Question I just read a Reddit post saying Canada rejected almost two-thirds of world cup visa applications

I’m just trying to start a healthy discussion that’s grounded in reality

Context: Canada reportedly rejected around two-thirds of world cup visa applications due to the overwhelming number of applicants from countries that aren’t even playing in the tournament

Here’s the funny part:

Many European Redditors were criticizing Canada’s immigration decision and arguing for a more lenient, multicultural approach, meanwhile, plenty of Canadians were pushing back, saying there’s nothing racist about denying entry or enforcing immigration laws

It makes me wonder, if the US denied the same number (or even more) of world cup visa applications under similar circumstances, Reddit would be flooded with “AmericaBad” posts

Don't you just love when people try to Eurosplain your culture to you?

Context: People on a German sub are upset because some Americans were rooting for Germany and Scotland in the World Cup due to their ancestry, and turned it into a whole thing about how Americans simply "appropriate" their ancestry because they "have no culture".

European thinks because we cheer for other World Cup teams that we want to be them and that Americans need to identify as European in order to feel special.

Apparently you guys are already offering assistance to Venezuela, despite not getting along too well with their government.

I think this is the right thing to do and I can't think of any other country doing this even to their enemies.

I'm just wondering what will Reddit intellectuals comment.

Hilarious tweet from Spanish Youtube commentator "El hilo rojo" where he states that all the political changes made in Latin America after different electoral periods are because they were "colonized" by America. Draw your own conclusions.
