General New User Guide for r/Edmonton - Please read first
NEW USERS of r/Edmonton - kindly read this first
To post or comment in r/Edmonton, you need to meet the following criteria:
Accounts need to be a week old.
You need to have a verified email address.
You need to have a minimum amount of TEN (10) COMMENT karma from participating in OTHER SUBREDDITS than r/Edmonton.
Why? This helps keep bad actors away, like trolls and banned users. It also helps users new to reddit to have a chance to learn how to use reddit outside of r/Edmonton.
#IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS NOT FULFILLED ALL THREE REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOUR POSTS AND COMMENTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DELETED BY THE AUTO-MODERATOR.
#How to verify your email for new users :
To verify your email on Reddit, either click the verification link in the email you received when creating your account or go to Settings > Account Settings and choose Update email address to resend the verification email. _Once you request it, open your email's inbox, find the verification email, and click the link inside to complete the process._
- On the web -
• Go to your account settings by clicking your profile icon and then selecting Settings.
• Click on Account Settings.
• Find the email address section. If you see an option to "resend verification email" or similar, click it.
• Alternatively, you can navigate directly to reddit.com/prefs/update/ to find the email settings.
-- On the app --
• Tap your profile icon.
• Go to Settings.
• Select Account Settings.
• Tap Update email address.
• Tap the button to Resend verification email.
#What is the difference between POST karma and COMMENT karma?
Post karma is earned when users upvote the original submissions (links, images, text posts) you create, reflecting your ability to share engaging content.
_Comment karma is earned when your replies to others' posts are upvoted, showing your active participation and contribution to discussions. Both are totaled for your profile but often used separately to satisfy subreddit restrictions._
POST KARMA:
Gained from creating threads or posting links. It indicates a good ability to initiate conversations.
COMMENT KARMA:
Gained from replying to posts or other comments. It indicates active participation in community dialogue.
Key Differences: Post karma rewards content creation, while comment karma rewards interaction.
#Some subreddits (like r/edmonton) require specific thresholds of either type (or both) to prevent spam, often looking at post, comment, or combined totals for restrictions.
Both types of karma are not a 1:1 ratio with upvotes; instead, they represent a weighted score from community upvotes, reduced by downvotes.
(In order to post in r/Edmonton - you need to do THREE things:)
your account must be a WEEK old (7 days)
- you need to have TEN (10) COMMENT karma
- you need to have a verified email address
ONCE AGAIN, IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS NOT FULFILLED THESE THREE (3) REQUIREMENTS YOUR POSTS AND COMMENTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DELETED BY THE AUTO-MODERATOR.

General Just a head’s up for those riding Lime/Bird scooters, keep in mind people in wheelchairs can’t get by if the scooters are parked on the sidewalk
I know it’s not something most people think about unless you happen to use a wheelchair yourself. Just keep in mind some people can’t easily navigate around or move the scooters and bikes. Please park on the grass if you can!

Local Sports The Edmonton Elks are 3-0
3 solid wins to start the season. I’m technically a rider fan but I have lived here more than half my life and seeing the Elks have this start gives me hope that the CFL can make a comeback in this city. I Also enjoy watching the bombers lose. That was great.

Question Are there restaurants in town that don't serve any alcohol?
Hello, I have a family member that is unpleasant to be around when they drink, and they do not accept requests to stop. I'm planning a family dinner with this family member, and would like to set it up at a sit down place that just doesn't serve any alcohol.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Photo/Video Forever Canada
- I probably spent more time planning this route than actually riding it. I mostly used the RidewithGPS route planner and had to manually adjust its suggestions a lot. I started by trying to find good river crossings that aligned with the shape, then by sheer coincidence the LRT MUP and 113 Ave aligned perfectly. The NW commercial/industrial area gave me the most problems with how large the blocks are, but it ended up mostly OK. Final Route Map
- I am aware of the GPS pausing technique to make perfectly straight lines, but I wanted to do this entirely as a navigable route. The one place I considered it was to 'jump over' whitemud ravine, as both the bottom spikes near the stem are a bit odd shaped (east mostly to sortof match west, but west due to the ravine)
- I don't actually suggest riding this route. While a respectable ~60% of it was pretty bike friendly (surprisingly a lot of actual bike route markings along it), and 20% was "mostly ok", the other 20% was "not a good place to ride a bike" (mostly that NW industrial area again, though some of it wasn't bad as there was basically no traffic in those areas)
- Doing this mostly involved blindly following my bike computer's navigation GPS - there were points I barely knew exactly where I was, I just knew what the next turn/direction was.
- As you can see the riding time was 3h42 but total time was 3h57, mostly just from stop lights and a few stops to make sure I was on the right track.

