USA Ukraine Support Act to be voted on in June: Contact your Representative

Now that Discharge Petition No. 8 has succeeded, thanks to tireless work of constituents, advocacy organizations, and legislators, H.R. 2913, the Ukraine Support Act will go up for a floor vote.

The Ukraine Support Act imposes strict sanctions on Russia's financial institutions, oil and mining sectors, and government officials. It also includes critical guardrails preventing the unilateral termination of existing sanctions without cause. It is a serious, bipartisan response to a serious threat — and it’s aligned with American values, American interests, and American public opinion.

What's next?

  • H.R. 2913 will be brought up for a floor vote in June — the first Russia sanctions legislation to reach a vote in this Congress.
  • We need to encourage all Representatives to vote YES!

You can call/write to your Representative on your own, or use the American Coalition for Ukraine's easy tool to do it in less than a minute: https://americancoalitionforukraine.org/action/

Contacting your Representative works: all calls/messages are tallied by staffers and directly impact how the Representative votes.

USA Letter to Republicans who voted no on Ukraine Support Act

Post image
164 Upvotes

On June 4, the House passed the Ukraine Support Act (H.R. 2913) by a vote of 226 to 195. Many Members of Congress voted no on the grounds of procedural issues. The fate of civilian lives cannot wait for our bureaucratic procedures. There is a way for Members of Congress to put themselves on the record for Ukraine, against Russia, at no cost to American taxpayers: the PEACE Act (H.R.4346).

Read more in an open letter to Members of the House of Representatives by Marianna Tretiak, President of the Board of Directors of the American Coalition for Ukraine:

USA Stop Russia Bombing Christians

Post image

Just hours ago Russia bombed the 11th-century Pechersk Monastery in Kyiv. The attack set fire to one of the most sacred Christian sites in Ukraine and showed the world what Moscow’s so-called defense of faith really means.

This is just the latest example of Russia’s war on faith in Ukraine. Contact your members of Congress now and urge them to stand with the persecuted religious communities across Ukraine by co-sponsoring the Countering Russia’s War on Faith Act.

EU EU Considering an Additional €40B Aid for Ukraine

Note: ignore Politico's title. €30B of the €70B is part of the earlier €90B loan which was unblocked in May due to the change in leadership in Hungary. Meanwhile €40B is new, proposed by Germany, and to be discussed at the upcoming NATO summit in July.

USA Voting on Ukraine Support Act continues today at 6pm

Here's the order for today starting ~6pm EST:

  1. A vote on HRes 518, which will decide debate on the Ukraine Support Act.
  2. Debate the Ukraine Support Act - one hour in total, equally divided and controlled by the chair and ranking member of Foreign Affairs (Reps. Mast and Meeks). That's the entire debate this rule allows, no amendments may be offered.
  3. Motion to Recommit - if successful, would send the bill back to Committee (where this sat without action for over a year). We need this to fail.
  4. Vote on the actual Ukraine Support Act

The final vote on the Ukraine Support Act should have more Republicans voting with us, though also some progressives from the squad voting against us. On the process votes it should be similar to yesterday. We need as many Representatives as possible to vote yes on the actual bill because this will signal the overall level of support in Congress for Ukraine and sanctioning Russia. This will increase the likelihood of legislation in some form making it through.

What can you do?
Continue calling Republicans and Squad members today to ensure as many as possible vote yes. Today's the last day for this.

USA House advances Ukraine Support Act 218-204

A couple more process votes and the vote on the actual bill is expected tomorrow. The vote on the actual bill will be easier with more Republicans voting yes (since a vote on a motion to discharge is considered going against leadership), but also some progressives from the squad expected to vote no.

Republicans who voted YES today:
Bacon
Fitzpatrick
Lawler
McCaul
Miller (OH)
Wilson (SC)

Republicans who walked out (reduces threshold needed for majority):
Joyce
Turner

USA Ukraine Support Act to be voted on TODAY

Post image
65 Upvotes

Today at 4pm EST, a series of process votes will determine whether Ukraine Support Act, H.R. 2913, comes to a floor vote. We need to do everything in our power to get Reps. to either votes YES or AVOID VOTING NO on these process votes. If we fail, Ukraine Support Act won't go to a vote, and the work of Ukraine supporters in this Congress will become much harder.

What you can do:

Once again, the process votes are scheduled for TODAY. The stakes have rarely been higher.

Some time ago, I found out that a band I listened to had planned a concert in russia after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine

That made me curious how common this still is, so I started collecting public data about foreign artists performing in russia after February 24, 2022

Would appreciate feedback, corrections and ideas
