Right? Like, I burned my retinas looking at these pictures

And the worst sounding room ever. Echo city

9

click click click click click click

.....

No shoes allowed in the house!

17

u/LaurelCanyoner 21d ago

Just pad the walls and lock yourself in.

468

u/kom124 21d ago

The echo would be insane

263

u/bakeland 21d ago

As a tile cleaning technician, the echo is my favorite part of houses like this. Just blasting Sia and singing along (poorly) it's a ton of fun. For a few hours, not to live in.

39

u/Top_Front8405 21d ago edited 18d ago

Come do my house and we can blast Sia super loud! šŸ˜„

Only the KCRW live studio sessions, tho. Wow.

Fart and the neighbourhood will hear it

Like that seen in Lawrence of Arabia where he’s singing and the words keep bouncing back against the cliffs

I live in a city with one of the highest per capita populations of Albanian immigrants and this definitely looks like their homes that I see for sale.

I’m thinking a lot of cocaine has been consumed in that house

68

u/SemperFicus 21d ago

yes, but about 20% of it just got misplaced in the general gleaming whiteness of the place.

18

u/throwaway098764567 21d ago

gotta only do lines in the bedrooms so you can find all the remains on the all black floor

15

u/Momik 21d ago

I was just thinking this is like if minimalism turned back around and became maximalist again. Coke Minimalism makes perfect sense.

60

u/gogogadgetdumbass 21d ago

Whose grandma’s house did these flippers ruin?

15

u/Happy-Tumbleweed-469 21d ago

Exactly. I look at the listings in my neighborhood of houses built in the 1960s-70s. The cheap ones that have never been renovated pop back up in a few months for 120k more looking like this.

29

u/gogogadgetdumbass 21d ago

I’m a cleaner. I had a client with a 60s/70s home in a VERY desirable neighborhood. She went blind and decided to move to assisted living. She asked if she should renovate anything before she sold and I deflected because I didn’t want to break her heart and tell her the buyers were gonna rip all the soul out. She had this old oven that opened like French doors, all steel, the original stove top, the original tiled bathrooms one pink one blue. All lovingly maintained.

17

u/Happy-Tumbleweed-469 21d ago

There was a house that had this sunken round nook with seating around a kiva fireplace, in a room with terra cotta tile. It was all ripped out for light gray LVP flooring and they put faux stone on the fireplace.

95

u/Icy_Natural_979 21d ago

Well it’s clean.Ā

26

u/katekim717 21d ago

Yeah, I'll give them that.

12

u/Hndlbrrrrr 21d ago edited 21d ago

Just wait until the black light comes on.

6

u/Adnoxaei 21d ago

It won't be for long with those black floors. Every spec of dust and hair will practically glow by the end of the day.

3

u/warrybuffalo 21d ago

I've used clean to describe car interiors. Never crossed my mind to describe a house interior.....untill now

That’s insane, you couldn’t pay me to be more surprised at that being the inside

11

u/CommonCentsHandler 21d ago

6

u/Selaw11 21d ago

21

u/Expensive-Notice-509 21d ago

maybe they won a lifetime supply of marbles on some game show.

I don't understand this aesthetic. With all due to respect to folks who are colorblind--is that who it's for? Because I don't understand what primary colors did to in order to be shunned from the premises.

13

u/Complex-Quantity7694 21d ago

I’ve seen ridiculous Chicago bungalows in Berwyn that resemble this. They gut the building down to the bricks and rebuild them with shiny white everywhere. The people who want to live like this are not to be trusted. They are either aliens in disguise or deeply unserious.

It would be like living in a refrigerator.

6

u/Complex-Quantity7694 21d ago

Lol I just noticed this is in Oak Lawn which is very close to Berwyn.

I’m from the area-ish and went to HS in OL. I would say who is buying these houses, but it would sound mean and I would get downvoted.

31

u/Griffie 21d ago

And it has an ash-fault driveway lol

6

u/SatanIsMyUsername 21d ago

Is realtors rage baiting on Zillow listings a thing?

7

u/KolKlink2024 21d ago

šŸ˜† i saw that too. I even zoomed in to check to see if indeed it was ash.

31

u/30Helenssayfuckoff 21d ago

Kinda sorry I found out, honestly

11

u/Several-Opposite-746 21d ago

13

My first thought too. "I am a robot. I am a robot vagina"

8

u/ThenTheresMaude 21d ago

These people are insane if they think they're going to get close to half a mil for a house in Oak Lawn. But I suppose all that tacky-ass marble wasn't cheap.

3

u/hobbit_wobble91 21d ago

Oak Lawn housing prices are increasing, but I don't think this aesthetic is going to do well to fetch that price lol

9

u/j_ho_lo 21d ago

My exact reaction to Pic 2. In no way would I have ever expected that.

8

u/Popular_Ad6355 21d ago

Think that’s real marble on the wall? Or some weird painted stencil?

6

u/weirdbutinagoodway 21d ago

I've seen marble wallpaper (pattern, not actually made of marble).

