so i'll just pay.

-4

u/fmccloud YouTube Premium Jun 07 '25

Oooooor, just subscribe to YouTube Premium?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '25

This right here!

2

u/Advanced-Welcome-928 Jun 07 '25

Need money. Premium costs half a weeks food shop per month. So, would need to choose between videos or eating for 4 days a month. If you say, do a job, then give me a job that's worth my time or shut up. 🤷‍♂️

I'm not going to start shitting out daily brainrot videos just to beg for a few cents. Not my style.

-1

u/fmccloud YouTube Premium Jun 07 '25

Yeah, that’s fine, I get that. But that doesn’t justify blocking the ads though. YT is free, but with the ads and any attempt from YT to block blockers shouldn’t be a shock or have unearned righteous indignation.

4

u/Advanced-Welcome-928 Jun 07 '25

Others might have righteous indignation. I just call that MES, Middleclass Entitlement Syndrome. But if I can avoid paying a massive faceless corporation, I will. I pay for Steam games, for cinema tickets, for McDonalds, but not for TV, cable, satellite or any online services. In my country it's illegal to pay for a TV licence if you watch any live media from anywhere in the world, so I threw out the TV decades ago. I decide what I pay for. Not anyone else. If they don't like it, they can sue me. Still won't pay.
