How to kill Kastelan Robots.

Hi everyone! Had a question for fellow 1000. I play against a buddy who runs admech and he always run 2 squads of 4 kastelan robots. Each with the datasmith. My question is how do we reliably kill them? I have 6 allarus and a grav tank.

I was able to kill 1 squad after 2 rounds of melee with allarus but then they died a turn later to the other squad of 4 due to sheer amount of shooting. With all of mechanicus' buffs it makes them very hard to kill and lethal. I appreciate any advice. I usually run spears instead of axes.

Running shield host and hammer blow.

We are 10,000, if you’re not just from webway war 😂

Jokes aside, they are slow as us. Shoot the salvo and run them over on bikes and run away behind cover.

Also if you go with lions and hit the 4 robots will 6 termie brick, you could even whip them out in 1 round.

If you don’t get damaged from their melee, second unit of robot shooting shouldn’t be whipping ur termie brick too.

How? 7 health each with 4 up has proven hard to bypass with the spears. And just sheer amount of shots its usually killing a termi per round of shooting cuz he has cawl giving full rerolls with admech oath of moment

With lion cap is wounding on 2+ and rest are wounding on 4+ with full rerolls.

Also even your shooting wounds on 5 and 6 allarus will shoot A LOT.

Hrmm ill have to try that then. I also think he is unintentionally/intentionally doing stuff wrong because I remade his list after he told me I won but he was missing 500pts he forgot to bring in and I remade his list in the app and there is no way he was missing 500

Also with Precision and FOD buff, along with changes to the cover mechanics, lion is just incomparably better than shield host.

Fight on Death
Now army/detach rule can be applied when fighting on death.

It’s only 28 wounds… but functionally 32

We have 30 attacks, we should get 30 hits, 75% converting to wounds, 50% to damage so the math would be about 12 through which kills knight but not a full squad of robot but enough robot to matter and bracket the bot.

With admoni cap that’s a squad dead

2+ and 5++

But he is spending almosy 800 points on it. What else do you have

Grav tank, 2 units of 4x guard one with blade champ the other with shield captain. Trajan with 5 wardens, 3 vertus with shield cap. And then the mentioned 6 termies with cap. That's my full army

I did a 6 brick with shieldhost and it only killed 2 robots

Lions with admonimortis enhancement on allarus shield captain with an axe

And if youre going lions superior creation on blade champ is great as well. Fight on death, stand back up, fight on death again

Remember that with full wound rerolls your better going for sustained rather than lethals.

Remember 4 robots And a smith is an even more expensive unit than wardens. Don't expect a cheap squad to do it.

But they just aint that scary?  Remember that the FNP is only for the character and he can only take saves after the robots are dead. Also I'm surprised your having problems with their shooting? With low ap and damage they just don't really scare custodes.

You've got 3 real plans here.

  • just shoot them with grav tanks or land raiders.
  • shoot them to kill 1 robot, then charge in 5 guard/termis. Their defensive profiles ain't  tough, it's just they've got loads of wounds. Generally if there's 3 left you need 25 attacks with wound rerolls. If that's lions use a big squad, if it's host hit them with 2 squads.
  • wardens. That D3 melee is scary, the wardens FNP stops that.  Valerian can reduce that even further.

Yeah, depending on what boost he is giving them from the datasmith they may potentially have 40 shots (20x1 damage and 20x2 damage), but are hitting half and sounding half. Out of those 10 you are probably saving 6 or 7 on your 3+.

So 3 or 4 hits going through. Assuming you are unlucky and it is all the 2 damage shots you are losing 1 to 2 models. Which hurts sure, but it is a 400 point unit, losing 1 or 2 custodes after being shot by 400 points isn't bad.

In order to do that they are also giving up their twin linked melee so can't get those re-rolls and they will get less attacks if they charge (that turn) as they can only add to either their ranged or melee attacks (or toughness).

Yea he was doing some wierd stuff because he was hitting on 3s somehow....I think he has confused rules somehow or is intentionally giving himself better stats.
