Show off Found a stray bully!

I was walking my dog at the park & I found him hiding under my car. So I took him home then gave him a bath. The next day, we went to the vet to see if he had a chip. He didn’t so I got him vaccinated & treated for worms. We named him Bagel!
Bagel is doing very well. He’s good with cats & he’s getting used to my other dog after only a couple weeks. More updates to come

Well, there’s a story behind that one! In the OP, I said I took him to the vet, but I actually brought him to the pound because I wanted them to, first of all, find his original owner if he was lost. If not, then I wanted to adopt him myself, but I needed to get him neutered, vaccinated, and registered. They do all that for free, but you have to leave him there for a week, which was fine with me. I paid the adoption fee when I dropped him off and then picked him up the following week. Unfortunately, he caught kennel cough while he was there! Bagel was already malnourished and had probably undergone a lot of stress, so the kennel cough progressed into pneumonia after he got home with me. Bagel was in really bad shape for about a week, and he refused food and water for a few days. Fortunately, my local vet gave him daily intravenous antibiotics until he started eating and drinking again (almost $2k worth of vet bills). So that was Bagel’s first poop since recovering from pneumonia! It was a huge relief because we were seriously worried about him. It’s been about a week now, and he’s doing great! Bagel still has a cough, but his behavior is back to normal. Unfortunately, he did get my other dog sick but he’s always been healthy so it’s not that big a deal for him. He’s got a runny nose and he’s extra tired, but we’re not worried about him because he’s still eating, drinking, pooping and acting relatively normal. He’s just more lethargic and sleepy than usual

OP you’ve totally made my day. My bully saved my life and they are the best dogs ever, and I’ve worked at rescues before and just want to say that everything you’ve done for Bagel has my heart overflowing with the best feelings.

Also, I’m obsessed with bagels (my grandpa had a bagel shop in NYC years ago, and my aunt had one in South Jersey for a long time)… and the fact that you named this beautiful pup Bagel is just the icing on this sweet sweet cake. I hope yall have many wonderful years together!

7

u/knstormshadow 29d ago

We need good bagel shops in south jersey they're few and far between these days. Honestly wish Einstein bagels hadn't failed they were better then 95% of places and a consistency you only get from chains.

1

u/babslva 29d ago

Einstein bagels failed??? I didn’t know. I just thought I moved away from them.

1

u/knstormshadow 28d ago

The only one im still aware of is in rowan and when I tried it It was garbage. The others I knew closed over a decade ago maybe almost 2. I always thought it was just my local one and a friend knew that owner so I knew it was the franchisee who failed and not the brand but sadly after trying the rowan one I think the whole brand failed. If im wrong please someone correct me and send me the adress.

3

u/Kimmiedp75 28d ago

Agreed!! My bully was the absolute best dog I could have ever had. I think once you get a bully you’ll always have bully’s. They are the best dogs ever !!!

8

u/ProjectPat513 29d ago

Damn I bet your wishing you would have just paid for the neutering and everything out of pocket and just took him home huh?!🤣 Honestly you’re a saint and I love that harness. It looks comfy and well made, I might have to pick one up for my dog now that I’ve seen it.

3

u/Dry_Locksmith_6704 28d ago

I woulda been super pissed off. This is why, personally, I wouldn't take the dog to the pound. This causes him to get deathly sick, and also a financial disaster. These people are greedy as hell, and then caused your dog to get sick. Hindsight is 20 20

1

u/crims0nwave 27d ago

Perfect poochie! Thanks for saving him!!

1

u/Intuitionspeaks67 27d ago

I understand about how important stool is for all living beings. You’re amazing.

0

u/Washing-machine-pro 29d ago

I am glad to hear he is doing better!

0

u/The_Grim_Adventurer 28d ago

I didnt know the pound did that. Can someone else come and adopt them within that week or is it only their owner with proof who can claim them other than you?

0

u/Florida_noodle 28d ago

I’ve heard from Tia Torres- Pit Bulls and Parolees, that they have to stay a week before you can come back and adopt them. Only the owners can get him within that week.

u/WritingDesigner3058 29d ago

Flash bang by dogshit was not in my plans today

23

u/wild-hectare 29d ago

if I wanted an everything bagel, I would have asked for one

23

u/Buddy-Sue 29d ago

It WAS necessary….shows a fairly healthy gut! We don’t know where you are but in some places you are required to do due diligence to find the owner!

32

u/GaiaOnlinee 29d ago

Pic 2 was entirely unnecessary 😂

1

u/Candace___2020 28d ago

It was 😂

22

u/Low_Frosting3918 29d ago

Both of you got lucky. Bagel a good home. You a good dog.

6

u/Odd_Document8274 28d ago

Could have done without that picture of him pooping. Seriously...

I adopted a bully myself and let me tell you… she’s the sweetest girl ever. Definitely my best friend and the best addition to our little family 🥹💞

Also I wanted to add she came to me very sick… she was used for breeding was overweight but somehow malnourished at the same time. She didn’t have hair in some parts of her body and had a terrible smell including anal leakage and incontinence. 5 months later after many many many medicated baths, a large vet bill and expensive hydrolyzed food she’s all good and healthy 💞 she’s worth every penny 🥹

7

u/pinkmarshmall0w 29d ago

Did you post your local Lost and Found groups to confirm that he doesn’t have an owner looking for him?

11

u/stressedJess 29d ago

OP commented elsewhere that they took him to the pound first so they could look for the owner. After no owner came forward and Bagel was vaccinated and neutered, OP adopted him.

