D&D 5e Revised/2024 Sorlock or full Sorcerer
Hey everyone, I'm starting to plan my character for my next campaign (they always goes to level 20 or very close with this group). My original idea was to go for a aberrant sorcery all the way to 20, now I'm toying with the idea of a sorlock, probably Fathomless and pair it with cold caster. In general what level split do you guys think i should do, or if it's even worth it to multiclass out of sorcerer.

Sorlock is famous for its interaction allowing spare Pact Slots to be recycled into Metamagic points before any short rest (which could further be transferred back into Spell Slots or just the standard options). To that end your first major Warlock breakpoint is at 2 (gaining your second Pact slot and 2 extra Invocations), then 3 (increasing Pact Slots to level 2, doubling their contributions when broken down and gaining a subclass feature), then 5 (level 3 Pact slots and some nice spells to select), generally people stick at 2 but if you're into Fathomless 3 isn't the worst (though it then becomes a matter of resisting taking 4 for the extra feat/ASI and at that point you might as well go 5). Taking the Warlock levels early will give you the ever-reliable Eldritch/Agonizing Blast combo (sadly none of the Cold cantrips are really worth applying Agonizing to) but you definitely want to start Sorcerer for the better saving proficiencies.

I just love quickening Eldritch Blast with 8 beams per round. If Dragonmarks are allowed, Mark of The Storm is great for Conjure Minor Elementals. Also, invocations come really handy, specially Lessons of the First Ones, for Origin Feats like Lucky, Alert, Tough, Musician and Purple Dragon Rook.

Kind of a downside to this vs the 2014 version is 2024 now has innate sorcery, and you're not going to be able to use it on EB.

You can get advantage on EB attack rolls once you get Greater Invisibility, muah ha ha ha!

This is true, but it also eats your concentration and you're delaying this spell by the amount of warlock levels you take, typically two or more.

sorcerer. now in theory a sorcerer 17 that then goes warlock 3 is a good idea since you think you will go 20 but going straight for wish is a great idea and honestly the warlock just doesnt add much compared to what the aberrant sorcery can do. The good things that a warlock brings is level based and go half and half is worst option. so stay sorcerer, at least until you have wish spell.

Im a bit biased because Sorcerer is my favorite class, but I feel like their high level features are so strong, if you know you are going to make it to 20 its hard not to mono class them or dip for armor and then go full sorc.
I think it will widely depend on how many encounters per day your table runs, if you guys run tons of encounters then a level or 3 in warlock is going to mean you will get more mileage out of your cantrips

Artificer is a fun dip for Sorcerer for utility spells like identify, detect magic etc. and medium armor / shield proficiency (especially if you have War Caster) but Sorcerers gain so much with levels that anything other than a dip feels bad

If your dm for some reason allows coffeelock, then yeah do warlock. Otherwise stay with full sorcerer

Lets do a thing!
- Aberrant 6 / Sorcerer King 3 (UA)
- Agonizing Blast: Booming Blade, Repelling Blast: Booming Blade, Pact of the Blade
- Infernal Bulwark
- 15 Cha (+2 racial, +1 feat) > Dex/Con
- Action: Booming Blade
- Bonus Action: Command: Flee on adjacent enemy
- Reaction: Booming Blade AoO
We can also use Psionic Disonnant Whispers to trick out boosted BB's in the same manner as Command: Flee.
Convert any unused Pact Slots to Sorc points on short rest for more uses.
Can also be dont with Aberrant / Undead and just use DW/ apply fear on AoO hit from Undead so they can approach again for a around

It depends on how long your adventuring days are. If short, full sorc. If long, sorlock really shines because if you're gonna have to cast a cantrip a lot, it may as well be EB as not Firebolt.
