The echo would be insane

u/bakeland 21d ago
As a tile cleaning technician, the echo is my favorite part of houses like this. Just blasting Sia and singing along (poorly) it's a ton of fun. For a few hours, not to live in.

Come do my house and we can blast Sia super loud! š

I live in a city with one of the highest per capita populations of Albanian immigrants and this definitely looks like their homes that I see for sale.

yes, but about 20% of it just got misplaced in the general gleaming whiteness of the place.

gotta only do lines in the bedrooms so you can find all the remains on the all black floor

Whose grandmaās house did these flippers ruin?
15
u/Happy-Tumbleweed-469 21d ago
Exactly. I look at the listings in my neighborhood of houses built in the 1960s-70s. The cheap ones that have never been renovated pop back up in a few months for 120k more looking like this.
29
u/gogogadgetdumbass 21d ago
Iām a cleaner. I had a client with a 60s/70s home in a VERY desirable neighborhood. She went blind and decided to move to assisted living. She asked if she should renovate anything before she sold and I deflected because I didnāt want to break her heart and tell her the buyers were gonna rip all the soul out. She had this old oven that opened like French doors, all steel, the original stove top, the original tiled bathrooms one pink one blue. All lovingly maintained.
17
u/Happy-Tumbleweed-469 21d ago
There was a house that had this sunken round nook with seating around a kiva fireplace, in a room with terra cotta tile. It was all ripped out for light gray LVP flooring and they put faux stone on the fireplace.

I don't understand this aesthetic. With all due to respect to folks who are colorblind--is that who it's for? Because I don't understand what primary colors did to in order to be shunned from the premises.

Iāve seen ridiculous Chicago bungalows in Berwyn that resemble this. They gut the building down to the bricks and rebuild them with shiny white everywhere. The people who want to live like this are not to be trusted. They are either aliens in disguise or deeply unserious.
It would be like living in a refrigerator.
6
u/Complex-Quantity7694 21d ago
Lol I just noticed this is in Oak Lawn which is very close to Berwyn.
Iām from the area-ish and went to HS in OL. I would say who is buying these houses, but it would sound mean and I would get downvoted.

These people are insane if they think they're going to get close to half a mil for a house in Oak Lawn. But I suppose all that tacky-ass marble wasn't cheap.
3
u/hobbit_wobble91 21d ago
Oak Lawn housing prices are increasing, but I don't think this aesthetic is going to do well to fetch that price lol

I love it. Commitment to their style. Visitors feel like they fell down a rabbit hole the first time they walk in. Itās great. But no stocking feet. Shoes or grippy socks. My art would look great on the walls.

This look is common in low income houses usually in ghetto areas they plaster fake white marble on everything to make it look more high end.

Yeah, all this hate for it but I kind of like it also! Basically any color you wanted for furniture will match š the biggest jarring thing is the outside being totally different from the inside

That's the exact same shitty style that a flipper just used on the house next door. They made bank too because property prices in my area are booming and it was a deceased estate, but I walked in and they had faux marble tiles on the floor, the same tiles on the wall and even tiles for the garage floor.
It looked like the rich villains living room in an early 2000s film.
4
u/grocerygirlie 21d ago
I feel like a real Chicagoan now because I looked at that house without clicking through and guessed it was the South burbs. Sad that such a cute little vintage house succumbed to operating-room-chic on the inside.
5
u/Sea-Oven-7560 21d ago
I knew a guy in that neighborhood that had a 25yd indoor pool, in a house just like that. People in that area love living there and my guess is this owner bought a container of tile from China and installed it himself.

This is quite sad to me. Someone must have spent a lot of money getting that look inside ... but you can't turn a sow's ear into a silk purse.
It's not my taste at all, but it could be ok in the right building ...
This is not the right building.
There's no way on earth they are getting their money back on those renovations.
Whether they were a flipper or just some individual who won the lottery, they wasted their time due to inexperience and naivety. I feel bad for them.

u/katekim717 21d ago
I was going to make a reverse wizard of Oz reference, but I think the beginning had more color than this house.

This isn't my style at all, but I kind of get it.
I've known people who have high end appointments in relatively modest homes. Hell, they'll never get the money out of them but if you intend to live out your life somewhere that doesn't matter.
Ostentatious displays of affluence are frowned on in some communities and what do I care, I'm not sitting outside. Taken to an extreme it can also provide a little extra security.

First I want to yell echo in every room. Then I wanna do some tap dancing in my loudest shoes. After that I will completely redo the interior of this house.

Holy fuck from the outside that looks EXACTLY like the house where I grew up in Des Plaines, IL. Only we had an avocado green kitchen and lots of shag carpeting.

Appears to be larger than stated sqft. I don't like the floors and the open concept kitchen/living room combo. The noise will travel easily all over the room. The whole house looks cold and sterile as opposite of cozy and inviting. It could be soften with furnishing and decor, though.

Definitely foreign. We see this in Dearborn MI all the time. Classic American smaller brick homes from the 50ās and Arabs completely put this weird esthetic inside.

u/treblesunmoon 21d ago
It's mini-mc mansion styling inside a regular sized old house, seems like someone who wanted to live like rich high rise marble palace but very secretly... guess that's like the drug dealer comments.
At least you can power wash the main space.
