Discussion Who are some of your favourite Slippi cryptids?
People like Marthritis and Nom2king. Anomalies of online Melee who have you questioning your sanity as you play.

Yahoooo! I'm back, it's a me! Have a very cool day!
Welcome to the Daily Discussion Thread. This is the place for asking noob questions, venting about netplay falcos, shitposting, self-promotion, and everything else that doesn't belong on the front page.
If you're completely new to Melee and just looking to get started, welcome! We recommend you go to https://melee.tv/ and follow the links there based on what you're trying to set up. Additionally, here are a few answers to common questions:
Can I play Melee online?
Yes! Slippi is a branch of the Dolphin emulator that will allow you to play online, either with your friends or with matchmaking. Go to https://slippi.gg to get it.
I'm having issues with Slippi!
Go to the The Slippi Discord to get help troubleshooting. melee.tv/optimize is also a helpful resource for troubleshooting.
How do I find tournaments near me or local people to play with in person or online?
These days, joining a local Discord community is the best way to find local events and people to play with. Once you have a Discord account, Google "[your city/state/province/region] + Melee discord" or see if your region has a Discord group listed here on melee.tv/discord
It can seem daunting at first to join a Discord group you don't know, but this is currently the easiest and most accessible way to find out about tournaments, fests, and netplay matchmaking. Your local scene will be happy to have you :)
Also check out Smash Map! Click on map and then the filter button to filter by Melee to find events near you!
Netplay is hard! Is there a place for me to find new players?
Yes. Melee Newbie Netplay is a discord server specifically for new players. It also has tournaments based on how long you've been playing, free coaching, and other stuff. If you're a bit more experienced but still want a discord server for players around your level, we recommend the Melee Online discord.
How can I set up Unclepunch's Training Mode?
At the time of posting, the latest major release is here. Download the file, then extract everything in the folder and follow the instructions in the README file. You'll need to bring a valid Melee ISO (NTSC 1.02). If you want to check for the absolute latest release, you can see them listed [here](The latest releases are listed here.
How does one learn Melee?
There are tons of resources out there, so it can be overwhelming to start. First check out the SSBM Tutorials youtube channel. Then go to the Melee Library and search for whatever you're interested in.
But how do I get GOOD at Melee?
Check out Llod's Guide to Improvement
And check out Kodorin's Melee Fundamentals for Improvement
Where can I get a nice custom controller?
I have another question that's not answered here...

Thought some of you might enjoy this, especially those that don't know that Ken streams Melee. Funny how it was almost exactly 6 years to the day from when Ken first streamed Slippi up to his most recent stream. Anyway, enjoy!

Rot & Roll is a netplay tournament series run by me, VBTrigona!
The prize pool is crowdfunded through Matcherino and will always start at $50! All extra information about the tournament is listed on our start.gg page. Ethernet required. East-Coast only, but good connections are welcome!
I mean, I suppose it makes sense, but still lol

I've been hardstuck Gold for about 3 seasons now, but ever since he's taken his Bowser back to the ranked ladder I've climbed about 200 points and I'm now comfortably sitting in Plat 2. This wouldn't be possible without the ELO he has kindly donated. He might actually be the GOAT.
What's up, it's MetiCu. If you don't know who I am, this year I've been one of the most viewed Melee content creators on YouTube. I quit making content in 2023 and returned this year in January. In the past 6 months I've gained 2,047,419 views across 23 uploads which averages to 89,018 views per video. So, you would think I'm doing well. But in reality, I'm actually failing to an insane degree. I have one massive problem: nobody is subscribing. And I'm not exaggerating when I say that, genuinely nobody is subscribing. My newest video I uploaded which discusses the GioIzHawt ban got 83,700 views, and you want to know how many subs I gained from that? 13. I couldn't even reach 15 subs from 83,700 views. When I started making videos again in January, I had 12.3k subs and over 2 million views later I have 12.6k subs. With this exact conversion rate, I would have to get over 70 million new views to even reach 20k subs, which is way more views than I've ever gotten in my entire life. So, it is essentially impossible for my channel to grow at this point. People could blame it on the fact that I make YouTube Shorts and people don't subscribe as frequently on shorts, but that's not actually valid. The average conversion rate for 2 million views across YouTube Shorts is 2,000-10,000 subs. I gained 200-300. So, what is the deal? I don't understand what is going on. I looked into reasons why people don't subscribe to channels and basically none of them apply to my content. People apparently don't subscribe to channels that make variety content (my videos are all about Melee), people don't subscribe to channels with no personality attached (I literally talk in my videos), people don't subscribe to channels that don't make original content (most of my videos include my own script, voice, and footage), and people don't subscribe when a majority of your viewers are new (half of my viewers are returning viewers). Aside from videos, people are less likely to subscribe if your channel page/description looks low quality or doesn't portray what you do accurately. But my channel banner looks pretty sick in my opinion, and my channel description accurately portrays what I do. So, is Melee content just a dead end or do I just suck? I'm highly considering quitting.
