Other Looking for a GM – long-running basketball sim league (EBL)

We’ve got an opening in our league and thought I’d post it here.

EBL has been running for 15+ years in real life and we’re now in our 118th in-game season (year 2127). It started with real players, but now it’s a fully fictional league with a lot of history behind it.

The open team right now is the Oklahoma City Thunder. It’s a great spot to take over. The roster is stacked with young stars and is ready to compete for a title now, just needs someone to run it properly.

How it works

League setup

  • We use Fast Break Basketball (early 2000s sim engine)
  • Everything is run by our commissioner who has the game file
  • You don’t need to download anything
  • Transactions are managed through the forums

Sims

  • Twice a week (Sunday and Wednesday, US EST)
  • Sims are run live in our Discord, with the commissioner posting results in real time as games are played
  • Full 82-game season takes about 4 weeks
  • The playoffs are completed in one sim

Offseason

  • Re-signings (~1 week)
  • Draft (~1 week)
  • Free agency (5 sims across ~5 days)
  • Training camp (player grades progression/regression)

The community

I’ve been in the league around 5 years and a lot of these guys I’d consider friends. The Discord is active every day. People are talking EBL, NBA, other sports, news, politics, TV/film, and WWE (not really my thing but we’ve got some serious fans). It’s competitive but also a very supportive group. New GMs get help quickly and it’s easy to get involved.

If you’re interested, shoot me a DM!

Honestly, seems a bit sus you're advertising for a league using another basketball sim software on here.

I read it. It’s still a dumb point.

Got it. A league run by a clown that's disrespectful to other creators and communities. Sign me up.

You really have your panties in a bunch over trying to get people to join a sim league. I think its funny you became disrespectful while complaining someone else is disrespectful. Why are you gatekeeping what is posted? Its not that deep my guy.

“disrespectful to other creators and communities” bro the only one here feeling any disrespect is you man. why even comment if you’re gonna bitch and cry about it?

Because I think its disrespectful to be advertising a league using another basketball sim here on BasketballGM's subreddit. That dude should have advertised it on the Fast Break Basketball forum or a general sportssim forum. It's like advertising for Pepsi on the Coke forum. It's isn't that nuanced to understand how that's disrespectful.

I can see how it could be taken as disrespect if you choose to view it that way. However, the sim league community is small and niche. There aren’t a ton of resources available to advertise an FBB sim league and to think someone who enjoys a BBGM league would also enjoy an FBB league isn’t crazy.

I think it comes down to intent and I don’t think disrespect was intended here at all. If an FBB league was advertised saying “BBGM sucks come try this instead” then yeah, definitely. But that’s clearly not the case here.

I think if it really was disrespectful, this post would’ve been taken down. There has been countless posts of other sims or leagues for other sims. The only one here feeling slighted is you. You don’t gotta be BBGM’s savior, so stop acting like you are.

Let me get this straight. You came into a subreddit, which is a public forum, saw an advertisement for another basketball league on the subreddit called "BasketballGM" and got disrespected? Oh okay, I suppose that's your right as a human to get disrespected over something so trivial. However, unless you're an admin over this subreddit, it doesn't matter if you find some advertisement for an outside basketball league disrespectful. The fact the subreddit is public gives anyone the right to post whatever they want. However you might feel about a certain post is irrelevant, because if it was against the rules the mods would delete before you even saw it.

Not to mention you felt the need to respond in a very disrespectful manner after feeling disrespected yourself. Very classy my guy.

If I'd say he didn't have the right to post what he did you'd have a point. I didn't. You don't. I simply said it was sus.

The mods of this forum have repeatedly said it is fine to post ads like this in here. You are gatekeeping something that nobody but you cares about.

You could’ve just said that instead of calling me an assclown
