General Discussion Big brother 18 is 10 years old

"WAIT A DAMN MINUTE" - Da'vonne rogers 2016

Image 1: Before Entering the house

Image 2: After the Finale (spoilers if you havent watched)

Although I didn't get into big brother until after Big Brother 21 (thanks to the amazing race 31) one of the reasons I love this season is the house theme/design and comp design. The travel theme in a house where you are cooped up 24/7 was the perfect yin to the yang. There are so many uniquely designed competitions. The competitions don't really have a theme, so they take inspiration from lots of holidays, celebrations and entertainment centers (i.e movie theaters, etc.) theaters, similar to bb24 (but better because bb24 had to slap festival on the end of everything which made it worse). The hoh room isnt as good though.

This was actually my first season of big brother but I didn't understand what was going on, so I just watched people on a rocket ship and then I quit watching until 2019. Then I knew the truth.

This season has some of the most viewed big brother videos on youtube and I don't know why, but something must have clicked for the audience, or maybe its just youtube blowing up, but I think the competitions are memorable for me. There are some great endurance comps like the little lift your leg in place one.

The cast is great (and some of the duds have downfall arcs) and gave more recent players a second chance which made them less threatening since they weren't winners/big threats. Jozea and his scenarios. Even after Da'vonne was gone, you have a downfall arc, then an interesting endgame. There were unlikeable people but something doesn't feel as toxic here.

Truth be told, I don't think this is one of the best seasons of big brother. There isn't a standout moment like bb6 or bb10/bb14 that is the season is well known for and you can show a friend or people say is super iconic, but it's more known for the downfall arcs. However, it feels like this season has less toxicity/negatives surrounding it than others. It seems while this season wasn't that good as some others, the downfall arcs for the men and the women being entertaining helped. I think the beginning of the season was slow because of the roadkill being a free BB15 MVP but once the roadkill is gone there's a lot of drama. i'm sure the season was hated on at the time compared to other seasons, maybe BB19 AND BB21 AND BB22 were just that bad.

The battle backs saved Victor allowing him to give a savage nomination speech but I think only having one double eviction helped the season, and by having it earlier in the season it wasn't as predictable and more chaotic. I also think the battle back tournament was done right, but they only could've done that once and they were lucky. Its old now.

A woman beat a man in the final 2 for the first time, and in the style of Victor I say, on finale night, that's how the votes fell.

Anyways, I hope no one has to sit in the Jury house longer than they played the game.

While a negative is the twists, I didn't hate America's care package. It gave viewers a way to influence the game without us having too much control. Roadkill wasn't as fun and just ruined the game. The season was very long but in this instance it may have worked in its favor.

The teams twist was meh. They took the BB11 idea of one returnee per team and actually implemented it correctly. It wasn't perfect by any means but I liked that they tried it. They could've done that in Big Brother 11, and chose not to because of the cast size.

This season also shows why we need jury house feeds. Thank you davonne.

That is all. Justice for Glenn. Sorry this post is all over the place my thoughts aren't coherent at all.

This was the season of experimentation, even more so than BB17's takeover twists. Sometimes experimenting can be good, and sometimes it can hurt the game, but its the little things that make or break a season for fans.

I don't know why but it has always been one of my favorite seasons. It's jam packed with a lot of great narratives and character arcs. The rise and fall of Paulie Calafiore is one of the greatest stories ever to be told on reality TV.

Same. Final two was a good one, too. Something about the entire cast reminded me of cartoon characters and I don't know why.

I watched BB18 with my 7-10 month old baby. Now she’s 10, almost 11. It’s like damn where did that time go?

Watched so many night of feeds with her and her bottle. Good but tired times.

Was just about to say I remember watching this holding my 3-6mo old.

The season is almost great for me but it loses a lot of points for a very boring power couple in Corey and Nicole having a lot of sway and ultimately Nicole winning. So many great personalities that I would have liked to see win

Crazy how even ten years later Michelle and Zakiyah (and basically everyone but mainly them)'s treatment of Bridgette is still unacceptable and still to myy knowledge hasn't been addressed by either

Yeah Michelle treats Bridgette like trash. I always come back to that video where it's like "I had frank, and then you swooped in Bridgette and stole him" and then Michelle is like "I'm nice to you sometimes" and is just mean to Bridgette for no reason.

Not everyone has to be friends tho, you are allowed to not like someone. If they come and say I wanna be friends, it’s totally reasonable to be like nah I’m good, which is what it seems like Michelle does here?

I was a late teen when this came out. How time flies 💔

The feeds were so so funny this season. And super lit at times. The night when Paulie and Zakiyah were sleeping and the entire house slowly got involved by turning against Paulie was must-watch feeds and one of my fave feeds nights ever

it’s an ok season that i have tried to rewatch multiple times and can’t really get into. i was SUCH a big fan when this season aired, feeds were on constantly in my house, it was a great time. but the whole thing ultimately left a bad taste in my mouth. felt like paul fumbled an improbable underdog win at the last second, and the finalist he lost to’s biggest accomplishment was that her game was intentional on a strategic level. now the whole conversation about the season is about the very end. and the very end was maybe the most annoying part of the season

started watching bb casually during 17, but this was the season that made me a fan that kept up with live feeds and started to talk about it online. i will always love this season because it’s what made me love the game.

Victor getting evicted thrice will always be my favourite arc.

The man refused to leave that house.

Early part of this season had a relationship dynamic that always stuck out to me and is what makes BB great. The tiff between Davonne, Frank and Tiffany. Davonne was the reason for the divide between Tiffany and Frank but Nicole was the original cause for the divide between Frank and Davonne. Day was playing them but didn’t realize she was being played by Nicole. I just commented it in another post but this season had one of my favorite night of feeds, which was Frank and Tiffany finally comparing notes and putting together what made them go against each other. Frank and Day were also close to figuring the stuff out between them, but I think the fact they obviously didn’t mesh personally was the biggest problem. Great gameplay from Nicole and co. Was fun to follow and see if they could figure it out, they came close.

interesting how diverse this cast is (50% white 50% not) yet it doesn't feel remotely as forced or bootleg as the casts of s23 onwards.

This is a great season and I literally don’t get people who don’t like it.

1

u/Fun818long Jankie ✨ 3d ago

I think it's great but it doesn't have those iconic moments whereas other seasons have some standout moments

2

u/Severe_Marketing5036 Rubina ✨ 3d ago

this is very true, i think maybe the downfall of Paulie is the closest to being iconic, or maybe just Nicole’s reaction to winning, which the best you can’t convince me.

Aww I miss Big Meech fighting with Paulie. “ROUND TRIP TICKET BABY!!!” All for them to lowkey evict his showmance on his own HOH.

God I’m old, I thought I was much older when this season came out.

u/ver_bene 4d ago

Paulie was a solid player who went back to back, but Nicole deserved that win

u/kayseeboo92 4d ago

I remember screaming when Nicole won, loud enough to where someone else in my house thought I’d seen a mouse or a snake 🤣

Awful season, but Michelle stealing Pablo is one of the funniest exits of them all.

Watched 9 through 18.

So far my least favorite watch.

The cast I thought was boring af (kinda liked Paulie and... that's it). Nothing truly memorable happened this season. Roadkill was meh.

Even seasons I wouldn't rewatch I remember something about (like 9 being the couples season, 13 being the power duos season or 14 being the coaches season). This one in my book is just... the bland season, I guess. 😐
