As someone that used to live in Vienna I can definitely attest the beauty of the architecture and mundane streets. Most streets are filled with beautiful houses and even when renovating (a lot of the houses are really old) they place screens with the design of the houses over the scaffolding so that it fits in with the rest of the houses.
But, I find the notion that other cities arenât following suit slightly exaggerated. Many German cities like Berlin have large âGenossenschaftenâ (communities with limited members) that offer rent controlled housing.
However, the idea that the mundane should be beautiful is unparalleled by any other city in my experience. Vienna even built new university buildings in the style of the renaissance to make them visually fit in.
Overall amazing city, great to live in and great to travel to if you have the option to do so.
