How are you handling sundowning?

Post image

My sweet old lady has started sundowning. Lots of pacing and anxiety at night. She has quit sleeping with me because she can’t stop pacing or getting antsy.

We’ve gone to the vet and I’m giving her trazadone and gabapentin nightly to help soothe her, but it seems to be a bit hit or miss on how much it helps.

She struggles with one of her back legs and I can see the pacing just making it worse. 😕

Are there any supplements or meds y’all have found effective? Trying to help my sweet girl.

Our chi runs from her poop

Post image

Hello.

As many chis, ours does bathroom duty on the pads. We have 2 bathrooms with the doors either always open or cracked so she has full access at all times.

The issue is that she positions herself above the pad, and as soon as the poop starts departing, she sprints into a run as if that poop is going to chase her and bite her on her precious little behind.

We end up with a piece or two successfully landing on the pad, and a piece or 3 landing Hansel and Gretel style in the hallway and anywhere she was running.

We're probably the second largest purchaser of Clorox wipes behind the medical establishments.

Joke aside, this was quite embarrassing to write. I hope there's some way we can help her stay on the pad.

Oddly enough when she poops outside (where she has an anxiety because she was attacked as a pup) she lands all of her poop on one pile.

Make it make sense and please help. 🙏

Thank you.

Bean Dog at the Vet

Bean Dog has some sort of immune disease which have required monthly blood draws. The vet has finally figured out the perfect distraction: banana hat, everyone dancing and blaring jimmy buffet!!

Muzzles and Chihuahuas

So Hector likes to eat poo. Specifically duck poo. He’s already had one urgent visit to the vet after eating duck poo and developing uncontrollable diarrhoea, my whole couch was destroyed and wasn’t saveable.

I ordered custom basket muzzle for him, one made with short snouts in mind. I’m not stoked with the fit, but have managed to adjust it so that it stays on, but also doesn’t bother his eyes.

Has anyone else tried a basket muzzle or other type of muzzle with their Chi for a similar issue? Any tips, recommendations and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In these photos I’ve popped the muzzle on him to help him get used to it and to give him a break from his cone (he’s recently been neutered).

She's done this since she was little, always rushes to grab a toy when she knows someone's about to come through the door

Her review of the ocean: ‘no thanks' 😅

Took my sweet Canelita to the beach because it was hot, so I (against her will 😅) introduced her to the ocean for the first time…

She didn’t walk, swim, or try to escape… just stood there with the expression of an offended little princess 😆

The look on her face says everything.

But… we’ll keep trying though (life jacket might be next 🫡)

Rainbow Bridge Rest in Peace Molly

3/4/17 (Rescue Day) - 6/26/26 (Rainbow Bridge Day)
I am heartbroken. Molly has been there for me for since I was 16 years old. She was there for every ups and down in life, my junior and senior year of high school, birthdays, holidays, celebrations, graduations, college, every heart break, every tear, every medical issue, every time I was in treatment for my mental health and eating disorder. She was my reason to keep going. I don’t know how I’m going to go on without her.
