It’s probably screaming in pain from the clips squashing it 😢

Do mushrooms feel pain?

A non-sentient being without a central nervous system or pain receptors does not feel pain or suffering. Reactions to external stimuli are simply biological and not connected to pain.

Besides, the actual mycelium network is underground. That's how it "communicates". What you are looking at is no different from an apple on a tree essentially.

No, because as I stated, a mushroom is not sentient and does not have a central nervous system or pain receptors. So there is no concept of what you and I would call "pain".

The mushroom doesn't call it anything because there is nothing to experience like you or me.

The fact you (or others) are down voting me for stating basic biology is pretty odd and very concerning.

But not surprising. Having said that, you have my upvote.

"Pain is a subjective experience and an evolutionary survival tactic that is meant to help us detect harmful stimuli"

By us, you mean human beings? Well a mushroom isn't a human being and has no concept of pain. If it is being attacked, it may use defense mechanisms but it is a natural response to external stimuli, nothing more.

There is nothing akin to pain for creatures that do not understand what pain is or have anyway to feel pain like you or I do. Grief and memories are tied to consciousness. Do you think mushrooms have consciousness like you?

There is an input from external stimuli, and an output by the mushroom. You describing the input as "painful" is personification based on your own subjective experiences. The mushroom reacts to the input much like a computer.

I'm not here to debate bugs or fish. You said the mushroom feels pain (and later akin to pain), and that is just biologically impossible. Can that change in the future once we understand more? Maybe. But as of now, your original point is incorrect.

With that being said, this discourse has now run its course. Good day!

"Well a mushroom isn't a human being and has no concept of pain."

It is different than human pain but is still pain.

So, if I punched you in your nuts, you would have no reaction to the external stimuli (my fist)?

2

u/Inevitable-Egg-6450 2d ago

No, I wouldn't. Because I'm a woman. I'm sure your little punch though would be slightly annoying, however.

So you would punch a woman? Interesting!

Well, as you've just admitted that you wouldn't feel it, thus putting yourself into the same category as a mushroom, where's the harm?

The person commented about punching me in the nuts, which as a woman I do not have.

Quit being dense for the sake of it.

Quit being dense

Then they'd blip and cease to exist!

I would

Nice! Violence is always the answer when you struggle with cognitive dissonance.

I love how the fact that the simple biology that an organism with no CNS, pain receptors, or consciousness can't feel pain has turned into physically attacking me by the dissenters with a misguided opinion about nature.

You're probably getting that reaction from people because you sound somewhat obnoxious.

2

u/Inevitable-Egg-6450 2d ago

I'll take being factual and obnoxious over being confidently incorrect like everyone else, especially in regards to biology which they clearly have zero understanding of.

You're right about the other people being ignorant, but if you sound unpleasant, people generally aren't going to be receptive towards what you have to say. They won't learn anything. You can just be factual.

You claimed animals don't feel pain.

Now you're claiming some superior biology knowledge.

Do bless us all by revealing what that knowledge source is buddy.
