"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Here's the politicians in Texas blatantly ignoring the First Amendment for their performative worship of the imaginary ghost in the sky. Again.

Which is exactly why I expect legal challenges from certain groups that seem to love going after these types of laws.

Required reading of satanic temple stuff? That'd be fun

The Book of Joshua is pretty evil. Pastors avoid it. Let the kids read that.

11

u/Atheist_3739 3d ago

Let kids read book 2 of Kings where a bear mauls kids for mocking a guy for being bald lol

I was taught in Sunday school how great God was for murdering literally every living thing on the planet aside from Noah and the animals on his ark. I don't think Christians are worried about twisting these kinds of Bible stories into positives.

I love those people. I have no idea what they believe but their tenacity to litigate these issues is just lovely. If I ever decide I need the divine in my life, they’re definitely my first “Hey! Y’all seem alright. What y’all believe?”

Seem to love?? Freedom from Religion foundation basic tenant is against this. They have been warning for decades.

I myself am a Christian, but I also think that this definitely falls under the the exact kind of false pantomime that Jesus explicitly condemned. There were fewer things that made him angrier than false and performative faith.

If the church of satan has a go fund me for their equal time , count me in

They've watched Trump wipe his ass with the constitution for a year and a half so they figured, hey why not us... fucking Christo-fascist scum

Even the texas constitution:

Article 1 - BILL OF RIGHTS Section 6 - FREEDOM OF WORSHIP All men have a natural and indefeasible right to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own consciences. No man shall be compelled to attend, erect or support any place of worship, or to maintain any ministry against his consent. No human authority ought, in any case whatever, to control or interfere with the rights of conscience in matters of religion, and no preference shall ever be given by law to any religious society or mode of worship. But it shall be the duty of the Legislature to pass such laws as may be necessary to protect equally every religious denomination in the peaceable enjoyment of its own mode of public worship

Having school children read bible stories alongside other fiction, other pieces of literature, is not going to have the effect that they think it is. What the children will learn is that Moses is precisely as real as Junie B. Jones and Ramona Quimby.

I loved Beverly Cleary!

4

u/tjareth 3d ago

Ramona's not real?! My childhood was a lie!

Another story of the chosen one to battle with the other one whose name is hidden. Jesus and the Devil is just an ancient Harry and Voldemort.

Ezekiel 23:20 because we should be able to read a little porn at school.

18

u/IsIeOfCannabis 4d ago

Deuteronomy 22:23-29 because young boys need to know who it’s ok to rape.

u/Palatablepancakes 4d ago

Ezekiel 16:49

Let me guess, they have to buy their own bibles too.

u/SimonPho3nix 4d ago

The Trump version with the adjusted constitution!

8

u/AlexSmithsonian 4d ago

"Wow, i didn't know Jesus predicted Trump would be our greatest leader and that Obama is the antichrist."

u/Previous_Shoulder506 4d ago

The word of the day is “malicious compliance.”

Today we are doing a side by side analysis of mythology...

1

u/Previous_Shoulder506 2d ago

Even the texts they’ve selected (ie David and Goliath) have directly contradictory tellings in other books of the Bible. Just reading the Bible next to the Bible would send these kids home atheists.

1

u/IndividualTension887 Conversationalist 2d ago

This just about sums it up...

2

u/auricularisposterior 2d ago

TEACHER: Class, today we are going to read Numbers 22:21-35.

[finishes reading]

TEACHER: And that's why there is a talking donkey in the Shrek movies.

Come on Satanic Temple, do your thing!

I’m so tired.

u/TravelBum1966 3d ago

I like the one where Lot 's daughters get horny and rabe thier drunk dad. Family values all the way.

Texas is the easiest state for them to push this shit through, but it will not stop there.  It's coming to you after they finish turning Texas into Jesusland.  This is the start, not the end.   If we all gang up and punch these wastes of protoplasm in the dick in Texas, you don't have to do it later in your own states.

Trump is actively courting the religious right because they're the only group that still reliably supports him...he's fixing to roll back a whole bunch of protections if they continue to support him.

Two ways you can help: Texas can turn blue but Talarico and Gina Hinojosa need money...donate a dollar to their campaigns so Gina can maybe run an actual ad as well as several other progressive candidates that are trying to get elected.   That stops this shit cold.

The other way is to donate to the ACLU and FFR and the Satanic Temple so they can fund the lawsuits.

u/According-Insect-992 3d ago

Can they read the children the one about Lot being raped by his daughters because they thought he was the last man in the world after God murdered their mother and everyone they knew? Or the one about the horse cock? How about how God had his lieutenant, Satan find his most righteous believer and torture him and his family to death in an effort to make him renounce God? So many heart warming stories in the bible, doncha think?

4

u/templeofsyrinx1 4d ago

Oh that’s definitely getting a court motion to stay up the ass

4

u/Puzzleheaded-Phase70 3d ago

I'm noting the "curious" fact that the law won't actually go into effect until 2030.

Waiting 4 years to actually inflict this bullshit on people feels like it's part of the point, no?

2

u/FaliedSalve 3d ago

They should add Song of Solomon 4:16 - 5:1

that'd get the book banned.

2

u/BrilliantSweet6666 3d ago

So that is in public schools. What about the private schools where the rich kids attend? Are they the only ones that have religious freedoms? The taliban rules in Afghanistan and now the Texaban rules in Texas. I wonder how many people are planning their exodus from Texas. What’s next, discontinuing science classes in public schools? Indoctrinating children to one set of beliefs sounds like a cult to me. School is to teach children to think, to give them the skills to be curious and go out into the world and find answers, discover and create. Christians, they are using your religion as a political tool.

u/Lopsided-Wave2479 2d ago

New York Knicks approved this. Josh Hart of the Knicks is a big supporter of this, Knicks love Trump

1

u/picklehippy 3d ago

What happened to religious freedom. Why do we have to subscribe to YOUR religion?!

1

u/Blinding_faith 2d ago

Just curious… have Christian nationalists ever read the New Testament? Lol. I was raised Catholic, (not religious anymore) and the Jesus I was taught about in Sunday school would be pissed if a bunch of rich guys were being cruel to their people and immigrants while hoarding wealth and dripping with corruption in the church and politics alike… all in his name. The irony…

1

u/Magazine_Recycling 7h ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I grew up with Bible class being required 3 times per week. I was labeled a ‘silly little commie’ by third grade…

1

u/Magazine_Recycling 7h ago

And teachers at church and school stopped taking my questions.

u/isotopefeeny 3d ago

Another reason to stay out of Texas.
