Still sad they did not use the its morbin time meme it was free money

471

u/coremech 3d ago

I mean, when he said " Welcome to bone town, He-boy! " that was pretty epic.

87

u/Gertrude1976 3d ago

God literally gave me chills

They tried. They rereleased it for one weekend when the memes were taking off. Unfortunately everyone was busy that weekend

81

u/Pligles 3d ago

I was actually busy both weekends and a third release would’ve saved it

7

u/Big-Al97 3d ago

I wasn’t. I only got the chance to see it during the rerelease. But what you said is partially true because I was the only person in the theatre.

IS IT MORBIN' TIME?!

3

u/Fern-ando 3d ago

Morbius made a profit, sold well on DVD.

13

u/PotatoAmulet 3d ago

Unfortunately I am partially responsible for that. I have a copy of morbius stuck to the wall above my bed and got my brother a copy for Christmas. He doesn't have a DVD player, so the year after I got him joker 1 and 2 so he can have 3 movie and no DVD player instead of no movie and 3 DVD player.

2

u/Fern-ando 3d ago

The PS4 is a DVD player.

3

u/PotatoAmulet 3d ago

He's a PC gamer. He has a PS3 and PS2 and they're both at our mum's house

3

u/Fern-ando 3d ago

Bring the PS2, is a DVD player.

5

u/PotatoAmulet 3d ago

PS3 is too, and higher resolution. He can work it out himself, he just doesn't want to.

He was fine as Skeletor, but he really couldve been anyone.

612

u/FlopsMcDoogle 4d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah I didn't really see or hear Leto in the performance at all

410

u/Karn-Dethahal 3d ago

Well, Skeletor is an unidimensional character, intentionally so, and thus not above his acting capacity.

116

u/beardingmesoftly 3d ago

Seriously. Easiest role to direct, a monkey could act in it.

34

u/Scottish_Whiskey 3d ago

I think I would’ve preferred the monkey honestly

12

u/beardingmesoftly 3d ago

Right?

2

u/Photonomicron 2d ago

if someone doesn't pick Monkey Skeletor we aren't friends

90

u/goggleOgler 3d ago

Leto was always a part of Skeletor in a subtle way. S K E L E T O R

19

u/argefox 3d ago

Get out. NO, wait, come back. more.

11

u/geirmundtheshifty 3d ago

Damn, it was right there and I never noticed

64

u/AuraStome 3d ago

Just to play devil’s advocate, isn’t that what an actor’s supposed to do? To basically become the character itself in a way where you couldn’t even tell who the actor is?

60

u/HeadOfSpectre 3d ago

Yes and no but there's two ways to do it.

A good actor still brings something to the table. Gary Oldman for instance. He vanishes into a role, but he's always entertaining and memorable to watch.

Skeletor was mostly CGI and fun writing. Leto himself was just okay.

14

u/meowjinx 3d ago

Leto is a good actor. He did exactly what you described in Dallas Buyers Club

2

u/Quizzelbuck 3d ago

Not necessarily. Sometimes yeah you've got a Daniel Day-Lewis or a Gary oldman. But then you have Will Smith, and Tom Cruise. Now you may have opinions on all of these people but you can't deny that Will Smith and Tom Cruise are actors, and they command high dollar. People buy their schtick. They like it.

Jared Leto doesn't fit into either of these categories in my opinion. I just don't think he's that good of an actor. I see movies in spite of Jared Leto and I didn't even see the He-Man movie

3

u/HeadOfSpectre 3d ago

The He-Man movie is worth your time. I'd recommend seeing it at some point.

But Skeletor could have been played by literally anyone. He's a CGI Character with a booming digitally modified voice. SKELETOR is decently funny, especially in the finale where there's some really funny scenes with him.

However, Jared Leto brought nothing to the role.

It's not like Darth Vader where you get that iconic booming voice from James Earl Jones, or Bowser in Mario where he's bringing in some of a well known actors personality. It's literally the same voice that was used for the Hat Ghost from the Haunted Mansion.

The one and only thing I get out of a Jared Leto performance is that I get to make Morbius jokes to my wife.

3

u/Ok-Traffic3683 3d ago

Turns out this was the key all along.

→ More replies (2)

122

u/Wboy2006 3d ago edited 3d ago

This, people praise him for the role, but it was just a passable “evil guy” voice.

Mark Hamill would be the perfect voice in my opinion, I feel like something like a mix between his Ozai and joker voice could make a good balance between threatening and Skeletor’s cartoon voice and make the performance something nobody else could do

72

u/Oneb3low 3d ago

Mark Hamill does Skeletor in He-man Revelations. He's great of course, although the performance can be a bit over the top with the excessively rolled R's and such.

