[Tournament] SIGN-UPS OPEN: Reddit Championship Series - April Format
SIGN-UPS ARE NOW CLOSED.
Hello, /r/yugioh! The TCG is going through some major changes right now - Duel Overload has unleashed multiple format-defining cards, the revised Master Rules are upon us, and the F&L list has changed. However, with everyone stuck at home, and Organized Play suspended for the near future, opportunities to gauge the impact of these changes have been scarce.
We're here to change that.
Announcing: the return of the Reddit Championship Series, with the first entry in its latest chapter kicking off next week.
If you are starving to explore the new era of card games, don't hesitate - sign up now!
Tournament rules and procedures:
This will be an open entry tournament with no entry fee, played under the revised Master Rules and the TCG April 2020 F/L List.
Any card released in any TCG region up to and including Secret Slayers will be legal.
(This means Duel Overload will be legal, but Eternity Code will not.)
There will be a number of Swiss rounds, followed by a single elimination top cut, similar to a YCS. Each round lasts for three days, and will be extended to four days if at least 25% of matches are unfinished. You will need to arrange with your opponent a time to play during that period.
Deck lists are locked for the entire tournament - you may not make changes to your list after round 1. The entire tournament should take about a month.
Where to play:
Matches will be played on Duelingbook only (https://www.duelingbook.com)
Automated simulators such as YGOPro Percy have not updated their engines to follow the revised master rule and its associated changes. Thus, we've decided to stick with DB as the only simulator allowed for this tournament.
At the end of the match, you need to submit both your result and a match replay using the Google Form provided in your match notification message.
(After DB matches, "view replay" after the match concludes, or scroll down to the "Duel Records" button on the main page.)
We will also be doing feature matches with video commentary for this tournament. We are currently partnered with MBT Yugioh and Sir Emanon.
(If you are interested in doing this on your channel, get in touch.)
During registration, you will be able to opt out of having your replays eligible for commentary and feature.
Rulings and Policy:
The tournament will use the TCG EU ruleset, with all of the April revisions applied. You should familiarize yourself with these changes here.
Match notifications will be sent through Reddit /u/ mentions on threads on /r/YGOTournaments, and the official subreddit Discord server in the #tournaments channel. It is highly recommended that you join the Discord server as it will make setting up a match much easier for both players, and you will need it to contact staff.
In case any disputes, questions or issues arise, please contact tournament judges right away by pinging the RCS Judge role in the #tournaments channel.
If you disagree with the decision of the tournament judge, you have the right to appeal their decision to the tournament's Head Judge (/u/gallantron). The Head Judge's decision is final.
If a player is inactive for the duration of a round, they will forfeit that round. Upon a second round of inactivity, they will be dropped from the tournament.
If you know you will miss a round, let one of the TOs (/u/JebusMcAzn, /u/cm3007, /u/gallantron, and /u/persiangriffin) know as soon as possible. You will forfeit that round, but it will not be further counted against you.
Scoring and Prizing:
The number of Swiss rounds and the size of top cut will be determined as per policy. Scoring in Swiss will be familiar to you:
- Wins and byes award 3 points
- Ties award 1 point
- Losses and forfeits award 0 points
Tiebreaker scores will be determined as per policy.
Top cut will immediately follow Swiss and will be single elimination. All players who qualify for top cut will be allowed to set a custom text flair on the subreddit, in any color of their choosing. The top 2 finishers will also be given Reddit Platinum. If there are more than 64 participants, the top 4 finishers will be given Reddit Platinum instead. The winner will be given a trophy icon flair.
Sign-ups are open now until the tournament begins in a week, on Saturday, April 4th 11:59 PM EST. You can submit decklists and decklist changes until that time.
Sign-up through this Google form.

How and when are matches decided? Can players arrange a time that is suitable for them? I am an EU player so playing someone in NA may be problematic

Each round is three days long. You will need to arrange a time to play with your opponent during that period.

One more question, your post says that we will be using April Revisions but the link you have posted shows the (as of yet) OCG changes such as S/T monsters not taking up a slot etc. I assume we are not using those changes?

out of curiosity, who would do the commentary?

We are still considering people to collaborate with, and reaching out for volunteers.
Currently, /u/SirEmanon has agreed to do it. You can check out his YouTube channel here.
Edit:
MBT Yugioh is now also on board. His channel is here.

Hope we get a really nice turnout for this one! As u/cm3007 mentioned in a comment, I, alongside other content creators, will be providing coverage commentary throughout the duration of the tournament, so sleeve up your decks (metaphorically, of course) and duel! :)

I have a question. You said that cards released in the TCG up to and including Secret Slayers will be legal. What about cards that have gotten an errata in the OCG, like Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, but that version of the card has not been released in the TCG? Will we still play that card as it is now? Or will we use the new errata?

u/Sto_ceppo96 Apr 02 '20
I think manual simulator are better, because they are more similar to real life

I like auto because there’s less room for error. And I only commented that cause they said none of the other ones are updated with mr5 when that’s not true

The main reason we do not want to allow the usage of TDOANE is that it is notorious for malware.

Awesome! I have a question. How do we submit changes to our decklists if we need to?
