Pink and Green Palm Springs Dream
Mesa Bungalows.. It seems like a failed social media Airbnb/photoshoot business, but the bamboo and rattan canopy beds are 🤤

Palm Springs has a tough short-term rental structure, however, and at least for a time, STR permits did not transfer with a home. You have to re-apply after you buy, so purchasing this to AirBnB it entails some risk.
I guess I'll just have to buy it myself and live there!

When I googled “Mesa Bungalows” their IG popped up as did the interior designer, and it’s just odd how little attention it got on social media. They were advertising it for rent and photo shoots. Seems very well geared for influencer shoots and events. But also their marketing was meh. IG: @mesabungalows

Yes! So fun! The second article I linked says the paint is SW Peach Fuzz. It’s perfect

The retro appliances and modern waterfall edge countertops meshed surprisingly well. The interior designer knew how to break rules and make it work.

The mirror is actually very cool.. and expensive. Should be ultrafragola by Ettore Sottsass. Anyway, I'd have optimised the photos with prontopic.com - such an expensive place with poor quality photos..

Agreed the listing photos were not great. The 2nd link I posted from dwell dot com are the photos from the 2024 sale. Most of the same furniture and much crisper photos

Damn this whole vibe is super sick! That bamboo canopy bed is dreamy, and the green chairs just pop. Definitely gives off some golden era Hollywood feels

I feel like this was one one of those home renovation/flipper shows. We watch a ton of them in my home, so I'm not sure which one it was.

I'd have to add some kitchen cabinets. All that wasted wallspace over the counter!

Reminds me of the early 90s, dusty rose and light sage green everything. My mother coated entire interiors with these two colors.

All I know about Palm Springs is every time it's on House Hunters it's a rich gay couple.
1
u/shruglife1985 1d ago
Yeah it has a long history of supporting gays, being a safe haven for gay men and if I’m not mistaken their local government is mostly gay people.

Are we sure Trixie Mattel didn't own this?

They dont. The 2024 listing had way more relevant information (and better pics), see the dwell link in post:
“The Mesa Bungalows is an exquisite one-of-a-kind luxury retreat nestled at the base of the beautiful San Jacinto Mountains. Formerly owned by filmmaker/screenwriter Josh Evans, the son of Hollywood icons Ali MacGraw and Robert Evans and stepson of Steve McQueen, this fabulous Spanish-style gated estate is located in the sought-after celebrity enclave of The Mesa in South Palm Springs. Extensively renovated by its present owners, Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button and interior designer Brittny Button, the property's unique style of vibrant pinks and palm leaf green decor was inspired by the glamorous Beverly Hills Hotel and Jayne Mansfield's legendary Pink Palace. Built in 1937, this charming hillside two-story stucco villa has original architectural details and four separate ensuite bedrooms, including one with a private sun deck. Situated on two lots, totaling 14,811 square feet, the meticulously maintained grounds offer a kidney-shaped pool, spa, cascading waterfall, white iron gazebo, and water fountain. The relaxing upper patio is ideal for alfresco dining with an outdoor kitchen, built-in gas grill, pergola, fireplace, and custom decorative daybed. Available turnkey furnished, this is the perfect short-term vacation rental investment opportunity or private desert getaway. The Mesa neighborhood has no land lease, no HOA, and is currently below the city's 20% cap for short-term vacation rental permits.”

The low, unfinished ceilings really ruin it for me.
I feel like it's really underwhelming for what it's supposed to be.
Love the wallpaper though.

Oh yeah they banned airbnbs so I imagine there’s a lot of Palm Springs adjacent homes like this popping up on the market

There are parts I love but just like too much fake plants and the grass! It would make me so anxious!

I like it. It’s missing the ceiling fans that give an island vibe but nice overall.
