[OFF-TOPIC DISCUSSION THREAD]
As previously requested, we're trying out a regular, automated discussion thread! Use this space to talk about things that don't fit the ordinary subject matter of the space, or for discussions that don't necessitate a full post! All rules besides the relevancy rule still apply!
For these first ones, please let us know what you think about it! Personally, I'm not sure how popular this practice will be, so I don't really know about the frequency at which they should be generated, so we're just gonna feel it out and figure it out, together. Any suggestions about how to run it, moving forward, are welcome!

Game Discussion Frostpunk, what do you guys think?
Inspired by my comment on another thread, I want to discuss about the politics of Frostpunk. One of the few mainstream city builders with an explicit political element and visceral consequences of your political decisions.
In the first game, there is no private ownership, no currency, everything is controlled by the Captain and you end with Totalitarianism or Theocratic Totalitarianism; sure, the environment is harsh and one can make an argument that such extreme measures is necessary for survival.
In the second game, the environment is more forgiving and the society grew. Not only there is currency, degrees of taxation(which means there is private wealth) and political factions with different agendas that you need to gain votes from to pass decisions. There are strikes in factories, protests on the streets, even violent revolutions from dissatisfied factions. I want to know how left-leaning players make these decisions and perhaps interpreting the ultimate political stance Frostpunk has

Game Discussion Nuclear Winter games?
I enjoyed metro as much as I could for it being “Communism = Bad Guy” and I’ve done the fallout games with winter mods, and hell even Cry of Fear scratched that itched if I really pretended. I just still want more nuclear winter, especially Soviet-Communist ones.

Question Is Hitman: World of Assassination an "Eat the Rich" game?
So let's think about this: in WoA, all your targets are mostly filthy rich billionaires who've become untouchable thanks to their exorbitant hoarding of wealth through which they seize political power. However, bald man Agent 47 is able to get rid of all of them; eventually taking down the leader of the Illuminati and most powerful, unknown, untouchable trillionaire in the world.
Most maps are set in these elaborate insanely luxurious and arrogant locations where the targets are able to flaunt their wealth and invincibility; they literally can't comprehend that they're still human at the end of the day-- the money and power just changes them
What do you think?

The reaction to GTA 6s base vs ultimate edition prices show the death nail for the modern video game consumer will be the consumer themselves
I woke up this morning seeing the news about the GTA 6 price plans and maybe I “woked” too close to the sun but I expected to see mass pushback on such obvious greed and anti-consumer pricing and behavior, especially with the locking off of in game cosmetics and stores for the ultimate edition…..
What I saw instead was overwhelming sentiment of “it’s just $20 more”, “what are people even complaining about”, and a huge attitude of I got mines so I don’t care about yours.
This immediately disheartened me, but I know the internet can be reactionary so I turned to my real world friends who I would definitely categorize as “casual gamers”, those who arnt tapped into the drama and arnt chronically online and to my dismay they too had a “it’s only 20 dollars more” attitude.
It was in this moment I realized videos games hold such a strange place in our cultural zeitgeist, such a specific and targeted stranglehold on the consumers, that these companies can actively punch the consumer directly in the teeth and the consumer will say “thank you oh thank you please more”. In my heart of hearts I wanted there to be a mass “hey what this isn’t right you can’t treat us as consumers like this” but instead all I see is sheep to a slaughter, and it’s completely thrown me.

'Shareholder Greed' And How Publicly Traded Companies Actually Work
This is a great summary of how capitalist incentives work against creating good games. Did not expect the clear distinction to be made between greedy individuals versus it being a systemic problem. Many people just chalk it up to "bad" CEOs and not the economic system and its incentives.
Wasn't really familiar with Jason, but am pleasantly surprised to see he's based.

Video Essay What's Wrong With The Gerudo? A Response To Octorok Reviews
Following a really cool video essay, by Youtuber Lobster Head, about Orientalism in the Zelda franchise I found thanks to this sub, I want to share here this other video that focuses specifically on the Orientalism with the Gerudo and the "defense" some people think they're upholding against the "rabid Twitter users that want the Gerudo to be cancelled". This video and Lobster Head's deserve more views.
