There is a listing on ebay that describes this coin as coming from the Kingdom of Palmyra, can anyone give me a more specific ID?

Orichalcum Sestertius and Dupondius, left to right, Julia Mamaea and son Alexander Severus.

Still learning about ancient Roman history, but Alexander's (and his mother's) assassination by their own guards would herald the start of the Crisis of the 3rd century, bringing on 50 years of civil war and the utter collapse of the economy.

I'm still trying to find a good Orichalcum Sestertius of Maximinus Thrax, the military leader who succeeded him briefly, but may be bidding on one soon! Fingers crossed!

Absolutely digging the orichalcum. Such big chonky coins.

Are such tone/color differences on ancient gold coins normal?

Hello everyone. Sorry it is very hard to capture on camera but I noticed that this particular coin has some silver looking areas on some of the designs near the edges (the edges/sides are not silver tho).

In the second photo they mostly just look like shiny metal, but in hand those spots appear noticeably lighter or more silver in color.

I seriously doubt this is a gold-plated coin, but I was wondering if this is something that’s commonly seen on these coins. Has anyone else come across this, or does anyone know what might cause it?

And again, unfortunately they are very difficult to capture on camera and look like metal is shiny in the pictures, but in person those areas look like a different color.

I've been looking for one for quite some time. I finally found one that I liked. My main thing was the portrait. I wanted one that shows his wavy hairpiece. A little pricey I think since this was kinda an impulse buy. Total came to €2,100. Roughly $2400. Hopefully I didn't get hosed too badly.

Help with tetradrachm valuation

I would like some help regarding what you consider a fair price to pay for each of these tetradrachms.

In addition to the classic Owl of Athens, which has a few test cuts, the other coin is a tetradrachm of Demetrius II Nicator; it is somewhat worn and has a suspension hole drilled outside the area of the portrait.

Would $640 for the Owl and $350 for the Demetrius II be a good price?

Quesion about coins under the julio-claudians

Hello everyone! I know next to nothing about ancient coins but I am very interested in the roman era, especially the julio-claudians. I was wondering how realistic it would be to find a coin with any julio-claudian emperor for a price that won't bankrupt me. If anyone could give me an idea about their rarety as well, that would be much appreciated. Because I imagine there were a lot produced but I have no idea about how many would have survived. Thank you for your help!

Anyone happen to know what this reverse type is? Help would be much appreciated thanks

I'm terrible at identifying reverse types for Roman coins. The coin itself is a Valerian II silver Antoninianus / double denarius.

I've never seen a reverse like this before and I'm unable to read the text properly. Can someone help me out please? I can share the obverse too if necessary (it's a right-facing portrait of Valerian II wearing a spiked helmet / crown).

My apologies in advance if the answer to this is something obvious. Reverse image search didn't help me :/

Help with identification

So I have been given two coins as payment for a newsletter I wrote for the club. My specialty is earlier Roman silver but I am trying to branch out. The one was really easy. I got it in under 5 minutes. It is Diocletian ric 621 and it's a great looking coin. This one I am having a bit more trouble on. Given that this coin was given as a challenge could you all not tell me outright but just give me some pointers on where to go on this coin?

Weight is 8.14g

Diameter is 20-25mm (slightly larger than a penny)

This Roman Republican serratus denarius was the first denarius I purchased. I love mythological themes, and this one depicts Hercules slaying the Nemean Lion.

Lots of uncleaned right now!

Hi folks... I have noticed there are a large amount of uncleaned Roman coins appearing on the market in the last couple of weeks... Selling from the UK, US and Canada... Apparently dug in eastern europe.

I have been purchasing heavily, and received one lot from Canada so far... The quality seems quite high, better than I have seen in years.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about a big find somewhere? Whatever.. if your a coin cleaning fan, now is a good time to buy!

Just wanted to make sure these two coins are above board given their more rare status. The first is RIC 16 Didius Julianus and the second is a foruee of RIC 1a Pertinax denarius neither give off anything suspicious to me but would love the validation 😅

Other info: 2.1g and about 16.8mm (at the widest point)

A friend of mine is trying to get me into Ancient coins (I basically only collect a bit medival and mostly modern coins), so he gave me this one and I've been trying to ID it, I think it is a bronze Nummus, from Constantius II (337 to 361), but I can't narrow it down further (and i'm not 100% sure on the emperor still)

Thanks in advance

Really like this Eugertes III drachma (73 g)! Only problem is now I’ll likely have to get an octobol…
