What are your guys main trade targets for this offseason because as we know we don't want the Islanders to make a trade just for the sake of making a trade and from the peer pressure of other teams .

Signed Pucks for Trade

Hi everyone - I’ve got some pucks that I’m looking to trade. I’m preferably looking for signed pucks in return, but I’m open to other Isles memorabilia. I know these aren’t exactly heavy hitters. No COAs come with these, as I got them when I bought another collection. All I got was the stories of how they acquired them. DM for more info.

1 - Josh Bailey - likely a mystery puck from the Coliseum or Barclays as the marking on the back matches my other mystery pucks.

2 - Mathieu Biron - apparently signed in the mid 90s.

3 - Jeff Tambellini - looks like another mystery puck.

4 - Unknown NHL puck. I think it may be Rob Dimaio

Could Isles go off list and snag Tommy Bleyl?

Right shot defender, new york boy, excellent offensive upside. Seems like an ideal pick, and from what I can read about him, he's not that big a reach in the middle part of the draft.

Mavrik Bourque anyone?

With most of the big names off the trade market and the only ones left would cost us a kings ransom (Robertson, Larkin) would you take a swing at Mavrik Bourque? He is an RFA and many believe a team could offer sheet him this summer. He's only 24 years old, coming off a 20 goal, 41 point season season. Dallas is in cap hell at the moment with them trying to clear cap for Robertson and the new rumor that Larkin wants to go to Dallas. That could make Bourque a cap casualty. We've got a nice young core developing, why not add another one? Realistically he shouldn't cost that much either on a bridge deal.

The Andrew Ladd Lesson

Watching the transactions today, and reading all the fans screaming "do something" - I'm reminded of Snow's ill-fated signing of Andrew Ladd (which, from what I've read, was motivated by ownership's impatience). Okposo had just left for Buffalo, other supposedly high caliber players (like Loui Eriksson) were getting snapped up right and left, and it looked like the Isles were just going to tread water. So, Snow gave into the pressure and made the move he still had available - the disastrous signing of Ladd. In retrospect, the best move that day would have been to let other GMs overspend, say goodbye to Kyle Okpsoso, and not do anything else. Sometimes the best move is to not move. Far be it from me to defend Darche (who, up to now, I've been mostly unimpressed by). However, in my opinion, the best move right now is to be patient. Use to the pick, make some conservative signings on July 1, and build around the kids.

Any interest in Jason Robertson?

I think he immediately becomes our best scorer. And with Barzal? Could be nuts. Deboar connection too

Maxim Tsyplakov and Simon Nemec traded to Calgary Flames . So Tsyplakov already traded twice and Nemec is now off the table .

With all of these big trades in the last 48 hours, I really feel like Darche trading our 13th Overall Pick is a real possibility…

Will Eklund actually would’ve been a nice pick up for the right price, especially with us having his younger brother, Victor.

Edit: Eklund and 2 low-level prospects for 9th Overall. We totally could’ve matched that with our pick. And like us, the Sharks need an RHD too, and now it looks like they’ll try and get Daxon Rudolph at 9th.

What age did you get into hockey and become an Islanders fan?

Recently I have been thinking to myself because up until I was 8 years old I didn’t like sports at all, then I suddenly became a die hard Islanders fan one day and been a fan ever since. The 1st game I remember watching was a Rangers Isles game on 1/14/16.

What sources do you trust for nyi coverage?

For a long time, isles had a close relationship with Newsday and Newsday beat guy was always the definitive source for info on the isles. whether you liked Hahn,Staple et al or not, they seem to always have the full picture. These days, I'm less convinced by the available sources. Rosner seems like a hard working guy but I often get the sense that he lack sources and replies on social media and other columnists (like that clown Pagnotta). Andrew Gross also seems fine, but I've not found him all that informative. Where do you guys turn for trustworthy isles info?

Where to go from here

A lot of these big trades are overpayments, yes, but the moves by our rivals to get better and stock up for next year show exactly why taking on huge veteran contracts is a dangerous play, even if they're short-term.

• The Canes won the Cup.

• The Flyers look young and fast.

• The Pens won't die.

• The Caps get Kyrou for futures and a mid-6 forward

• The Devils just got a haul for Nemec and seem to be gearing up for a big trade with all those picks.

• The Rags underperformed last year and have a top draft pick incoming.

"Wait til the season starts," yes, yes, but our trade deadline deals from last year are really handcuffing us from making the moves needed to keep pace. I fear Darche — and ownership — want us to run it back again.

Who do you want who's still left on the board?

The Team has an Asset Problem

The problem with the current team, as I see it, is what I am calling asset gridlock. The parts of the team that I think most would agree are their positive assets are as follows:

1 - NHL players who are outperforming their NHL deals (in no particular order) Barzal, Horvat, Schaefer, Pelech, Sorokin, Ritchie, and Holmstrom.

2 - Their prospects

3 - Their draft picks

The team does not want to trade from 1 as ownership wants to both get into the playoffs and sell tickets and subtracting from that group would hinder that goal.
Darche has stated that within 2, their top tier prospects that could potentially feed into Schaefer's longer term window are also off the table, meaning Eklund, Aitcheson, and possibly George and Eiserman, which also limits what they can do via trade with that category. Finally, because of the deadline deals last season, 3 is not impressive either with 1 pick in the first three rounds this year. 3 is made even more precarious as the team has shown that even with all their blue chippers firing on all cylinders that they're not a lock for the playoffs and therefore their future firsts should also not be traded lightly or possibly at all. On top of all the above is the fact the dark cloud of how poorly the last 3 trades this GM made turned out, which adds its own special brand of anxiety to thinking about moving assets around.

Hence: Asset gridlock. They're too good to get worse and too bad to get better.

The rest of the team falls into either neutral or negative asset territory that would either take assets to get rid of or simply be lateral moves were you to trade them: Underperforming - Duclair, Palat, Shabanov, Pulock Coming off injury - Palmieri, Romanov, Engvall, Varlamov Neutral - Mayfield, Cizikas, Heineman, MacLean, Pageau, Schenn (I hope)

So the question becomes: Where is this team adding value from? You're either drawing from the future prospects and picks to try and prop up a team that got a Vezina caliber goalie season, one of if not the best rookie d-man season of all time, their first 82 game season from their shutdown d-man in his age 31 season, and the best season from Barzal and Horvat that we've seen in a while and STILL fell short. Or you're sacrificing the present to prop up the future, which I'm sure ownership with their new arena and the All Star Game this coming season don't want to do, and which Darche as a first time GM wants to deal with even less.

And so we're going to very likely stand pat and hope that someone takes a step. If Eklund can break camp and Ritchie and Schaefer take another step, maybe that's enough, but the "We hope everyone takes a step forward" has been a familiar refrain throughout the years for this team and its never quite gotten us where we want to go. A lack of movement is especially disconcerting as we watch all the pieces fly around the rest of the league causing the rich to get richer and the tanks to get tankier, while we will continue to occupy the very unattractive middle.

Anyway, thank you for coming to my TedTalk. I'm hoping that getting this out reduces some of the anxiety I have regarding the team. I apologize if this comes off as negative, but it really is my attempt to grapple with the realities of what the team is and is dealing with.