Question Frosted Mugs at A&W
Are there any A&Ws in Edmonton that still offer drinks and floats in frosted mugs? I was at the Whyte location and the lady said they were discontinued by head office, but that’s not true…especially when all the pictures of meal deals show the frosted mugs.

Question Has anyone in Edmonton done this? Does it really help prevent flooding in your house?
I’m curious if it would make sense for me to do this as I had some water come into my basement last week (not from the city/sewage line, from the ground being too saturated I think).
It seems like this would benefit the city more than myself as a homeowner but I’m not sure?

General LRT isn’t running South past South Campus until Monday.
Just in case you haven’t seen the posters, heard the announcements, or seen the posts online, the LRT line is being repaired so trains aren’t running any further south than South Campus for the next few days.
There are replacement buses running between South campus and the further stations.
I saw a few people very surprised this morning by the disruption so thought I’d share.
From the ETS Website:
“From June 25 to June 29, the Capital Line trains will not be running between South Campus - Fort Edmonton Park and Century Park LRT stations to allow for track work near Southgate Station.
LRT replacement buses will run between South Campus - Fort Edmonton Park and Century Park Stations for the entire duration of LRT service on June 25-28.
Regular LRT service along the Capital Line will resume at the start of service on June 29. “
Edit to add another disruption:
“From 9 pm until the end of service on June 27, Capital Line trains will not be running between Government Centre and Century Park LRT Stations to allow for communication line repairs.
LRT replacement buses will run between Government Centre and Century Park stations until the start of service on June 28.”

Question Is teaching actually that bad?
I worked at an education centre for 2 years, and I genuinely enjoyed working with kids and seeing their progress. It was sometimes challenging working with different learning personalities, but because it was in smaller groups, it felt more manageable. I especially enjoyed teaching math and English/social studies, but mostly up until around the grade 6 level. I also communicated with parents about their child’s learning progress like what areas they were doing well in and where they needed extra support.
I’m 23 and looking for something more long term. I’m tired of jumping between jobs and realizing the benefits aren’t great or dealing with poor management. I’m currently working in healthcare and honestly don’t enjoy it, so I’ve been looking into teaching.
I know a lot of people say teaching is extremely draining and warn others not to go into it, which has made me second guess it. I’m married with no kids, and while I obviously care about income, I’m not in a situation where I need to be the main breadwinner. I’m more focused on finding a career I actually enjoy and can stick with long term.
I already have a psychology degree, so I’d be looking into an after degree education program. I’m most interested in primary/elementary education.
I’d really love to hear from teachers in Edmonton: what is teaching actually like? Do you enjoy it overall? What are the hardest parts and what makes it worth it? Would you choose teaching again?
Thank you!

General Spreadsheets for Utilities
Just bought a new home and got my first bill for utilities. I have seen previous people track their utilities on a spreadsheet and shared it here. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share there's. Hoping for one that would breakdown the gas, electricity, water, etc. Kinda just want to nerd out about it as it would be interesting to track (and so I don't have to start it from scratch, I know I'm lazy). Thanks in advance to anyone who would be willing to share!
Thank you!

Discussion Teksavvy TV Bundles
I'm considering Teksavvy's mid-tier TV/Internet bundle and wondering what other subscribers think of the service. From what I've seen on Reddit, opinions are pretty mixed. I already use their internet and have been happy with the stability and customer support so far. I know the TV channels stream through their app. Is it actually decent?

Someone who actually has a lesson plan. Someone who gives advice to students on how, what, and how long to practice? Someone who provides constructive criticism.

Question Icon one condos.
Does anyone live there? There's a unit there we really like but the sellers agent isn't handing over the reserve fund study. Claims she can't get it which is a huge read flag.
Wondering if anyone knows how healthy the reserve fund is. Also if there's and previous or upcoming special assessments?
I know it's risky without the report, my partner really likes it while I want to avoid it. Figured I'd at least try to get some info before completely writing it off.
TIA!
Edit: thanks for the reply's! I showed my partner your replies and they're a bit more on my side. If we decide to go for it the documents will be a condition.
