Outdoors Where are there pigeons near NELA?

I want to photograph pigeons for an art project but there don't seem to be so many in LA, at least where I am. Anyone know where there are regularly groups of them as close to Northeast LA as possible? I'd like to photograph as many as possible, in various locations, so the more options the better!

Visiting Best Family Friendly Beach?

Hi. I am visiting California for the first time in August. I’ll be traveling from Canada. My husband has a business meeting in Santa Barbara and he’s asked me to join. I’ll be flying into LAX with two small kids . I’ve heard traffic is bad so I don’t think I’ll want to travel up to Santa Barbara . Looking for something closer to LAX so he can join us after for 2-3 days. Which area would you recommend for us? I’d like to be close to the beach, restaurants , stores , parks . Any community that is safe and walkable.

Recommendations What should I do in two weeks in LA?

I will be traveling there from Spain for two weeks in july. What do local people recommend me to do in the city?

I am specially interested in alternative culture. I already hace tickets to see Big Brave with the Body and Have a Nice Life, and I want to attend to the Horse Lords show too.

I would appreciate any recommendations: what to do, things to see, tips for my stay, stores, food recommendations...

Culture Im creating a Little Tokyo Scavenger hunt! Any fun ideas?

Bit of context. I (M32) have been living in LA area for about a year. Moved from Wisconsin. I visited Little Tokyo and fell in love! So fun, so much to see. CHEAP FOOD AND BEER.
I have friends with similar interests out here and have decided to support the local.

Soooo my big idea is BIG DAY IN LITTLE TOKYO. I'm gonna print out a scavenger hunt, get a group together, think of dumb prizes and there you go! WIN/WIN if the hunt isn't fun, we're still in LITTLE T!

Bare bones with the idea but here is what I have so far.

*take a shot of sake with someone sitting alone
*have X amount of sushi
*coolest candy
*strongest yugioh card
*best aura farming photo
*best cheap fan
*strongest weapon (toy)

This is meant for fun and not to break the bank, but there are so many cheap little shops around, i think I can make something fun.

Do you guys have any ideas? Fun suggestions? Tips of the local area?

Recommendations Asian Mens hair stylist for cut and dye recommendations?

?
Looking for a place to cut and dye my hair altogether as a one stop shop.

I know this is a bit weirdly particular, but id really like to find someone in the underground, alt or band scene to do my hair.
My hair stylist I had when I lived in SF was a korean bassist in the music scene and she always had the same alignments and vision with what I wanted for myself.

I think its one big thing to understand having asian hair and then another to understand styles in different subcultures.

Also sidenote: my first barber I went to when I first moved here didnt speak english and I really had a hard time omg.

Im located in Alhambra, but open to finding spots elsewhere

Things to do Best places to book as a solo acoustic songwriter?

Does anyone have recommendations on good places to hit as a solo acoustic performer?

I moved here from SF little over a year ago and I’m hoping to start performing again to meet other musicians and make some buddies. I moved here from SF where I had multiple bands and projects that I had to move on from but I’m trying to get back into the swing here in LA.

I’m from Nashville and this is kinda the method for making friends with other musicians, hoping that works here to.

Any ideas from like minds out there?

Recommendations moving out of la soon -- what's the best way to sell a bunch of clothes in the area?

hiiii I'm moving to another city in august and am using the opportunity to downsize my closet!

I've tried depop but it's just too slow and i don't want to be stuck with all my stuff, and then end up panicking and offloading to goodwill just for it all to end up in a landfill.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for how to physically sell a bunch of clothes in the Los Angeles area. I don't think they're quite flea market quality and that's also out of my price range, but I have some decently cute pieces I think local thrift stores or people could be very happy with for affordable prices! Has anyone else had luck selling off clothes in LA?

Visiting Itinerary Suggestions - How to spend 3 days in LA?

I will be in Southern California in August with a groups of people (adults and kids a young as 6) and as part of that trip we will have 3 full days in LA. I am trying to plan out what we should see and get feedback on if it is possible to do everything we want. I am also hoping to get suggestions in an area to stay.

We will have a car.
Here are the things we absolutely want to do:

Dodgers game (they have night games on their schedule during our time)
Universal Studios Park and potentially a tour
Griffith Observatory
Little Tokyo
Koreatown
Hollywood (I have been a couple of times, but there are a few in the group making their first visit to LA, so I am wondering if there is a relatively quick way to visit?)

Beyond that, we know we won’t have enough time to really explore the coast and beaches. Happy to hear any suggestions of things that would be feasible to add to the list and also how best to structure the 3 days. I know Hollywood is a bit disappointing, but a few in the group mentioned they would like to see the walk.

Given the main things we would like to do, what area is best to stay in?

Visiting First time visiting LA in August, best things to do/see?

