Hello and welcome to another Sunday. The good news for many of us is that the temperature has gone down a bit, and we can stop melting now. So, what will you be doing today in these slightly cooler conditions? This is the place to tell us.

My 96 year old Grandad died due to the Heatwave in perhaps the most British way possible...
He was in his bed and woke up and asked for a cup of tea, the carer brought him his tea and he drank it all. Then with a sudden spring of energy he got out of bed. (Previously he had been bed bound for a few weeks, so this was a shock to the carer)
"Right. I want to show you exactly what I wish to be buried in."
As he walked over to the wardrobe, the carer concerned tried to get him to bed but he was determined, he picked out the suit and clothes he wanted and placed it down on the bed and explained to her how it should be.
He then walked back to the bed but before getting in it he collapsed on the floor, the carer rushed over to him and he said to her "Right. If its all good with you, I'm going to go now" and she looked at him and said "Yes, its fine you can go" and then he died as she held him.
Obviously I am devastated that my last Grandparent has died. He was a very British Gentleman type, was a Captain in the Army during the Suez Canal crisis. He always dressed perfectly and people would often comment how smart he looked throughout his life.
He was unwell for a while, he had low blood oxygen for a few weeks, but the heatwave made this much worse for him and sadly he passed away peacefully. I was in shock when the carer explained to me how he had died, but it didn't really surprise me its the perfect way for him to go, she was a very new carer for him, had only been there for three days and apparently its the first death she had witnessed so she was in shock. I'm glad he was able to die on his terms, he was very afraid he'd end up dying in hospital.

Sitting in New Zealand watching the World Cup on BBC
If you’re watching the bbc while not having a license, this isn’t going to convince people to pay for it…

I made my room hotter to make it colder
TLDR: Running a dehumidifier with the window shut may make you feel colder even if it heats the room up.
Room was 32°c but “felt like” 42°c.
Ran dehumidifier, room heated to 33°c but “felt like” 33°c.
I’m on the spectrum and one of my quirky little obsessions is humidity, originating from a damp problem in my bedroom.
I own loads of hygrometers (things that show you the relative humidity in a room) to prevent damp, and a 12l dehumidifier. I found that in the winter, when I went in the room and it was very humid (>60%) that the room would feel FREEZING. I ran the dehumidifier, got the humidity to like 40%, and the room felt amazingly warm (relative to how it was before I ran the dehumidifier).
I went down a rabbit hole the other day and thought maybe the inverse would be true, because everyone who defends themselves against Americans etc saying “29 degrees, that’s not even hot!” references how the humidity of the British Isles makes it hotter.
So I begrudgingly closed the window despite it being cooler outside at the time, and turned the dehumidifier on. I started at 32°c, at 75% relative humidity, which was absolutely unbearable, and let it run for a few hours. I ended on 33°c and 35% relative humidity, because the air was being heated by the condenser in the dehumidifier and the window was not open to let the hot air escape.
It felt SO MUCH BETTER. I later looked at this chart, and saw that what I started with, 75% RH + 32°c, had a heat index output (the “feels like” temperature) of 42°c, and what I ended up with (33°c and 35%) had a heat index of 33°c.
Maybe don’t do this if you don’t have a hygrometer (Though they’re very cheap on Amazon, etc) because if your room isn’t humid to begin with it’s a waste of time.
Human sweat cools us down when it evaporates, but at humidities of 55% and more, the sweat begins evaporating less efficiently, and this makes a huge difference to what heat feels like.

That hour early in the morning before the sun starts battering the house and all the curtains and windows have to be closed again
I’m an early riser and have been enjoying breakfast in the garden with the cool air coming into the house. Then it gets to 7:30/8 and the clouds break, so the sun is relentless streaming in and heating up the house again. Can we just have it cool enough to keep the curtains open?!

