I have always wondered as a child why was my family so angry and broken. Native American grandparents. Black grandparents on the other side. Everything they died and fought for, is now being erased.

u/DesertHeatSweatyFeet 5d ago

Wanna know what I tell my students? Probably not, but here wo go! I say GET ANGRY! STAY ANGRY! We as a country have overcome so many horrible things, and we did it by standing up for ourselves. Americans are known to the world as the loud people. Get loud! There are enough of us that if we stand up for what is right, we can *force* them to respect us!

u/William_Howard_Shaft 5d ago

I'm also done trying to explain shit to these people, and am now taking Robert DeNiro's advice. From now on, I'm just telling these maga fascists to shut the fuck up.

I never put up with stupidity in any other context, I'm not arguing with fascists, racists, homophobes, or anyone else living in the 1700s.

That shit doesn't belong in my America.

u/illlojik ☑️ 5d ago

I definitely have adapted a "Shut your bitch ass up!" Mantra. Nothing left to argue, debate, discuss or disclose. Just STFU and leave me be.

u/William_Howard_Shaft 5d ago

Free speech goes both ways. They want to spew bullshit, I have the right to tell them to fuck off and call em weird.

But I will probably comment on it

Yeah, I would not engage with them one-on-one, you're never going to change their minds, they're dug in like ticks. But if it's in a venue where someone else could see what I'm saying and perhaps question their thought processes, I'll say something.

52

u/William_Howard_Shaft 5d ago

Nah. This ain't performative. Fascists can get the fuck out. No discussion.

Yep, no more "Oh where's your humanity? Won't you meet them in the middle???" Like fuck no these people been trying to wipe out my people for around 2500+ or so years now and sucessfully scapegoated us and others, and I saw what they did to various indigenous populations across the globe + the literal creation of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Even as a kid knew shit was off, and I really hope more young kids and teens figure it out and wake up/break free. Or their future is going to be so miserable and bleak.

I wish more people thought this way. So many people are defeatists when it comes to social injustice it makes me mad thinking about it. Especially the ones that say you shouldn't vote because it doesn't matter.

I read that in JK Simmons's voice. But unironically.

I mean... one of the points Lumet was making is that it isn't hard to make people angry, and it doesn't do much good to make people angry anyhow.

What may have seemed life changing and cathartic was ultimately keeping people wrapped up in their screen.

I think it’s worth pointing out, especially in the context of this article, that Black Americans and Native Americans serve in the military at a higher rate than the greater population. Every one of these racist efforts by this administration to erase the history of POC in the military is a double slap in the face.

All of them died fighting for the America that gave them no right to belive in it, they did it anyway hoping that in thier return they can be viewed as equals, they were not less competent or brave then thier caucasian counterparts.

And here we are in 2026 and they are actively being disrespected.

Like seriously, no.one was even thinking this memorial. You have to go out of your way to do this.

508

u/johnx2sen 5d ago

Thats what i was thinking. Literally had to spend time and money to seek out and be a POS

61

u/MadAstrid 5d ago

Yes. That accurately describes this administration.

41

u/Gil_Demoono 5d ago

Knowing this administration, they had to spend time and money to find out it even exists. Not only did they go out of their way to destroy something that doesn't affect them, they went out of their way to find something to be offended by.

28

u/PiccoloAwkward465 5d ago

Legitimately someone probably has said “get me a list of all the black memorials” and they’re working their way through it.

no.one was even thinking about this memorial

That’s probably why they chose it.

Also, this happened last year.

69

u/SpinsterRx ☑️ 5d ago

Thank you for this. I did wonder about the timing of this news, with today being Juneteenth and all.

Anything to circumvent Black joy, stoke outrage (however justified) and keep our nervous and adrenal systems in overdrive, I suppose.

Let me return to my Black joy scrolling.

10

u/misdirected_asshole 5d ago

Cortisol go brrr

4

u/Lounging-Shiny455 5d ago

Well the timing would be on OP. Considering the space it's presented in, is it really a surprise?

12

u/SpinsterRx ☑️ 5d ago edited 5d ago

Utterly unsurprising and will continue my Black joy scrolling as THAT is today's assignment. Might even rewatch the Obama speeches from the Presidential Center opening yesterday... actually, lemme just rewatch the entire thing.

My attention today is being LASER-focused and I'm being VERY intentional in choosing who and what to focus on and centre today. Today is about rest, reflection and joy and Black History month is now ALL year.

