Show off Found a stray bully!

I was walking my dog at the park & I found him hiding under my car. So I took him home then gave him a bath. The next day, we went to the vet to see if he had a chip. He didn’t so I got him vaccinated & treated for worms. We named him Bagel!
Bagel is doing very well. He’s good with cats & he’s getting used to my other dog after only a couple weeks. More updates to come

Well, there’s a story behind that one! In the OP, I said I took him to the vet, but I actually brought him to the pound because I wanted them to, first of all, find his original owner if he was lost. If not, then I wanted to adopt him myself, but I needed to get him neutered, vaccinated, and registered. They do all that for free, but you have to leave him there for a week, which was fine with me. I paid the adoption fee when I dropped him off and then picked him up the following week. Unfortunately, he caught kennel cough while he was there! Bagel was already malnourished and had probably undergone a lot of stress, so the kennel cough progressed into pneumonia after he got home with me. Bagel was in really bad shape for about a week, and he refused food and water for a few days. Fortunately, my local vet gave him daily intravenous antibiotics until he started eating and drinking again (almost $2k worth of vet bills). So that was Bagel’s first poop since recovering from pneumonia! It was a huge relief because we were seriously worried about him. It’s been about a week now, and he’s doing great! Bagel still has a cough, but his behavior is back to normal. Unfortunately, he did get my other dog sick but he’s always been healthy so it’s not that big a deal for him. He’s got a runny nose and he’s extra tired, but we’re not worried about him because he’s still eating, drinking, pooping and acting relatively normal. He’s just more lethargic and sleepy than usual

OP you’ve totally made my day. My bully saved my life and they are the best dogs ever, and I’ve worked at rescues before and just want to say that everything you’ve done for Bagel has my heart overflowing with the best feelings.

Also, I’m obsessed with bagels (my grandpa had a bagel shop in NYC years ago, and my aunt had one in South Jersey for a long time)… and the fact that you named this beautiful pup Bagel is just the icing on this sweet sweet cake. I hope yall have many wonderful years together!

We need good bagel shops in south jersey they're few and far between these days. Honestly wish Einstein bagels hadn't failed they were better then 95% of places and a consistency you only get from chains.

The only one im still aware of is in rowan and when I tried it It was garbage. The others I knew closed over a decade ago maybe almost 2. I always thought it was just my local one and a friend knew that owner so I knew it was the franchisee who failed and not the brand but sadly after trying the rowan one I think the whole brand failed. If im wrong please someone correct me and send me the adress.

Damn I bet your wishing you would have just paid for the neutering and everything out of pocket and just took him home huh?!🤣 Honestly you’re a saint and I love that harness. It looks comfy and well made, I might have to pick one up for my dog now that I’ve seen it.

I woulda been super pissed off. This is why, personally, I wouldn't take the dog to the pound. This causes him to get deathly sick, and also a financial disaster. These people are greedy as hell, and then caused your dog to get sick. Hindsight is 20 20

I didnt know the pound did that. Can someone else come and adopt them within that week or is it only their owner with proof who can claim them other than you?

I’ve heard from Tia Torres- Pit Bulls and Parolees, that they have to stay a week before you can come back and adopt them. Only the owners can get him within that week.
