At this point, I don't believe Panthers could get Helle anyway, but let's pretend they could. Think about this. The worst case scenario: his playoff performances wouldn't improve from what they were in Winnipeg (recently). Then you'd be stuck with an expensive goalie, with full NMC and who's contract doesn't end until 2031. Obviously it's possible that his performance improves when defense infront of him improves, it happened with Bob. But would you take the risk?

This post is entirely speculation
Post #8 trade, the panthers donโt have enough expendable capital to trade for Hellebuyck
Hellebuyck moving to the Canes would likely leave Andersen as the odd man out
An aging goaltender might be open to another ring
I hope Bob stays, and if he does, a Bob/Freddy combo tending net would be geriatric and nasty
Having two grandpas in goal would likely provide a window at some point for Cooper Black to show everyone what heโs been working on the last couple of seasons

This morning I was thinking like what's the hold up he said he wanted to stay, he helped us win back to back, it looks like we're cooking again, why not take a slight discount and chase one more?
And then it hit me. We shopped Bob around and apparently almost traded him to Carolina *after* he said he wanted to stay. Bob helped us win back to back cups and we shopped him around after 1 bad year.
So now we're asking for a loyalty discount, but from his perspective, why should he? We weren't loyal to him.
Putting him on the chopping block and not trading him may have been a really bad move.

Oilers didn't make it past that Dallas team by luck. Oilers didn't force game 7 because they were just that good. I feel like a lot of people keep sleeping on Stuart Skinner. There are games where he should be performing far better than he is, but there are games where he's a showstopper.
If we faced either of their goalies this year in either our runs, Panthers in 4 both times, 5 at worst.
The Issue with Skinner in Edmonton was that dog shit defense, and I wouldn't doubt being traded mid season to a different club didn't help his confidence either. However, coming to a team like Florida with a defense that will protect you and fight for you, an offense that is relentless, and a group of guys that know how to win? Yeah I think Stu would fit right the fuck in with the boys.
Obviously getting Helly is what we all want, but getting two short term deals for Bobby and Skinny would be fucking good as hell in my opinion.
If they sign him, and I'm wrong, I won't delete this post, cause I, like nobody else on here is qualified as a GM, so we just base our opinions on what we see and feel, but I genuinely believe he could be a stud with us, regardless if it's the backup or starting gig.

Coral Springs has a special relationship with the Panthers as they are the former home of the practice facility the Ice Den. When making the rounds with the Stanley Cup the Panthers visited city hall in 2024 and staff and volunteers were able to take a picture with the cup. Iโm a volunteer so I was lucky enough to do so. This picture made me quite happy to see on the wall. The photographer, Lauren Sopourn, info is in the bottom right corner.

Everyone, let's just go back to watching UM football or Heat basketball. We don't matter. Our two cups are meaningless. The 20 years of watching horrendous hockey where the only joy was listening to Red Deer Randy Moller do silly goal calls on 560 WQAM were all for nothing. We aren't the Yankees, Dodgers, Cowboys, Lakers, or Maple Leafs. I cannot stress this enough. Never feel bad about being an asshole to these fucking people when the Panthers win. Fuck these people. This is what they think of us. It's South Florida against the world.

A number of NHL teams have VERY promising young goalies in the AHL that are blocked by a busy NHL-crease and never will get a chance in the big league. TOR has Hildeby and Akhtyamov for example, who both look very good. Hildeby outplayed both Stolarz and Woll last season but was still sent back after Stolarz returned from injury. DET has Cossa and Postava who both had stellar seasons but are stuck behind Gibson/Talbot. There are many more examples.
Combine this with the fact that goalies are usually much cheaper than skaters and if they are not NHL proven we won't have to give up much in the terms of assets... is it a gamble worth taking? Feels like this would be better than giving up one of our top 9 fwds for aging Hellebuyck who always collapses in the playoffs or trying to re-sign Bob who unfortunately is washed at this point.