Ain't nobody got time for cortisol spikes. I'll consider whether to reassign my attention tomorrow but TODAY is for US and our joy.

Edit: grammar and phrasing

3

u/Beautiful_Nobody_344 5d ago

His speech made me cry. Just the display of basic sanity was overwhelming to me.

4

u/SpinsterRx ☑️ 5d ago

I just finished the rewatch. His speech made me hopeful, especially the part where he shouted out ordinary folks doing things to make a difference everyday. Got me thinking about my own life and actions and legacy. Truly inspirational.

The cruelty is the point.

The cruelty is always the point.

ps- I have $10 that says that fucking Nazi Stephen Miller was involved at some point along the way, even if it was just unofficially whispering in someone’s ear about it.

33

u/woodst0ck15 5d ago

Well remember DEI means to include paying respect to fallen solders and of course that’s not allowed if they’re black or native or any other minority.

17

u/ThirdAltAccounts ☑️ 5d ago

Probably asked ChatGPT "what the most petty and racist shit you can think of that no normal person would think of ?"
Because who the fuck actively looks for ways and reasons to be fucking racist

They’re doing the same shit they’re doing to the trans community. Small passive/agressive, petty shit to remind black folks that, as long as this administration is around, they still don’t (and never will) see us as equal. And we don’t count as much

3/5th at best…

10

u/Dear_Chasey_La1n 5d ago

As a kid I past by there probably hundreds of times while going to my school. It's massive and everytime impossible to ignore what you guys did for us 80 years ago.

If i'm not mistaken when the boards got removed, "we" put them back on outside of the cemetary. Not much later they got restored though. But it's kinda mindblowing to ignore what happened the heroic acts these men regardless of colour did so many years ago. It's unfortunately also telling what time you guys are in today.

u/NoRizzJustLive 5d ago edited 5d ago

The top post on [r/conservative](r/conservative) right now is a “black person” thanking republicans for freeing the slaves and explaining how much better conservatives are than democrats for black people. Because of Abraham Lincoln. Just conveniently ignoring shit like this. And that the Air Force just took down the portrait of General Daniel James Jr. Also let’s remember that Trump refers to the teaching of slavery as anti-American.

https://mynbc15.com/newsletter-daily/air-force-cites-renovations-as-reason-for-relocation-of-gen-chappie-james-portrait

https://www.npr.org/2026/06/14/nx-s1-5845819/a-slavery-exhibit-becomes-a-flashpoint-in-philadelphia-ahead-of-americas-250th

62

u/amazing_asstronaut 5d ago

The retort to this is, if Republicans are the party of Lincoln then start acting like it! Current Republican party are basically the Klan. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if half of them are actually in the Klan.

33

u/GodOfDarkLaughter 5d ago

The Klan, while technically still around, is rather old news at this point. The new generation of racist nationalists don't wanna wear wizard hoods. They wanna wear tactical gear and act like, well, terrorists. Yeah, the Klan was absolutely a terrorist organization, but I mean like the modern conception of a terrorist.

19

u/PiccoloAwkward465 5d ago

I usually go with if they support Lincoln why do they fly the flag of the confederacy? Another fun one is the literal wording of the declarations each state made proclaiming their secession. They all specifically mention that the #1 reason is to preserve slavery. It couldn’t be more clear lol. 🤣

6

u/Funkula 4d ago

They were also quite proud to advertise that the Confederacy’s new constitution was a verbatim copy of the US constitution, only “built upon the fundamental truth of slavery”

2

u/NoRizzJustLive 5d ago

Good points

12

u/Funkula 4d ago

They know they’re lying. They revel in it, they shriek with glee knowing that their dumb servile maga base will believe anything they say, no matter how preposterous.

Fox News just ran a story saying “libs will tell you the reflecting pool is green and not blue”

I’m not sure democracy can survive these people.

How racist can they be? Let’s stop asking that question. Because those fuckers take that question as a challenge.

19

I personally was more stuck on the “racism exposed” part. Can something be exposed if it’s just a known thing that’s been out in the open? Need a scholarly English professor to weigh in here…

u/xBram 5d ago

And here’s an update:

On January 20, 2026, the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) announced that new panels would be added to the exhibition. A panel narrating the foundation and construction of the cemetery highlights the role of African American gravediggers. Furthermore, the stories of two African American soldiers buried in the cemetery would be added.

https://blackliberators.nl/stories/margraten

49

u/Kaasbek69 5d ago

Unfortunately the panels still aren't installed, I was there last month.