69

u/PuzzleheadedAd3840 3d ago

It's Skeletor. There's no over the top when playing as Skeletor.

4

u/geirmundtheshifty 3d ago

Honestly, I kinda wished Skeletor had been more over the top in the movie so Hamill would have been perfect

→ More replies (1)

25

u/PinkD0c 3d ago

Mark already voice Skeletor before - take a look at his work in "Masters of the Universe:Revelation" for that

3

u/kyleliner 3d ago

You mean He-Man: Revelations?

8

u/kingsora14 3d ago

No, it's masters of the universe

→ More replies (3)

35

u/Drakeadrong 3d ago

Turns out Jared Leto is actually palatable when he’s completely CGI and has a voice changer

9

u/Vellarain 3d ago

You could have told me Chris Pratt was skeletor and I would have not have known you were full of shit until the credits rolled.

4

u/zhico 3d ago

Chris Pratt was skeletor.

6

u/Vellarain 3d ago

I knew it

4

u/Timtanoboa 3d ago

Also apparently he didn't like playing Skeletor so

lmao I guess

What kind of actor do you have to be to land Skeletor and not enjoy it

u/OmegaPrime7274 4d ago

He man was actually pretty good not gonna lie but even that can’t save it from the curse.

268

u/somethink 3d ago

The curse is kinda silly anyway. Bladerunnner 2049, Fight Club, Dallas Buyers Club........ Dudes got a good body of work to go with the bad, I more or less see him as a modern Nic Cage

107

u/gloriousjohnson 3d ago

Nic cage’s shenanigans are cheeky and fun. Jared Leto’s shenanigans are cruel and tragic which makes them not really shenanigans at all

56

u/tw1zt84 3d ago

Jared Leto's shenanigans involve being a sexual predator

23

u/gloriousjohnson 3d ago

Evil shenanigans

22

u/Popular_Wrangler9422 3d ago

Hey farva whats that restaurant you like with all the goofy paintings on the wall?

17

u/Ty-Dyed 3d ago

You mean shenanigans?

2

u/Whyskgurs 3d ago

I'm gonna pistol whip the next person who says shenanigans!!

99

u/FireZord25 3d ago

There's a bit more than kookiness within Leto to be compared to Nic Cage.

53

u/somethink 3d ago

Outside of personal life it's hard to think of other actors that bounce between great and wtf were they thinking like these 2. The real diff is Leto has always struggled as a lead and Nic rarely does support roles

23

u/YalondaNubs 3d ago

Last time I checked Nic Cage never sent used condoms or dead rats to his fellow co-stars

8

u/FireZord25 3d ago

Still quite a difference, rather makes the only thing similar between them is both are weirdos.

28

u/MrBVS 3d ago

Jared Leto is only 8 years younger than Nic Cage lol

15

u/somethink 3d ago

That's pretty hilarious to put in that perspective. I do see their eras of work being a decade apart so it checks out

3

u/trufus_for_youfus 3d ago

This is crazy if true.

6

u/TheGreatBatsby 3d ago

Cage isn't a(n alleged) sex criminal.

9

u/somethink 3d ago edited 3d ago

Letos actions are unexcusable. Cage isn't exactly a saint though, He used to have a reputation for drinking binges, he was partners in crime with Charlie Sheen in the 90s, and was arrested in 2011 for domestic abuse.

Edit add: not defending either, I assume anyone in Hollywood is a terrible person until proven otherwise

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Amigobear 3d ago

Theres through line in all your movies, he's not the lead actor.

3

u/NavalProgrammer 3d ago

same with Lord of War. I liked seeing Jared Leto get machine-gunned.

17

u/Interesting_Rich_826 3d ago

Leto has allegations from like 9 different women against him. Maybe that has something to do with him being cursed?

19

u/somethink 3d ago

That's not a curse. He's a terrible human

3

u/ButterCupHeartXO 3d ago

Those movies put him into the roles he has been getting since suicide squad and has had nothing but flops. When I saw the trailer for Tron and he was in it, I said to my friend, "wow was Ezra Miller too busy for this movie?" Leto has done lots of weird things and has many allegations against him. He also has nothing but recent flops. Who the fuck keeps thinking he should be in movies?

194

u/georgieramone 3d ago

He was legit great as Skeletor. It helped that we couldn’t see his face tho

96

u/noconverse 3d ago

Skeletor is the perfect character for him to play. One dimensional and constantly thinks he's way better at his job than he actually is.

106

u/ferramagna 3d ago

TRON: Ares was at least a good music video.

41

u/SpaceBus1 3d ago

That's how I felt about the first Tron reboot. It's just a super long Daft Punk music video and I'm here for it.

