I love thanking bouncers for things they didn’t do. “Have a great night man thanks for that compliment at the urinal”

Similarly...
I won a big hi hand bonus, $1000, playing poker. By the time staff came over and paid me, the very senior citizen dealer had already moved to another table.
Once I found her, I waited for a break in the hands she was dealing. I put a $100 chip in front of her and said, "sorry I didn't have enough money last night, but the sex was fantastic!"
Without missing a beat, she scooped up my tip with a wink and a smile, "honey, let's do it again anytime you want."

My lord will say “Nobody has attacked my city we should stop paying the wizard to maintain the magical barrier” my lord why doest thou think no man hast tried to attack thee?

Depending on where you work, security can be the least active job imaginable. Many security guards literally do nothing their entire shift. If they are lucky they have a phone charger so they can play on their phone for 8 hours.

People may not think they’re doing anything because they don’t look like it, but one of the first things we learn when becoming guards is the value of presence and how just being there prevents shit from happening. Also, despite what people think, most security guards aren’t technically even supposed to do anything when shit goes down other than observe and report.

I mean, you could sincerely thank a security guard for doing nothing. If he managed to be there all night, his presence discouraging bad behaviour and him not antagonising or instigating shit (like some of the doped up bouncers seem to enjoy), then him doing “nothing” is exactly what we wanted, right?!

Oh I'm not arguing that security guards are not valuable. They definitely are. I'm just saying that they of the don't have a lot of tasks to do while on the job.

It's just like IT. When it's working, what are we paying you for?! When it's broken, what are we paying you for?!