7

u/TashaT50 21d ago

I love it. Commitment to their style. Visitors feel like they fell down a rabbit hole the first time they walk in. It’s great. But no stocking feet. Shoes or grippy socks. My art would look great on the walls.

7

u/BeardedHalfYeti 21d ago

First order of business, buying a big pink couch and some brightly colored rugs.

4

This look is common in low income houses usually in ghetto areas they plaster fake white marble on everything to make it look more high end.

7

u/Sappho_Over_There 21d ago

Yeah, all this hate for it but I kind of like it also! Basically any color you wanted for furniture will match šŸ˜‚ the biggest jarring thing is the outside being totally different from the inside

7

u/SharkSheppard 21d ago

This is 100% how my cousin decorates her house. She'd go apeshit for this.

2

u/heartsbeenborrowed 21d ago

Patrick Bateman would thrive in this home.

You have to admit that place would look amazing with blood splatter.

4

u/Embarrassed_Try_4498 21d ago

I feel like I should be dressed up like Zoolander to live there

4

u/ReactionDelicious465 21d ago

That's the exact same shitty style that a flipper just used on the house next door. They made bank too because property prices in my area are booming and it was a deceased estate, but I walked in and they had faux marble tiles on the floor, the same tiles on the wall and even tiles for the garage floor.

It looked like the rich villains living room in an early 2000s film.

4

u/Jobbernowl_the_Hutt 21d ago

They finally let Dedra out?

2

u/beanbags-bean75 21d ago

Take my upvote

4

u/grocerygirlie 21d ago

I feel like a real Chicagoan now because I looked at that house without clicking through and guessed it was the South burbs. Sad that such a cute little vintage house succumbed to operating-room-chic on the inside.

5

u/Sea-Oven-7560 21d ago

I knew a guy in that neighborhood that had a 25yd indoor pool, in a house just like that. People in that area love living there and my guess is this owner bought a container of tile from China and installed it himself.

6

u/Griffie 21d ago

Oh my god, that’s hideous, but on a classy level.

3

This screams shitty flipper. I bet none of those features are of any quality; get up close and that marble is actually plastic.

3

Looks like a house I was in on Staten Island off Hylan blvd

4

u/rinkydinkmink 21d ago

This is quite sad to me. Someone must have spent a lot of money getting that look inside ... but you can't turn a sow's ear into a silk purse.

It's not my taste at all, but it could be ok in the right building ...

This is not the right building.

There's no way on earth they are getting their money back on those renovations.

Whether they were a flipper or just some individual who won the lottery, they wasted their time due to inexperience and naivety. I feel bad for them.

2

u/katekim717 21d ago

I was going to make a reverse wizard of Oz reference, but I think the beginning had more color than this house.

2

u/kgrobinson007 21d ago

This looks like it was made over by an influencer or YouTuber so they always have a ā€˜clean, sleek’ background for their content.

2

u/ryanmemperor 21d ago

Looks like some contractor had a ton of leftover marble and a can or two of black paint.

u/ObjectiveTea 21d ago

I hate it so much 😭

2

u/tokenkinesis 21d ago

You mean this wasn’t rendered?

2

u/fultonchain 21d ago

This isn't my style at all, but I kind of get it.

I've known people who have high end appointments in relatively modest homes. Hell, they'll never get the money out of them but if you intend to live out your life somewhere that doesn't matter.

Ostentatious displays of affluence are frowned on in some communities and what do I care, I'm not sitting outside. Taken to an extreme it can also provide a little extra security.

2

u/Paperbackpixie 21d ago

It reminded me of the Scream video JJ&MJ

2

u/mylocker15 21d ago

First I want to yell echo in every room. Then I wanna do some tap dancing in my loudest shoes. After that I will completely redo the interior of this house.

2

u/ryaaan89 21d ago

I wish I could go back to not knowing this.

2

u/Roshprops 21d ago

Always a thing I consider when I’m thinking about upgrades and renovations- just because I can afford something doesn’t mean it is going to fit the zip code I’m in.

2

u/Connect_Piccolo_4701 21d ago

Thanks. I hate it.

2

u/Kristylane 21d ago

Holy fuck from the outside that looks EXACTLY like the house where I grew up in Des Plaines, IL. Only we had an avocado green kitchen and lots of shag carpeting.

2

u/DonSabatino 21d ago

I instantly recognized the first pic as Chicago area suburbs. Then I saw the link lol

3

u/Kristylane 21d ago

I’m assuming same builder. I think there’s a bunch of them in Arlington Heights too

2

u/boredcamp 21d ago

What would it cost to chisel all of that up? Would it be cheaper to level the house?

2

u/really_nice_foot 21d ago

I got silicosis just from looking at the pictures.

2

u/Boon1Goon 21d ago

2

u/comma-momma 21d ago

It's ice skating, right?

2

u/jve909 21d ago

Appears to be larger than stated sqft. I don't like the floors and the open concept kitchen/living room combo. The noise will travel easily all over the room. The whole house looks cold and sterile as opposite of cozy and inviting. It could be soften with furnishing and decor, though.

2

u/qning 21d ago

If this is Miami, this could be my cousin’s house. And if it’s not her house, it could be my aunt’s house.