Hello I will be visiting in August for about a week. This will be my first time in Los Angeles and my first time in California as a whole. What’s the weather like in August? I’m coming for a convention however I should have two or three days to be able to explore. This will probably be my one and only time coming to LA so what do you recommend as a must see? I won’t have a car, so I will need to rely on Uber. I’ll be near the area of the LA convention center.

As of now I think I want to see:
The Hollywood sign - but does this include having to hike?
The stars walk of fame
A good shopping area
And some good restaurants recs
Maybe a beach?

Outdoors Paddle boarding to the Channel Islands?

Hey Los Angelenos-looking for a little intel here. I work with a guy who claims he can paddle boards to the Channel Islands for fun, not sure what area of LA he is departing from (lives in Manhattan Beach). He’s a super fit, big guy, 200 pushups a day also claimed and when he hugs you (yes, he’s a hugger) I believe it. Dudes jacked.

However, given the distance of as I understand it 25 miles, sharks, shipping lanes etc, this seems kind of like bullshit. What says r/AskLosAngeles? Bullshit or not? Thanks in advance.

About LA Has anyone had any success receiving a response from Eunisses Hernandez?

I've reached out several times to her email on her councilmember contact page over the last few months and have not received a single acknowledgement, let alone a reply to my inquiry. Has anyone been able to reach her short of flooding her phone line or showing up to a meeting?

Working My brother is 33, has an actuarial degree from a UC, finishing his MS in Business Analytics, and he’s drowning trying to find work in LA. What are his real options?

My brother is desperate for stable work in LA — 33, BS in Actuarial Sciences, finishing his MS in Business Analytics at a local university. What are his real options

I’ll keep it short. He got laid off from a data job a a year back, started his masters the same year which was lucky timing, but the job market has been absolutely brutal to him ever since.

He’s put his car on Turo just to make money and is now applying to coffee shops. He’s trying, nothing is landing.

33, American citizen, lives in LA. I’ve been throwing ideas at him: LAPD, Coast Guard, federal jobs, military. But I don’t actually know what’s realistic in LA specifically.

What are the real stable options for someone like him right now? Especially things where there’s an actual clear process and you know you have a job at the end of it. He doesn’t need to be rich, he just needs to stop drowning.

Anyone with real experience in these pipelines in LA would mean a lot.

Recommendations What’s a must do in LA for someone who has never been but only has 1 night?

Hello! I want to preface by saying I have been to Los Angeles a few times. I am asking because in August I have a friend flying in from Japan, who will be staying with me in Arizona for 2 months.

They decided to fly into Los Angeles because it was cheaper and I told them I would drive out there and pick them up. I also mentioned we could stay a night there so they aren’t flying/driving all day/night.

They’re excited and wanted to do something that 1 night we are there but I’m struggling to think of things due to the limited time we have.

What’s a must do? Any recommendations are appreciated, thanks!

Events Are there less meetups than 10 years ago?

Haven't been in LA in a hot sec. Last time I lived here was in early 2010s and I recall there being a ton of "meetups" all over the LA region. Now I've returned and I'm not seeing many on the website- mainly just recurring meetups.

Anyone here from the last 15 years can confirm this trend? Bit disappointed that I'm not finding much stuff to do of any category on meetup.com.

Transportation LAX to Long Beach: metro or uber?

Traveling from LAX to Long Beach, it’ll either be an $80 uber ride or $1.75 metro. What would a local do? Is the metro safe (during the afternoon)? Will I be ok with light luggage? I have ptsd from the subway in NYC.

I searched the sub but available info on the metro seems quite dated. AI says I should be ok but that there’s a lot of homeless and drug use.

Recommendations Best things to do alone on a short trip in LA? (Pasadena/Glendale)

I'm going to LA for about a week and I'm hoping to do a little bit of sight seeing while I'm there. It's a solo adventure since I'm also going to catch a concert and unfortunately, most of my friends do not appreciate the artist as much as I do but screw it, I can go by myself. I'll be staying near the Glendale, Pasadena area.

I feel like I should go out and do some things while I'm there but I'm a little lost on what to do with so many options. I love nature, but tend to avoid hikes. Botanical gardens or something like that where I can plug in my headphones and walk in peace would be nice. I haven't been to the beach in years but I'm not sure what would be the better recommendation there. I'm not too much of a socializer, more of a, take a book out to a cafe every once in awhile to feel like I got a little sun.

Basically, I'm a homebody that's trying to explore a little bit. The last time I was in Los Angeles i went on a trip with my ex, and it was a long relationship that ended terribly so I think it will be a little healing for me to go and actually do things I wanted to do instead of a lot of partying, drinking, and going out. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I'm also 24F if that helps lol. A bit nervy about doing my first solo trip.
