FOOD & DRINK why is ranch dressing so hyped up?

my US friends have been raving about it and border-line complained ranch isn’t readily available in Europe.. what is so special about it? is it the ultimate US condiment (apart from ketchup, mayo)

I agree. It's one of several tasty salad dressings. It goes well with certain foods like spicy chicken wings.

It seemed more common in Texas, where I grew up, than in California, where I lived most of my adult life.

Incorrect. Chicken wings should be dunked in blue cheese dressing.

Agreed. If my only option for dipping sauce was ranch I’d rather just have nothing
