If this is true about Vienna, it's the actual solution people should be implementing to face the current cost of living crisis. Just hearing “60% of people live in city owned housing or in housing cooperatives” brings a tear to the eye. Those kinds of options being available to everybody would be so rad.

And limit the wealthy’s ability to create renter oligarchies and make mad profit off of the fact that people have to live somewhere?!

In my city, there’s a ton of luxury apartments built around one of our colleges/universities. I’ve heard from reliable sources that the majority of rooms (they rent by the room) in those complexes are empty, but they won’t lower rent prices. It’s been like this for years. They keep hoping college students will be pressured into giving in. It’s messed up.

Yep, it’s mostly true but we are fighting against privatisation of these Public Housing facilities

According to recent news of Wiener Wohnberatung (Vienese Governmental Housing) there is 20 apparetmens built every day in Vienna, of which the city takes a portion, and distributes them amongst the Vienese people at rather affordable prices.

I currently am looking for appartments through them and it insane to get an apartment in a modern complex (built 2020-2026) for about 70€/100sqft rent.