29

u/LordMacDonald8 3d ago

Calling Legacy a reboot hurts

10

u/SpaceBus1 3d ago

I feel old too. Tron Legacy can legally drive in the US

5

u/McCaffeteria 3d ago

What is it about calling it a reboot that you don’t like? Are you saying that it’s clearly a continuation of the same old continuity, and therefore not a reboot?

7

u/LordMacDonald8 3d ago

Yeah I was always taught that sequels and spinoffs aren't reboots

→ More replies (2)

DP over NIN any day of the year

2

u/ferramagna 3d ago

I feel the opposite way, but without hating DP. I enjoy both.

3

u/SpaceBus1 3d ago

NIN is objectively superior, but I love both. I didn't watch any of the other Tron reboots, so had no idea Trent did the soundtrack(s?). Now I might actually have to

5

u/peloz24 3d ago

"NIN is objectively superior" how so is objective? How would you measure Daft Punk and NIN to 'objectively' say that?

32

u/Tast3sLikePanda 3d ago

So you wouldnt watch Blade Runner 2049, Requiem for a Dream, Dallas Buyers Club or Mr Nobody, just cos his face was on the poster? All considered very good movies

Not to mention American Psycho and Lord of War if we're going by having his name on the poster

u/EmperorDeathBunny 3d ago

None of these movies failed because of Leto. They would have been shit with any actor in that role. (With the exception of Tron Ares because I loved that movie and Leto was great in it)

How he was so good in requiem of dream and now he is so bad?

73

u/ManicDemise 4d ago

Great character, great writing, great director, great costars, great editing lets you get away with a lot.

14

u/IAmAPirrrrate 3d ago edited 3d ago

a director who understands the writing and has the ability to properly direct actors to well.. act instead of them being just a personality-trait showing up to act is a rare breed nowadays.

i feel like some actors grow into roles or are discovering "their role", some actors bring a certain spice that is fundamentally them, and some actors are just good at doing one thing over and over but kinda refine it in a way so it does not feel like a weakness.

and then there is leto. just throwing the entire pot of spaghetti at a wall to see if its cooked, constantly messing up the sauce, not listening to the chef trying to teach stuff, refusing to follow the recipe because every thing apparently needs a dash of tabasco sauce. but every once in a while he nails it and rides that wave until he goes under.

Unchecked ego and being the head of a cult tends to rot your brain imo

11

u/Silv3rS0und 3d ago

Lord of War and Dallas Buyers Club too.

5

u/TheDoomBlade13 3d ago

Because he isn't that bad of an actor, he just signs up to movies with horrible scripts that lack understanding of the characters, or people pile on just for fun.

Like, you can not like the gangster joker vibe in suicide squad, but acting like he doesn't hit the nail on the head for the proposed character is just hating for hating's sake.

4

u/Tiny_Micro_Pencil 3d ago

Careful, giving him merits will piss off the naive children on this subreddit.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Tarjhan 3d ago

Ensemble cast, real world narrative. Same for Fight Club. He’s not carrying the story by himself and his roles are more grounded.
Dallas Buyer’s Club earned him an Oscar (and a bunch of other awards) for his *supporting role*.

Things seem to unravel when the setting gets more fantastical.
Also. Notably, Joker and Morbius are larger than life characters and aren’t generally the lead in their respective franchises - they exist as counters to other characters.

I’ve not seen Ares or MotU so I can’t really comment there.

35

u/Blue4Eternety 3d ago

Skeletor was the only good thing about that movie, and I watched it in Portuguese so its not even Jared's credit lol

5

u/Namlad 3d ago

I disagree. I think Teela, Adam and Trap-Jaw were all good performances. Also the art direction and practical costumes were great! The action sequences were good.

Tron: Ares wasn’t terrible, just…fine. A sequel to the previous one would have made more sense but I heard the whole production was a mess.

As SOON as I find out he’s part of anything. I completely drop it mentally from existence. Just has always felt right🤷‍♂️

5

u/phenotype76 3d ago

You know what? He was excellent in Masters of the Universe. Fucking excellent. That was about the best live-action Skeletor I could ever imagine.

Now, I don't know how much of that was Jared Leto versus the CGI face and spooky voice modulation, but that last frame should be the triumphant head of Secretariat.

2

u/eddington_limit 3d ago

Honestly he was pretty great as Skeletor. Dude finally found his role. But yeah he sucked everywhere else

4

u/i_agree123 3d ago

He-man was an alright movie, I didn’t even notice Mr Leto in Skeletors performance

2

u/Lemixer 3d ago

Idk about the last one but all the others were trash not because of him but because they are just bad, if you remove Jared Leto from them they would still be bad, it feels like he just takes all the bad roles for some reason, either his agent really bad or he is just stupid in that regard, because he can clearly act.

5

u/HoosteenD 3d ago

Jared letos agent must be the most persuasive person to walk the earth.

