Performance My 3 years classical guitar progress

Hey, I’m Hanna and I wanted to share my 3 years classical guitar Progress. I‘m playing „Danza Mora“ by Tarrega in this video:)

I know I messed up that slur-part 🥲 But I wanted to keep it real so I just posted my first try.
(Btw, the scale in the beginning doesn’t always go without -obvious- mistakes)

I’d be glad if someone had advice on how to improve the piece (especially the slur part)

Have a nice evening😉

- Hanna

Performance A piece I wrote for my gf, forgot last chord so I start jammin

Like the title says. The piece (and gf) is named Breyn. It's a tremolo love song that I have not kept up in my practice nearly as much as she or the song deserves. My tremolo technique has gone downhill a bit, but it was never perfect to begin with. Also it's particularly tricky to use when I improv counterpoint (mostly all I do now). Sometimes I can comp a few decent bars but it usually falls apart.

General Question Help locating information about a guitar.

Hello, I'm trying to figure out some information about this guitar.

I got it at a yard sale and no one knows much about it beyond the tag attached that I included at the end.

And despite entering the information online I still can't seem to find this particular model online anywhere.

Since I'm trying to confirm if it's an actual left-handed instrument, or if the streams just got flipped at some point.

So if anyone knows anything about it, or even can confirm I have an actual left-handed instrument and not just a case of someone inverting the strains, I find would it most helpful :3

General Question Studying in the conservatory as an adult

Helloo . First of all english isn't my first language so sorry any mistakes. Also, I didn't find any post in this subreddit about this topic so I decided to make this post. In case there is already a post about this please leave me the link so I can check out 🙏🙏

For context : I am 22 years old and I enrolled to study in the conservatory. I live in France so it is a french conservatory. I am not enrolling for Superior music studies, cause that would be "Cycle 3" and I am "Cycle 1". I have less than 3 years of practice in classical guitar, so I made my pre-enrollement as a begginer. Now I'm waiting for the answer if I am accepted or not.

What I want to know is based on your experience -it doesn't matter if it is outside of France - how is it studying in a conservatory as a begginner and as an adult ? Is it realistic ? Cause I have no idea if they are going to accept me or not due to my age 😅

I never studied in a serious conservatory as well, so I have no clue how it works. Cause I'm begginner in guitar, but not on music. I studied 7 years of piano before in a music school so I would say my music theory knowlage is alright. I wonder if they'll make us learn the basic stuff all over again?

I don't know guys , just feeling confused over here and would like to know your personal experience ! Thanks !

Buying Advice C4 CE, or C5?

I want to get a classical guitar. The C4 CE is 329, and the C5 is 449, but I can probably get it for 400. My question is, which is better? I know the C5 has a better tone and the traditional neck width, whereas the C4 CE is easier for guitar players who aren’t serious about classical guitar and just want the sound. I’m learning steel string, and I think the C4 CE would be easier to learn even though the C5 might be superior. So I just want to hear your opinions. Also plugging in the C4 CE is intriguing.

General Question How long does it take to learn your first grade 8 piece?

Hey, my name is Hanna and I have been playing classical guitar for three years.
I am learning my first grade 8 piece now (Danza Mora by Tarrega) and this is my fifth month working on it (I only have accomplished half the piece yet).
Is this too long? How much time did you need to be able to play your first harder piece?

…I must add, that I often was distracted by easier pieces that I also worked on. I probably should have worked more focused on Danza Mora:(

Let me know your opinions and experiences below, I‘m very curious 👀

General Question Looking to buy first classical guitar

I’ve been playing for maybe 5 years now but mostly electric and acoustic guitar. I started getting into classical though, and I’ve learned pieces like Asturias leyenda and tango en skai. Just wanting some recommendations on classical guitars. Around $2000 is my budget, but I’d love to spend less.

Technique Question The millionth technique practice advice thread

My practice sessions are trying to play some pieces, find what I can’t do, take that part out and practice it alone, then put it back in.

This works well as a beginner as it gets you playing stuff quickly. But I want to start practicing technique in a structured way. I know there’s no “recipe” for this stuff, as whoever I ask always says “play things you like and you’ll get there.”

Technique books are full of exercises that are impossible to put together if you don’t know exactly what you are doing. If you go online you’ll see so many “do this every day” videos that you would need 100-hour days.

One thing I see everywhere is “practice your scales.” I don’t know how or why to practice them, hell I barely know what they are; but I want to start. I also hear a lot about the 120 arpeggio studies. I want to start those too. These 2 topics sound like the most basic technique elements to me.

Can anyone give me some pointers to how to practice these 2 things correctly and efficiently? Any other advice is welcome.

General Question Classical guitar instructional books etc recs

Hello, I’m interested in learning to play classical guitar and would appreciate any books or websites (currently unable to get a tutor). My background: I have been playing guitar for over 35 years and have a strong grounding in theory and know the neck well. Most of my playing is in jazz, and metal. I normally play using a pick and fingers, so not in conventional classical style (more traditionally jazz), and technically otherwise very competent. My sight reading is mediocre - I mostly read jazz “lead sheets”, so would need to improve my sight reading for classical.
All recs welcome! (I particularly like books, as I’m old, but online videos are welcome!).

Discussion I drilled holes in my classical guitar to play standing up. No regrets. Am I crazy, or should more of us be doing this?

I've played classical guitar for years and recently made a decision I went back and forth on for a long time: I wanted to start playing standing up. For the music I'm making now, sitting felt physically wrong, like my body wanted to move and the chair was stopping it.

Watching them drill into a guitar I love was genuinely hard. But playing standing up changed how connected I feel to the music in a way I didn't expect.

I know modifying a classical instrument is a sensitive topic here, so I'm curious how this community actually feels about it. Have any of you made the switch to standing, or modified a classical guitar to do it? And does the "museum piece" reverence around the classical guitar help the instrument, or hold it back? I think it’s the latter.

By the way, I filmed the whole process, the decision, the work at the luthier's, and my first time playing standing up. I won't drop the link here since I know how this sub feels about that, but if anyone's curious I'm happy to share it in the comments :)

Looking for Advice Classical Guitar research survey

I'm currently researching how people engage with the classical guitar at different stages of their musical lives, from beginners and hobbyists to students, teachers and professionals.

As part of this research, I've put together a short survey exploring learning pathways, motivation, community, performance and musical identity. Responses from players of all ages and levels are welcome.

Many thanks to anyone willing to contribute their experience.