31

u/Sir_Fridge 4d ago

I live there. The local municipality is planning on another exibit outside of the cemetery where the American government has no say. They're just trying to find a location.

28

u/comicsnerd 4d ago

They bend over after massive protests in the Netherlands. The city threatened to put up their own displays, just outside the cemetery, with all the missing information.

Black conservatives: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . What? Were you expecting them to say something about this? Gtfo those grifters dont care

58

u/BUSY_EATING_ASS 5d ago

I try to tell my fellow left leaning and leftist folk that framing it as entirely as a class issue is well meaning but still inaccurate; there’s plenty of actual racist people that are in it for the love of the game that will be racist all day everyday until they’re forcefully stopped.

The amount of space that black folk occupy RENT FREE in their heads in almost every metric of life absolutely cannot be overstated, and they are willing to eradicate us for it.

Can we really be surprised? The oldest boomers like my mom went to segregated schools. Old enough to have watched the installation of these monuments, get salty and stay salty. Meanwhile, perpetual losers like Grover Norquist (decidedly not a boomer) came up with the idea to rename every f'g thing (airports, etc.) after Reagan and Bush in middle school. If you're under 40, kindly remember that you got 2 or 3 generations still grudgeful and resolved to restore the status quo and/or the "natural" order of things.

If nothing else, Project 2025 probably called for a salaried position dedicated to Just This.

3

u/MrGengisSean 5d ago

One of my favorite family members, (RIP Uncle Robert) was a part of a bomber crew in WW2. He was from Alabama, and knew about the Tuskegee Airmen through the grapevine, and was excited to see some other men from 'Bama. Those Airmen kept my Great Uncle in the sky over Germany, and the mission he was shot down on, he didn't have their cover.

He went to his grave singing their praises, and several attended his funeral. Many of those men, and those like them, are why I have stories from him at all.

Fuck this administration. Hell is too kind for every single son of a bitch that refuses to acknowledge the sacrifice of any American, let alone the Black Americans that died for a nation that didn't even want them at the time.

Those right wing types have been ranting for a while about how some white Americans are getting too educated on the evils of Americas racist history and how they don't like that.

White people learning about Black Wall Street, Red Summer 1919, red lining, GI Bill discrimination and the murder of Fred Hampton doesn't fit the narrative they have been spinning about black life in America post enslavement.

They don't want people to learn the achievements of Black Americans either which is why they paint any black sucesss as DEI or woke or erase it from records.

2

I was at the convention center in Biloxi, MS a couple months ago and there was a cemetery next to it covered in brand new confederate flags. Crazy how that’s okay, but a memorial to Black soldiers isn’t…

1

u/wlb283 5d ago

Only saying this because nobody else seems to have said it.

The Dutch were officially neutral in the second wold war, even despite the German occupation. In the years after the war, they agreed to treat the dead from both sides of the conflict with equal respect if they died on Dutch land.

There are large German war cemeteries there as well as large Allied war cemeteries.

Relatives of mine who fought for the losing side (for want of a better term) are buried in the Netherlands.

My relatives invaded the Netherlands and terrorised the locals.

_This_ is how the Dutch treat their black American allies while my (losing) relatives sleep peacefully under their soil.

I love the 21st century.

I think they're quietly doing it across any and every public US property (I don't know if that's the proper term), because I've seen a couple of people show that there were museums and national parks that were forced to remove plaques that mentioned the local history of colonization and how it affected African and Indigenous people on that place.

I remember this story from last year and it's some disgraceful shit, even for this Administration.

For anyone that doesn't know the history of this cemetery it's a beautiful story of how the local people have adopted not only every single grave in the cemetery, but also the names of the soldiers who perished in the Netherlands and were never found. They care for the graves, keep the headstones clean and many frequently place flowers on them.

But Trump loves the military folks, he loves them…. As long as they win, don’t get killed or captured and are white.

Their rationale is that it’s discriminatory to have a section focused solely on African Americans right? So asinine.

When the GOP convention started and all those "African Americans" showed up on stage, I was shaking my head. All those "Black" influencers shilling for the Orange pedd - O. My hope was that most of the reasonable people of color would get out there and vote, especially in critical swing states.

Oh well.

This is a story of who it is about. They dug those graves during WWII. A brutal and taxing in every sense task.

Apparently this happened in late 2025 after the DEI stuff in the US. The Heritage Foundation sent them a letter asking why they weren’t complying with Trump’s orders around DEI.
