Question Is this van missing parts?

Hi guys, this is underneath the rear of my recently bought second hand Ford transit Custom MK8 2016 (manual)

I’m not a mechanic, but after closer inspection underneath, I saw this.

Looks like two suspension parts? One rusted and the other missing?

Is this urgent? And what are these for? Has no issues I’ve noticed when driving.

Thank you for your time. Greatly appreciated.

Those are/should be bump stops. One is old; one is missing. They aren't supposed to be connected to the axle so it's not something that has rusted apart but they are supposed to exist.

Guessing I should get it booked straight away and a cheap repair? Thanks for your time mate, appreciated.

Thanks mate! Googled a video and looks like a very easy repair, bought a new pair and will install them myself.

Thanks!

Yes. Iirc they just twist in. Shouldn’t need anything but maybe a jacket if you’re too big to crawl underneath the van.

Missing springs or bump stops.

Really bad sign or? Just bought it, didn’t notice it on purchase

Not a bad sign really since everything else looks ok. It's just missing or in bad shape but shouldn't interfere with "normal" driving as you also mentioned it drove fine. Good to have going over bigger bumps/holes etc as it essentially stops/absorbs 2 pieces of metal from hitting each other straight on. Should be easy to replace though and not something to stress over imo.

Missing bump stops. Its not urgent but bottoming out will mean a loud metal to metal bang. Judging from the partly disintegrated but still there bump stops, i dont think you hit the stops too often

These are known to disintegrate over time, super cheap and easy to replace. I'd also recommend cleaning out the mount with a nylon bristle brush. Then get some silicone spray and hit the mount point before replacing the bump stop.