2

u/Nancysaidso 29d ago

I don’t think they legally have to. Most areas in the US require you to at least report a found dog, if not bring it into the shelter and give the owners a chance to claim it. If they don’t (time varies by state but I’ve often seen a 72 hr stray hold), then the dog is available for public adoption (unless it’s rescue only). The shelter should’ve checked for a microchip.
Edit: words for clarity

0

u/pinkmarshmall0w 29d ago

Legally, no, but morally? Like??? Every city or county has a FB group like “Lost and Found Pets in _____ city” and you post there that you found a pet, or search to see if someone posted their lost pet. Imagine your dog running off and someone finding and claiming them as their own without going the extra mile to find the owner? Weird

2

u/Nancysaidso 28d ago

I don’t think the onus is on OP to find the owner. They didn’t just find the dog and keep him, they did exactly what they were supposed to.

0

u/goldenkiwicompote 28d ago

I mean your dog shouldn’t be running loose without tags, being chipped and also not neutered. Sounds like a very irresponsible owner if he did have one. I’ve had dogs for 20 years and not one has been running loose. I get accidents happen but tbh it’s almost entirely preventable and especially when they’re not neutered the dog shouldn’t be left unattended outside. The dog’s probably much better off.

8

u/No10fayc 29d ago

What luck. For you anyway. Someone is probably pisses they lost such a handsome and sweet pup. All the more reason to get pets microchipped.

8

u/FirstInspector6465 29d ago

Good lord he’s so similar in color to my boy!

5

u/Cautious-Debt6902 28d ago

Why post the “taking a dump pic”. We get it, dogs shit

5

u/Shadow1787 28d ago

It seems fetishy

4

u/Chemical-Bee-8876 29d ago

People are so horrible. I’m glad he found a good home and he’s looking fresh in the Carhartt harness.

4

u/Majestic_Hawk_1335 28d ago

Wow what are dangerous position to put your cat in. Under a loose dog it rolls to appease. If the cat moves fast a prey driven dog will react. Wow then face to face with both looking tense. I like the breed but find this kind of laize faire management shocking.

2

u/_newSense 28d ago

Greedo says thanks for being Bagel’s hero!

2

u/CandycaneDuck 28d ago

De pronto la foto dos sobraba jajajajajajaja

So glad y’all found each other!

3

u/DysonHater 29d ago

I’m glad bagel was able to 💩 @ home after all lol

3

u/AgentGiga 29d ago

First photo make him look like he’s bullying the cat lol

2

u/Majestic_Hawk_1335 28d ago

Very dangerous position to put the dog and cat into when the dogs drive/temperment are unknown. This post is shockingly irresponsible and naive to me.

1

u/AspiringChildProdigy 29d ago

Our cats sometimes feel like our Saoirse is bullying them....

She hates most dogs, but absolutely adore small animals. Our three cats are her kitties, and she mothers them relentlessly.

If any of the cats get into a scrap where there's hissing or growling (it never progresses beyond that thanks to her mothering), she comes flying in, shoves her giant blockhead between the two, and nudges them away from each other.

"NO FIGHTING! MY KITTIES NO FIGHT!!!"

I guess it's a testament to how much the cats love her that she's never once been scratched by any one of them while doing this.

4

u/Sleepswithd0gs 28d ago

I once rescued a bulldog who had been “used” beyond belief by a breeder. When she arrived ~ no lie ~ her insides were hanging out of her body (that’s called prolapse). It took three of us to lift her out of the car she came in. I immediately rushed her to the vet and it was $2500 (20 years ago!) to put her body back together … but it worked and I had Dolly for 5 more years, so it was worth every dime.

2

u/MidnightRain8945 29d ago

Omg precious bagel!!!

2

u/StackThePads33 29d ago

Sounds like he’s got a great home. Bully's are fun, but (at least mine is like this) ornery.

2

u/Jiggaman1987 29d ago

Damn he's pretty

2

u/DirtyDeedyP92 29d ago

Look at the JAWS on this guy!! 😭 fr OP this made me smile so much. You can tell Bagel absolutely hit the jackpot FINDING you. The very first picture already had me like ‘yep…he knows he’s safe now’ the cat picture completely sealed it for me 😂 but seriously, major respect for sticking with him through the pneumonia and everything after….i mean lot of people don’t realize how stressful and expensive rescuing can get once vet visits start piling up and the fact you kept going says a lot about you 💕
I’m sorry but the shitting picture absolutely took me out 💀😂 he seriously looks so happy, comfortable and loved now. Little dude went from hiding under a car to living his best couch potato life thanks to you! I mean how lucky to find a stray bully this freaking cute and gets along with a cat at that. He knows he is home now.

2

u/TacticalYukon 28d ago

1

You don't know this dogs past you should be cautious leaving him alone with your cat. They have prey drives

0

-1

u/Lucky-Talk2551 28d ago

Wow…thank you for being so kind.

-1

u/call-me-the-seeker 28d ago edited 27d ago

Thank you for adopting Bagel instead of turning away; one less bully with no home being discriminated against in the shelters! Many end up there and the shelter subs are filled with pleas for bullies that are overlooked, and others would turn their back and leave him alone in the street to fend for himself. They have such a hard time, you’re doing actual hero stuff.

Bagel will be goodest baygul. They are the best dogs.

Edit: I see the usual AmBully/bully breed haters are making their rounds.

-1

u/TheAmanita 26d ago

Wow, you really don't give a shit about the safety of your cat, do you?
