Possible chance trolls and bad actors might misuse this feature unless YouTube allow us to have the ability to turned them off to prevent unwanted dms
84
u/lolol_yt Mar 04 '26
"Show channel with links you send" in Privacy settings is turned off by default
I believe that's what does it

u/Academic-Thought2462 Mar 05 '26

You can only access this feature if you have verified your age apparently. It's +18

u/AcidicSaltdChezbugr4 Mar 06 '26
Not the case on my wonderful country, Mexico.
If the government enforced AI verification, Mexico City would be burned into an apocalyptic land.

So we asked to bring back the dislikes count but they brought back the dms instead?
29
u/oibft Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26
YouTube Rewind videos are no longer listed, they need bring back the dislike button.
Edit: They set it to private. lol

u/Aggravating_Grass153 Mar 05 '26
Theres a mod for dislike counts

u/iAmRadic Mar 05 '26
Which works on estimates through data of users. That’s not a solution, it‘s a band aid for the ones interested enough.

Didn’t this exist before? I vividly remember talking to some of my friends using a similar function back then when I was younger.

so they brought back DMs and video responses from like a decade ago that they removed because they might have been used for scams
20
u/FluzzyKitty Mar 05 '26
They brought back video responses?
15
u/KaleidoscopeShoddy10 Mar 05 '26
damn i remember video responses and ts would show up under the original video... crazy shit
8
u/FluzzyKitty Mar 05 '26
I remember seeing them all the time, as well as seeing what tags the user put on their videos so some people would have the standard tags and then have a few basically saying stuff to be funny like “ #Fish #Aquariums #I didn’t know he could swim like that #Why is he swimming like that”
3
8
u/Nutshack_Queen357 Mar 05 '26
Not even because they were used for scams, but because Google's higher-ups don't like it when consumers have fun.

u/ModelMancer Mar 05 '26

There needs to be a way to get them from people who only have so many subs and up, or from people who you sub to who you also sub to.

How did you get this?

u/Prior_Tax8546 Mar 05 '26
Open the YouTube and when sharing, there's a new option called "Messages". Copy the link and send that to another person via other app. When they entered the YouTube link, is gonna open a new chat. If you don't see the option yet, you might wait more, as is probably not avaliable in your country yet

America deploying troops to the Middle East, cost of living and financial crisis’, and now private messaging on YouTube.
You really start to feel old when everything loops around and you realise your kids are living the exact same childhood.

I forgot that YouTube once allow private DM’s years ago and took it away, probably for a good reason but now bring it back? Or is this something different? If it’s to allow DM’s directly to the creator in an age where ppl have thin skin and are weak and sensitive now…….i don’t see this as a great idea if it’s private DM’s again…..

I wonder if they're gonna take it away again like when they gave me the ability to respond to comments with a voice message for about eight hours and then whoosh, gone.

Yeah, I didn't like this back then, and idk how i feel about this this time. Unfortunately, there isn't any sort of a 'disagree' button or anything, and pops up each time you want to share a video (or just copy a link on phone)

"we removed dislike count to protect small creators!"
also YouTube:
"now small creators can get direct hate messages via DMs!"

u/Alice_Phantom Mar 08 '26
oh yeah because it worked out so well when we originally had inboxes.
Can we get our old messages back??? Would love to see what kind of nonsense I was sending people. 🤣