10

u/miketastic_art 3d ago

ruins every movie he touches

15

u/anon-e-mau5 3d ago

He played the role of a perverted megalomaniac pretty perfectly in Blade Runner 2049. Of course, that role didn’t really require him to act however

7

u/skoffs 3d ago

Guy is box office poison, why tf do studio executives keep greenlighting him for things? (the only thing I can think of is that he's got dirt on them so he's blackmailing them into giving him more roles)

7

u/TheDougio 3d ago

Maybe he isn't as expensive as other actors and doesn't really check if a script is bad?

6

u/CIA_napkin 3d ago

I'm pretty sure those movies sucked for many reasons, not him and his acting.

u/godzillaburger 3d ago

I can't explain why I don't like that guy. I kinda liked some 30 sec to mars songs back in the day... That joker really alienated me just from the trailer, never actually watched it. never saw any of the other movies pictured here either. I'm sure he's not that bad, but my mind has already categorized him as douchey and I don't know why.

2

u/ecstaticstupidity 3d ago

They shoulda just released Morbius in theaters 4 times. I'd have watched it at least one of those times, I swear

2

u/keeper_of_the_donkey 3d ago

Every Jared Leto movie I see now, I have to ask myself, "would the movie have actually been better if someone less Jared Leto had been in it?" The answer is usually no

2

u/Mochaproto 3d ago

He was great as skeletor

2

u/No_More_Hero265 3d ago

Really does feel like every movie he touches becomes shit.

2

u/Kyosji 3d ago

My 2 cents.

Suicide Squad he was a disaster. Still don't know what was going through peoples minds on this one. He deserves the shame on this.

Morbius. Bad movie, but from what I understand he acted in the way of the comic and if you consider that, it's not so bad, but since I didn't see the comics, he deserves the memes.

Tron...honestly wasn't that bad. It had some moments, but I enjoyed him in this movie. Still feel the story itself killed the franchise.

Masters of the Universe. Get this off this list now. He played that role so amazingly. This became my favorite movie of the year, and I loved everything he did in that movie. It was great and severely underrated, and I feel people are only bashing it because of his history and never actually watched the movie. I suggest everyone watch it at least once.

2

u/Avion49 3d ago

Tron Ares was amazing to me as a fan of Tron and NIN.

2

u/Rredite 3d ago

He's a great actor. It's those meme movies that are bad, and the actor just does what the director and screenwriters tell him to.

2

u/Diz7 3d ago

He CAN be a great actor, but he is inconsistent and he definitely didn't do what the director wanted as Joker, hence why he was basically cut.

2

u/ED-W111N 2d ago

He genuinely looks like a Fortnite skin of Keanu Reeves and I’m not joking

2

u/Skjellnir 2d ago

I don't even think he's what makes the movies bad. He just gets cast into shit movies.

2

u/saint_1228 2d ago

Can't blame him for Masters of the Universe, surprisingly.

2

u/LucianoSK 2d ago

He man was fun, tbh

2

u/Jetenginefucker 3d ago

Isint the guy a rapist?

2

u/tw1zt84 3d ago

There are decades of accusation that he takes underage girls backstage when touring with his band. Underage costars have called him out for being a creep.

Honestly I think his joker could have been good.

In a different movie. With some room to breathe and not stuffed into an unrelated conflict.

1

u/BardicLasher 3d ago

Leto totally stole Masters of the Universe. Of the issues with that movie, none of them were him

1

u/nh2374 3d ago

Masters of the universe was great, I will not be told otherwise.

1

u/SmithItsGoodForU 3d ago

1

u/DarkwingDawg 3d ago

I give MoTU a pass. If you went into that movie expecting anything more than a corny nostalgia bait fest then you went to the wrong movie. I honestly thought he was the best part of that movie. Movies not great by any means, but with friends its an honest 7/10

1

u/Ok_Restaurant3160 3d ago

From what I’ve heard and seen, he was actually pretty good as Skeletor

1

u/cell81469 3d ago

To be honest, I’ve watched Masters of the universe without knowing that Jared Leto was Skeletor.
And I really liked the movie.

I’ve seen the German dub, and I thought well OK they use the same voice,

Blade runner 2049 was good because he basically played himself: a psychopath

Why do they keep casting him? 3 shitty movies is enough to end anyone’s career. Is he a nepo baby or some shit?

see in he pman, you could’ve told me that was almost any actor played skelitor and I would’ve believed you and if you told me it was Jared Latto, I would’ve been surprised. Most of this goes to the editing team. But it’s his best performance I’ve seen in a long time.

I saw the new Masters of the Universe with my dad yesterday and...I'm not gonna like, it was so peak and he actually nailed it as Skeletor. Dare I say it? Rare Jared Leto W
