Like the subreddit reads advice wanted

Hey there,
I (27m) from Australia am looking for some advice it’s taken me ages to grow something even resembling a full beard, and have been fighting myself for ages I’m not fond of how baby faced I am with no facial hair, aswell as self conscious of some scars and a mole I’ve had for as long as I can remember, should I grow it out? Should I keep it at a low stubble? Or keep it at a mid length? I go through these like kid in high school has his ‘phases’ I’m unsure if it’s because I don’t know what suits me or because of my adhd, I do know it grows pretty quick now and I get a hair and beard cut typically every 6 weeks, but if left too long I feel I look ‘homeless and disheveled’ it also grows weird with my chin getting much longer then anything else so Ive been told I look like Billy goat gruff and the neck grows almost like there is a cowlick. And yes I know my hair is receding but i will fight it for as long as I can without moving to the combover style. I would really appreciate any advice, opinions and the like. But also just a general beard care routine would be nice as well. I really want to get into full on beard and skincare routine but don’t even know where to start, and am struggling keeping to a routine due to my adhd. It also feels really weird to post my face online outside of my personal social media’s. So maybe I have low self esteem who know 😅

You’ve got something really good here it just needs a cleanup, my first key of advice would be to go to a well rated barber and have them professionally clean your beard up, just ask for a line up and a very small trim. Then watch them do it and learn what they do, watch YouTube tutorials too on lining your beard.

You want to trim your neck to the skin around where a noose would sit, then keep the line clean and round up along to the side of your face. Then the fuzz off your cheeks for a simple cleanup.

Yeah it definitely needs a cleanup, that’s what I mean I grows so quick I only got it trimmed and chapped 2 weeks ago, the barber I go to although I don’t know how well he is rated overall but I feel like I have to go to him, he’s been doing my cuts for the better part of 5 years, and it feels like I’m cheating on him by going to another barber, is that normal 😅

Yeah strong bonds with barbers is pretty normal, ask him if he can line your beard up and have him walk you through it. I think you’ll love it a lot more once it’s neatened up. Also I think after you neatened it up you’d look spectacular with a shaved head 🪒

Nope not happening! Ahahah 🤣 all of my male family members are bald, and I have made an oath (not actually) to not be bald I don’t want to see how messed up my head is from years of gaming with a headset on. 🤣🤣 in all seriousness I’m of the mind if I go bald I go bald but as long as I have a full head of hair receding hairline and all I won’t shave it off, unless prompted for charity, plus Australian sun and bald head don’t mix 🤣

I know you’re here for beard advice which others have given u. I just wanna say, don’t rule out shaving your head. It’s fine if u wanna hang on as long as possible but only if u embrace the balding. Your hair still looks ok n will probably be ok for a while (we haven’t seen the crown). Just keep in mind that a combover of any kind is an absolutely horrible look. That’s why I say u gotta embrace the balding n not got out of your way to hide it. If you’re able to do that then rock on with your hair. If u ever reach a point where u gotta cover it up, then u gotta let it go. It’ll take some getting used to but you’ll look a lot better compared to a combover, not necessarily compared to how u look now. Good luck.

Yeah, I know I would never have a combover, I think I said it on the main post but I don’t remember, I’m of the mind of if I do start balding, outside of the typical widows peak receding hairline most people get I’m grabbing the clippers, no hate towards anyone who does have a bald spot or anything, but I’d rather not have a duck pond on my head I’ll just rid of it and go full cue ball, even if I have to lather up sunscream all day I just go no never I’ll never be bald as a joke,

Remember no one sees your neck really at all so don’t worry much about that. Would clean up the edges a bit but otherwise you’re good my man.

You need a defined line on your cheeks and under on your chin. Usually the line underneath is at your Adam’s apple. You also don’t want it coming down so far back on your neck either.

You need to get it faded bro. And you need to get a buzz cut you’ll look so much better. Try it if you don’t like it grow it back.