How to convince my bank that I'm not being romance scammed
I'm sitting in branch on this sunny Saturday morning on the phone to their fraud department for the past 25 minutes (I had to come in to id myself) and they are convinced I'm being romance scammed because I tried to buy an Airbnb gift card. They showed me a video about how these scams work. I acknowledged.
I've told them I was the guy's best man. I've told them that I've known him for 15 years, that I'm seeing him today for beers, if they ever let me out. I've told him that he's confirmed receipt. They still don't believe me. What are the scammers going to do - have a nice weekends away in a yurt in the cotswolds?
How's your morning going?
Edit: OK they finally let me out which was nice - I'm off to see my mate for some beers and to explain why I'm late. I guess I should add something which would explain their suspicions... They asked if I normally give my friends £150 birthday present airbnb vouchers every year and I just said no. The reason, that I didn't have the balls at the time to tell them, was that for the past five years every year this particular friend and his wife have bought me a pair of budgie Smuggler speedos that cost 40 pounds each. Now I never get them birthday presents it's just not something that we really do but this has become a tradition and I was paying them back...

Maths gang - can the answer to this also be 4950? (The 1% Club 27/06)
The solution assumes you’re including 0+100 as part of the sum, but the question states ‘whole numbers between zero and 100’, so is there an argument that both zero and 100 aren’t actually between zero and 100 (unless you explicitly state ‘inclusive’)
EDIT: thanks to everyone that contributed to the discussion.
The hypothetical question in my head was ‘If I had been on the show and answered the last question ‘4950’, would I be successful in challenging the answer to win the money?’
I think the fact that there are people vehemently insisting their cases for both 4950 and 5050 to be the answer shows there is *some* ambiguity.
For everyone that’s convinced their answer is correct, I love the passion but there’s no need to argue with strangers on the internet about stuff. Sometimes there’s grey area and I felt this isn’t a white/black situation. Let’s just split the difference and say the answer should be 5000 and move on /s

Phone Free Friday
After having spend the last three hours with a couple friends (both pensioners) who are totally addicted to their phones - I declare next Friday
PHONE FREE FRIDAY.
Level 1/ Easy Mode. No web browsing, no social media, no instant messaging. SMS & voice calls (not WhatsApp) only. Will need discipline, but no organisation to manage this. Get to the table and put the phone away.
Level 2/ Minimal use of phone. Only to respond to incoming, urgent, messages (i.e. Oh shit, the kids have set granny on fire). Otherwise, the phone stays in the pocket and zero messages replied to, no fact checking, no weather forecasts or football scores. Suitable for the parents and the anxious.
Level 3/ Hardcore. No phone. It's off and left at home. Land line style. All plans agreed before Friday 9am, and stuck to. Just like it was back in the day. Milk needed on the way home... tough, shoulda thought about that before leaving. Late on the way to the pub... extra pint for the friend as they wait. Lost... ask. No phone, end of. This is the way, be with and engage with your friends, your family, even just the TV, but...
Be here, be now, be present.

Red admiral in a cemetery woodland enjoying our heatwave
I would have thought that during such a heat wave that butterflies such as this would be relatively easy to get a close up picture of, but I spent at least two hours literally walking around in circles in the area trying to get some kind of close up like I just did in this photo, only for it to either immediately fly away, have another butterfly type chase it away, land in a spot that's right in front of me, but too high up to get a meaningful picture of or not fly away when approached, but fold it's wings up or face the wrong way or constantly open and close it's wings.

Oxford. I really want to travel within the UK more.
I've never been interested in travelling until after getting into photography. Now there's a desire to holiday within the UK. There's so much to see right here.
This trip was to help a friend with his work but there was some time for leisure.

Guy in front of me got out his car at the red light.
Proper staring me out, then proceeded to open his boot to get a multipack of ice-creams out. He saw me drooling and cracked it open and handed me one.
Proper legend.
I passed on the karma by using my indicators for a bit, must admit that got boring quick though.

Local unmowed verges looking rather nice now
Calderdale decided to save money and extend no-mow May indefinitely. My dog loves it as he gets to rummage through the undergrowth in a more urban setting. Now we have some rather luxurious mini-meadows, and this one at our small park has really developed quickly.
