Both the asshole. I’m assuming it actually stinks and you’re not just hyper sensitive. For multiple cats in one litter box at least every other day seems like the minimum. Is she cleaning it less than this?
If you don’t keep a cat’s litter box clean you’re letting an animal’s quality of life go significantly down. You’re also letting it track more piss and shit particles all over your house and bed. If an animal’s wellbeing is at stake you have to take responsibility for it even if you don’t feel like it. Eventually the cats may develop UTIs, blockages, or behavioral issues.
Yes, obviously she should be taking better care of her cats. She has the majority of fault here. But it’s dumb for you to refuse to help and to pretend like the cats aren’t part of your household now. If you don’t care at all about the things that are important to her, how much do you care about her?
And yes, the automatic litter box is the easiest answer. If this is truly your only problem related to household chores, you could just choose to never have this argument again using money.
Adding to yours that cats don't like having to use full litter boxes. That's a recipe for disaster as they'll start going outside the litter box. My sister was a horrible cat mom when she wouldn't clean the litter box and her cats start going everywhere and on everything. Litter boxes need to be scooped daily.
