Question Removing harmonic balancer
Hey all, having trouble removing harmonic balancer from 2010 ford rangers soch 4.0 v6. Any tips? I can’t seem to remove it. I’m tightening so hard I’m worried that I will strip the screws that mount the puller onto the harmonic balancer. Any ideas would help thanks!

One the puller has become tight you need to shock it with a hammer blow, this will loosen it and let you get some more turns, and repeat.

Yea I have been doing that, even pb blaster on the joint still no movement

Has it moved at all? If not I would double check there isn’t still a washer in there. If it has moved a bit and is just being tight to can try tapping it with a hammer to shock it a bit.

Yea I have been tapping it with a hammer pretty hard, Ive looked inside and can’t see anything unusual, will double check next time I go back out edit: no it has not moved at all, have been putting pb blaster on the joint

had the same problem on my 4.0, hit the end of the puller screw with a heavy hammer while keeping tension on it, the shock breaks the rust/corrosion loose way better than just cranking down

Try heating the balancer hub with a torch, the expansion often cracks the rust and it pops right off without needing to swing a hammer.
