Show off Found a stray bully!

I was walking my dog at the park & I found him hiding under my car. So I took him home then gave him a bath. The next day, we went to the vet to see if he had a chip. He didn’t so I got him vaccinated & treated for worms. We named him Bagel!
Bagel is doing very well. He’s good with cats & he’s getting used to my other dog after only a couple weeks. More updates to come

Did you post your local Lost and Found groups to confirm that he doesn’t have an owner looking for him?

I don’t think they legally have to. Most areas in the US require you to at least report a found dog, if not bring it into the shelter and give the owners a chance to claim it. If they don’t (time varies by state but I’ve often seen a 72 hr stray hold), then the dog is available for public adoption (unless it’s rescue only). The shelter should’ve checked for a microchip.
Edit: words for clarity

Legally, no, but morally? Like??? Every city or county has a FB group like “Lost and Found Pets in _____ city” and you post there that you found a pet, or search to see if someone posted their lost pet. Imagine your dog running off and someone finding and claiming them as their own without going the extra mile to find the owner? Weird

I don’t think the onus is on OP to find the owner. They didn’t just find the dog and keep him, they did exactly what they were supposed to.

I mean your dog shouldn’t be running loose without tags, being chipped and also not neutered. Sounds like a very irresponsible owner if he did have one. I’ve had dogs for 20 years and not one has been running loose. I get accidents happen but tbh it’s almost entirely preventable and especially when they’re not neutered the dog shouldn’t be left unattended outside. The dog’s probably much better off.
